House for 200k?

PeakyBlender · 07/02/2022 09:17

What can you buy for £200k near you?

Where we are it'll buy a one bed flat Sad

We can move anywhere in the UK, and it's got me thinking.

Is anywhere nice where it's possible to buy a house for that?

I am open to anything but ideally need 3 beds

It would get you this 3 bed in a decent part of North Manchester

Lolamento · 07/02/2022 09:55

@Ozanj

I live in a part of the country where you can’t get anything within 50 miles for under 200K.
Which part?

Neighbours bought their 4 bed detached for £199K four years ago. Perthshire village.

Just had a quick look on zoopla. I'm in Worcestershire...
Newish build (a few years old) 3 bed semi detached. Not very nice area.
Or 2 new build semi in nicer area.
Or 3 bed older style terrace
All £200k Or less.

3 bed in Whitley bay

I was visiting a friend, and spotted this one, which is 'offers over 200' . If you don't mind shared garden but like character, I think it's lovely. You have off road parking/car port.

It's a lovely rural village, with shop/PO & school, great pub and just 20 mins or so from Hereford, and has buses.

House prices are crazy!

Have a look at wages.

On my street - ex council houses - there's a house sold for 300k last year. The last mid terrace has sold for 175k.

The dearer the houses are the more the rents end up being. No one wins.

Everyone gets upset about food and energy going up, but house price rises are seen as a positive.

Carlisle Cumbria

You can definitely get a 3 bed house with garden here. That’s what my mum has. It’s smallish but perfectly functional.

Small town in West Yorkshire with good schools (including 2 state grammars), transport links to Leeds and Manchester.

Calmdown14 · 07/02/2022 10:52

North East Scotland, plenty www.aspc.co.uk/search/property/405102/Craiglea--16-Garvock-Street/Laurencekirk/

3 bed detached in Stoke On Trent. Mine was less than that a year ago.

PurBal · 07/02/2022 11:09

Within three miles of my location you can get a one bed flat or 50% share in a 3 bed terrace. (Or a 1 or 2 bed retirement or holiday property).

PeakyBlender · 07/02/2022 11:14

Wow loads of areas to look at. Thanks.

You can get a nicely done up two bed in a reasonable part of town for £180k here, going up to £200k ish. Or mediocrely done out 3 bed in a still acceptable (not sure about schools) part of town for £200k.

Ipswich, town centre isn't great but the waterfront is nice and it's 20 minutes from the sea.

peedawg · 07/02/2022 11:21

a parking space

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/02/2022 11:28

Leicester/Leicestershire and you can get a lot for £200k, lots of 3 bed semis with decent garden for that price range.

Pedallleur · 07/02/2022 11:36

Go to Burnley or Nelson area you can get something for £100k or less but you'll need to spend money. Go a mile across the valley to Fence or Higham and 200k wont get you anywhere.

CatherineMaitland · 07/02/2022 11:37

You can just about do a 3-bed terraced with garden in my village for that (15 minutes east of Bridgwater.) A few 2-bed cottages/houses around too.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/02/2022 11:42

Just looked and there are a few 2 bed cottages in my area of Wiltshire in your budget Approx 1 hour to Dorset Coast

rhowton · 07/02/2022 11:42

You can get planning permission to build a 3 bed house.... or a 1 bed house for £185k. Depressing.

Returnoftheowl · 07/02/2022 11:43

I sold my 3 bed house in Norwich for £182k last January, so don't rule Norfolk our entirely.

ThatDreamSheep · 07/02/2022 11:44

We are just in the process of selling ours, a 3 bed semi for £200k. It's an 80% shared ownership, but don't pay rent on the other 20% so in effect they are just affordable houses. In South West.
