House for 200k?

PeakyBlender · 07/02/2022 09:17

What can you buy for £200k near you?

Where we are it'll buy a one bed flat Sad

We can move anywhere in the UK, and it's got me thinking.

Is anywhere nice where it's possible to buy a house for that?

I am open to anything but ideally need 3 beds

Three bedroom house with a garden and probably a garage.

But I live in a bit great part of the Black Country (west miss).

You can buy a decent house in nice areas of the North East with that budget.
Eg.

0.4 miles away from the The Belvedere Academy, rated Outstanding.

@PeakyBlender

I would love to be near the sea but also like city life too!

We love Norfolk but think it's out of budget.

I've only been to Scotland once but it was beautiful there too.

You'll find something in East Norfolk for that budget but it will be a fixer upper probably, close to Great Yarmouth, which I think has been targetted for regeneration so now might be a good time to buy.

Rural east Suffolk. House prices went up during lockdowns, but you can get a doer upper for that. Plus I'm now hearing that people who bought to escape to the country & can no longer wfh are desperate to move back to the smoke now, so will reduce for a quick sale

It's beautiful here, coast nearby, loads of space, dryer & more sunshine. I love it (can you tell?)

trumpisagit · 07/02/2022 12:29

You could get a 3 bed in Somerset: Bridgwater or Taunton eg:

Flumo · 07/02/2022 12:32

We could get a decent size 3/4 bedroom here, just outside of Newcastle.

DockOTheBay · 07/02/2022 12:33

You wouldn't get much for that around here (Winchester). One bed flat maybe

Branleuse · 07/02/2022 12:36

Depends. Id say 200k would get you a 2 or 3 bed flat or a house that needs work. Im in the south east, but still get bargains here and there. Prices get lower 10 or 20 miles away but we are a commuter town with good links to london so that pushes it up a bit

Celestiel · 07/02/2022 12:40

North Dorset/Somerset ex HA - we have a much bigger house than we would have got on any of the new build estates around us.

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 07/02/2022 12:42

Near us in Llangollen which is a lovely town you can get a three bed period property, only has a small courtyard garden however. Or you can get a 4 bed that needs work.

PrincessPaws · 07/02/2022 12:43

A quick look on rightmove tells me that round here you'd get a studio or a one bed flat if you were prepared to go to a dodgier part of town without parking

Fifthtimelucky · 07/02/2022 12:43

You could buy a three bedroomed house for under £200,000 in Hastings.

Admittedly the town isn't everyone's cup of tea. There are some run down areas but some of it is lovely and obviously you have the sea.

SkegnessShogun · 07/02/2022 12:45

3 bed semi, Lincolnshire, within minutes of the beach
But according to a recent thread on here it's hell on Earth, so don't bother.

My sister lives close to this one, £186,500

Calennig · 07/02/2022 12:47

House price calculator: Where can I afford to rent or buy?

My suggestions would be pockets in the midlands - west midlands mainly or Wales.

If you have to factor in decent secondary schools it will be harder but like anywhere it's do your research some areas are cheaper for a reason others are fine.

Norfolk isn’t out of your budget

My lovely 3 bed 1930's semi is about to go up for 175k in Wigan. Nice area (it is a main road, but a b road, just been declassified and a link road built to reduce traffic on my road). I'd happily live out the rest of my days here as I like that it is close to the m6, supermarket (big sainsburys) and shops around the corner. The gp is on the road (you can always get through on the phone, and always get a same day appt), and the primary school. The outstanding secondary is just on the estate off the road, and I'm in catchment for it.
All in all, I'm happy!

Same.

Maybe just over 200k for the ones with garages here. But generally around 190-200k for a nice 3 bed semi with a garden send parking.

yma123 · 07/02/2022 12:57

I bought my house last year for just under 180k, nice area, 3 bed, detached with a garage, garden and driveway, Carmarthenshire area.

CounsellorTroi · 07/02/2022 13:00

South Glamorgan, two or three bedroom terraced house in a not particularly nice area or a pretty nice flat.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/02/2022 13:05

I'm in Nottingham, you can get a 3 bedroom easy for that in most areas here, possibly not the more desirable villages. My 2 bed in one of the worse areas was £100k.
