Celeb scandals of the 90s

I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

Rebecca Loos is absolutely lovely . She was treated horrendously by the press - much like Monica / when David / Bill were the ones at fault. We failed women BIG time in the 90s.
She was fucking a married man. That's not what I'd called absolutely lovely.

The supermodels were always in the papers.

Naomi dating Mike Tyson.
Helena Christiansen dating Michael Hutchence.
Lots of Kate Moss.

And then that weirdness of Cindy Crawford marrying and then quite quickly divorcing Richard Gere, and the dreadful film they appeared in together.

Did anyone watch Eurotrash? That was my staple Friday night viewing. Lolo Ferrari with her ginormous tits. She supposedly died from an overdose although her husband was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Also gutted when River Phoenix died, especially because it turned out he wasn't this clean living guy he portrayed and had actually been taking drugs for years.

You're thinking of 'Fair Game' with one of the Baldwins. She never appeared with Gere.

Yes, I remember River Phoenix pioneered the environmentally-conscious/pro-animal rights/clean living young actor thing so his death was a massive shock.

But he actually had a very strange upbringing as his parents were in a cult.

Regarding the Brian Harvey/baked potato incident, there were some indications it was attempted suicide as he'd attempted it before and suffers with severe depression.

Was that when he ran himself over with the car he was driving? Confused

Married famous men being caught out then holding a press conference with their family seemed to happen quite often in the 90’s so openly humiliating their wife again

I always hoped one of the wives would stop mid press conference and say actually my husband can fuck off he is a waste of space and I shall take him for everything

I also remember the first AMAs I watched in 1990, with Guns and Roses winning awards, and Slash and Duff rocking up totally wasted and dropping several Fucks on live tv. Such a great band 😁

No, Richard, this is a step too far, that coke had fried your brain. Phew. A different Richard Bacon MP. Brain fry still applies to this one though, no matter what the cause.
