Celeb scandals of the 90s

I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

Stan Collymore publicly kicking the shit out of Ulrika Johnson in a pub in Paris during the 1988 World Cup. I don't remember any backlash or consequences for him.

Shortly after her 16th birthday, she had her first topless shoot in Bolton with photographer Anthony Farnworth. While still 15, Cherry appeared in the Daily Sport, wearing a bikini and posing suggestively with a milkshake, in a countdown to her 16th birthday, when readers would be able to see her topless. She made her topless debut in the Daily Sport tabloid newspaper on 10 August 2003, two months after turning 16.

I was also one of those people that hung around TT back in the 90s. Andi was Gary’s constant companion.

I also remember very well the rumours about Lulu and the fact Jason was seeing Jenny Powell at the time. We saw her speed off one day from Jason’s flat on the quays absolutely crying her eyes out. Never saw her there again.

He also dated Kathy Lloyd for a bit.

I also remember when Gary started going out with Dawn and all the fans knew about but he wouldn’t admit it. Let’s just say there was some ‘crossover’ (I think he later admitted it all in the book)

Because of me hanging around outside TV studios and hotels I got to meet and spend a bit of time with lots of celebs who were really quite, erm, liberal with who they invited along to parties and nightclubs. I have a million stories about all the z-list boy bands but let’s just say the majority of the people mentioned on this thread were gacked up to the eyeballs for much of the 90s.

@Thisisit2022 you’re right, that’s mad how a couple of us thought the same. I thought the countdown was for SF but it wasn’t, although she did appear topless age 16, which is probably where the mix up was. It seems so alien now.

And who sang “Return of the Mac” - I’m sure he ended up going down for something?

I think Angie and BB were the early 2000s. But what I remember about that was that at the time, BB was living with Laura Dern, and she said she came home one weekend from work to find he'd moved out and married Angie.

That guy is really a complete wanker.

There was the Gwyneth & Ben and Matt & Winona show in the late 90s. G&W were sharing a house and dating B&M. They were all very lovey-dovey and appearing in public together until Gwyneth apparently pinched a script that arrived for Winona. It was for Shakespeare in Love and she auditioned, got the role, won the Oscar and Winona never spoke to her again! Allegedly...

(Matt and Ben's bromance is still going strong.)

I can't quite picture Winona in that film. Do you remember her in Dracula with Gary Oldman, her accent was awful.

Arnold Schwarzenegger had a child with his housekeeper in the 90s, it came out a number of years later. Marlon Brando had kids with his housekeeper in the 90s too although I think he had what was essentially a sort of harem at that point plus a huge number of kids living with him on a private island.

Sadly she wasn't the first. There was a countdown for another soon-to-be 16 year old in 1994, Linsey Dawn MacKenzie.

Mark Morrison's Wikipedia entry is quite the ride. He was sent to Wormwood Scrubs for paying a lookalike to do his community service while he went on tour!

I just read the Wiki entry on Cherry Dee too. I just assumed this sort of thing happened in the 1980s but no, it was less than 20 years ago Shock
