Celeb scandals of the 90s

I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

I was always fascinated by Mandy Smith story with Bill. I’m originally from East Europe and this was in the papers here in the 80s. I remember listening to her songs which were strangely played in there- song called: I just can’t wait. I just bought the biography book, always wanted to read it and it was always sold out. Also thought we were behind the Iron curtain we heard all about Hugh Grant blow job, Brad and Gvyn, Freddy, Take That and Robbie, Royal family like Charles/ Diana ( I remember me buying a book about her in the 1992 in the bookshop I worked.

In fact everyone looks so young in that clip, apart from notorious shoplifter Richard Madeley who looks almost exactly as he does now!

Didn't Les Dennis then do Celebrity Big Brother and one of the tabloid rags had a headline "We'll keep an eye on her for you Les!", so they spent his entire time in the CBB house following Amanda into Tesco and reporting on her every move in case she was cheating again.

Terry Cristian getting slapped on live tv on the word! And on the last episode, chaos, drunken presenters shouting see you at the dole office as the credits started

John Leslie's rape trial only collapsing because the witness died suddenly.

Liam Gallagher getting multiple women pregnant very quickly.

Mel Blatt from All Saints being an unmarried mother was very much frowned upon- at the same time Kerry Latona was made to leave Atomic Kitten for getting pregnant before she married Brian McFadden, who then cheated on her at his stag party.

The countdown to Charlotte church turning 16 was disgusting.

Matthew Wright outing John Leslie as the (unnamed man) Who raped Ulrika in her book. Catherine Zeta Jones defending him!

Brian Harvey being sacked from east 17 for saying on radio he took 12 E's.

Not a scandal but on the back of the Neil Morrissey story I had completely forgotten he used to go out with Rachel Weisz.

Apparently she dumped him because she didn't like all the attention he got. Then went on to marry James Bond!

There was the Gwyneth & Ben and Matt & Winona show in the late 90s. G&W were sharing a house and dating B&M. They were all very lovey-dovey and appearing in public together until Gwyneth apparently pinched a script that arrived for Winona. It was for Shakespeare in Love and she auditioned, got the role, won the Oscar and Winona never spoke to her again! Allegedly...
