Are vaginal piercings illegal here?

I know there was a change in the law in 2015 that classified women who have vaginal piercings to be victims of FGM (even if the piercings were consented to). I've been googling but I can't seem to find a straight answer as to whether it was changed back to allow women to get piercings or not Confused Some sites say yes, some say no!

In licensed or registered Piercing establishments, piercings below the navel are forbidden. Check with your local council's licensing department.

DropYourSword · 25/01/2022 14:55

That seems ridiculously excessive!

izbelle · 25/01/2022 14:59

Not illegal as far as I know. Had 3 done in UK in the last year... I think there has been some clarification given on the law more recently, but for a lot of places it's easier not to do them to avoid the uncertainty. Have a look online at "Holier than thou", I'm sure they're still doing them (in Manchester, don't know if that's any good for you)

PearPickingPorky · 25/01/2022 15:00

How the fuck can you pierce a vagina?

Like, through the walls? Or does the stud sit in the canal? Surely that will just cause tearing during sex?

Kanaloa · 25/01/2022 15:02

Surely not? Some piercing shops offer it, and also penis piercings, they wouldn’t be allowed if it was illegal would they?

Just had a look and it seems it’s a bit of a not sure area at the moment. Would anybody ever know? I mean if you’ve consented and a piercer has consented how would you prosecute that?

SilverHairedCat · 25/01/2022 15:02

Just checked, and I note from reading just now that police should be informed if any medical practitioner sees such a piercing - well, I've had my bits pierced for over a decade and never had any comments on it from medical personnel.

dementedpixie · 25/01/2022 15:02

I assume they mean vulva/labia piercing rather than vaginal

SilverHairedCat · 25/01/2022 15:03

Well, clearly it's about labia, clitoral hoods etc - not vaginal Hmm

girlmom21 · 25/01/2022 15:05

Our local piercer still offer genital piercings - I just checked

you obviously know what OP meant 🙄
fairylightsandwaxmelts · 25/01/2022 15:09

If it's illegal, why do so many places advertise it and do it?

SilverHairedCat · 25/01/2022 15:15

@fairylightsandwaxmelts looks like legislation was poorly drafted, leaving significant ambiguities.

drpet49 · 25/01/2022 15:17

Grim. Why would anyone want this done.

HangingOver · 25/01/2022 15:18

Came expecting vulva police....was not disappointed Grin

ENoeuf · 25/01/2022 15:18

Cps guidance changed in 2015 according to google to make it clear that piercings and surgery wouldn’t normally be considered FGM.

Me neither, no comments from medical personnel or ever been questioned by the police haha - got mine done in 2016 so if you want it done OP I wouldn't worry
Cas112 · 25/01/2022 15:21

@drpet49

Grim. Why would anyone want this done.
That's subjective.
RichardMarxisinnocent · 25/01/2022 15:21

I didn't know what the OP meant. I've heard of clitoral piercings, but am not very knowledgeable about things like that, so just assumed vaginal piercing was something that exists which I've never heard of.

PattyPan · 25/01/2022 15:21

I too was very confused about what was being pierced and assumed it was something different to clitoral etc piercings and that I was just ignorant of the array of piercings available. Probably best to be specific at the piercing studio 😬

HailAdrian · 25/01/2022 15:21

@drpet49

Grim. Why would anyone want this done.
Because it can increase sexual pleasure and some people like the look of it....
SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 25/01/2022 15:21

@drpet49

Grim. Why would anyone want this done.
Cos it looks nice and for some improves sex
HailAdrian · 25/01/2022 15:22

And you can still get it done because I looked into it pre lockdown.

I imagine vulval rather than inside the vagina (though I don't know); I see others have said the same.

Why on earth would anyone want that? It sounds horrific to me and would hardly add to beauty or sexual pleasure.

PattyPan · 25/01/2022 15:24

Cos it looks nice

But when do you ever see it? Confused

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 25/01/2022 15:26

@PattyPan

Cos it looks nice

But when do you ever see it? Confused

Whenever I'm naked. So in the bath, about to have sex, getting changed etc.

DH sees it closer than I do of course but that's only cos I can't quite bend that far ...
