Celeb scandals of the 90s

I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

Timothy Lawrence was her affair. He was a equerry - daddy was not happy and hit the roof and Anne just said she was in love and marrying him and mark and her were getting divorced - daddy not happy!

Princess Anne's been married to Tim for longer than she was married to Mark - must be closing on 30 years?

Though there's rumours that they're unofficially separated too, and she's been shacked up with Andrew Parker Bowles for years! He does get around...

No @CruCru, he's alive and kicking! He remarried after Camilla but she sadly died some years ago.

Apparently he's the inspiration for Jilly Cooper's Rupert Campbell-Black!

@Tillymintpolo sadly yes! The Sun newspaper counting down the days until Sam Fox’s 16th birthday so that she could reveal all on page 3! It’s fucking sick really isn’t it but no one batted an eyelid back in the 80’s!

How did Hugh manage to come back from that to almost national treasure status? I remember him and Liz Hurley appearing at a premiere shortly afterwards and she looked so tense and hurt.
Because people should pay the punishment for their crime and then life should move on.

Oh I don't disagree @masterblaster but there are plenty who didn't manage to revive their careers to the extent that Hugh has.

In all the Tampax Charlie talk I forgot about Diana's incriminating phone call - with a guy (a James but not Hewitt?) who called her "Squidgy"!

Anne shagged the equerry in front of her husband and Prince Philip? What on earth goes on at those Sandringham Christmas parties??

I thought it WAS Hewitt who she had the Squidgy phone call with.

This isn't really a scandal but I had tickets to a take that tour, and the papers had pics of the costumes they had for Relight My Fire and one of them had chaps with his bum cheeks out. My mum was absolutely appalled that that was what we were going to see!! 🤣

I know @whynotwhatknot, she was absolutely distraught by the death of their son, Sebastian, I believe he was called. As any parent would be. I was horrified that he could be so callous. Even if it were true, what kind of person would do that to his wife and mother of his other children? Utterly despicable, I can't express enough contempt for him and I'm glad that he fell for a young woman, 30 years younger, I think, who 'took him for every penny' as he described it. That she was also awarded their pet dog seemed perfectly just to me.
