I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read [[https://www.gofugyourself.com/ah-yes-31-years-ago-julia-and-kiefer-were-our-bennifer-02-2022 this piece about it]]. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media! I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter! What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

Peter Stringfellow dating a 16 year old when he was about 58. He always was a bit sleazy though. My mum was mates with him but was never interested in his bullshit.

I think it was Woody Harrelson who said, when they were filming 'The people versus Larry Flint' that her skin was literally grey. Part of her contract was that she had to undergo regular drug testing during filming.

Who remembers "the Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss? I think she was from a wealthy background but apparently prostitution paid better. There was a lot of talk about who her celeb clients might be but the only one named was, perhaps inevitably, Charlie Sheen. Who was also accused of raping one of the 80s Coreys (by the other Corey). But he denied that.

Victoria Sellers was the daughter of Peter S and Britt Ekland. She was involved with Heidi Fleiss and Ivan Nagy in someway. Very shady.

According to Instagram, she's reinvented herself as a "vegan superwoman"!

Peter Sellers was a very strange man so I wonder what her childhood was like? His other children have said that he basically abandoned them.

Ron Davies the Secretary of State for Wales had to resign after being blackmailed by a man claiming he was cottaging on Clapham Common. He claimed he was looking for badgers! This was in 1998 and I wonder if he’d have to resign today…probably. Looking back on it I feel a bit sorry for him as he was married and clearly closeted.

She was on Celebrity Rehab and came across as quite a sad, lonely person. She dropped out the public eye and lives alone with a load of birds. Came across as one of those people who likes animals because she can’t relate to people.

I wonder how much overlap there is between her client list and the Epstein files?

Peter Sellers was vile to his 3 children and left his millions to his latest girl-wife, Lynn Frederick. Who drank and drugged it all before she died at quite a young age. She didn't give his children a penny. Victoria had a challenging childhood, more so than the 2 older children with his first wife. He was a horrible person.

This isn't a scandal but when Ellen DeGeneres came out in her sitcom and in real life it was a massive thing. I remember channel 4 dedicating a whole evening to her and loads of parties.

I feel sorry for Milli Vanilli. They were penniless and looking for singing work, very young and it wasn't, if you Google.,really explained to them that a lot of the stuff had already been recorded by session musicians and they were just eye candy. They wanted to sing but after a quick try out in the studio it was decided to go with the original recordings. Then they started having hits quickly, got nominated for a Grammy and had to go along with the juggernaut. They never wanted to con anybody, they wanted to sing. One went off the rails and died young.

They weren’t penis-less though.

Their cycling shorts caused quite a hoo-haa too

Also, I don't believe Milli Vanilli were the only people in the music biz at that time using other peoples voices. Stock Aitken and Waterman must have done a bit of that too, over the years.

It was pretty normal for dance acts. That's why loads of them ended up with lawsuits lol.

I guess it depends on how it was done. Eg Milli Vanilli were presented as the vocalists (it's not clear how strongly they themselves claimed to be though), likewise Katrin from Black Box (who like Milli Vanilli actually wanted to build a singing career and was frustrated that it didn't happen). But then there were other acts like technotronic where it was more obvious they were just using an image of a person dancing and miming - although Ya Kid K was billed as vocalist on the 2nd single I think, similar to how Mark Ronson does with his vocalists now as a pp pointed out.
