Are vaginal piercings illegal here?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 25/01/2022 14:28

I know there was a change in the law in 2015 that classified women who have vaginal piercings to be victims of FGM (even if the piercings were consented to). I've been googling but I can't seem to find a straight answer as to whether it was changed back to allow women to get piercings or not Confused Some sites say yes, some say no!

@drpet49

Grim. Why would anyone want this done.
Piercings can be addictive. You don't have to understand why anyone else would willingly do this to their body to simply accept that some women do want to.

Whenever I'm naked. So in the bath, about to have sex, getting changed etc.

Do you? Like if it’s your clitoris that’s pierced or the labia to you see it when you’re getting changed?

Regardless it sounds like they are allowed and even if not they’re hardly going to prosecute you for getting a piercing, if anyone even found out about it.

PearPickingPorky · 25/01/2022 15:35

@PattyPan

Cos it looks nice

But when do you ever see it? Confused

I guess a partner could see it while giving you oral sex, but then I wouldn't want to have my tongue all round a genital piecing, as I imagine they are similar to ear piercings and I certainly wouldn't want to have my tongue around one of those for any length of time

Yeah I can...I'm not going to describe my vulva online as Christ knows who's reading but I can see the piercing.
PattyPan · 25/01/2022 15:37

Clearly I am getting changed wrong Confused

Midwife apologetically sent me an FGM leaflet after she saw my VCH piercing in labour in 2018.

I had it done (many years ago) because I liked the way it looked, and the way it felt during sex, but as it happens I took it out during that labour and haven't felt hugely moved to get it redone since.

TheCanyon · 25/01/2022 15:47

My midwife removed mine without consent during labour in 2014, didn't realise until she handed me it in a specimen bottle several hours later. Had it in for over 10 years and had given birth twice before with no issue.

Came expecting vulva police....was not disappointed Grin
Haha, me too.

Radiohead could do a song to raise awareness!

JollyAndBright · 25/01/2022 15:49

Technically they are neither legal or illegal, it’s a bit of a grey area.
It’s not something that is even being considered to be prosecutable issue though, or so I believe.

And for those confused there are a lot of female genital piercings,
The most common being the vertical clitoral hood.

But others include,
horizontal clitoral hood,
mons pubis,
Horizontal outer labia,
Vertical outer labia,
Horizontal or vertical inner labia,
External vaginal piercing (usually to the bottom done through the area where the inner labia meet and through into the entrance to the vagina)
Clitoral piercing,
Internal vaginal piercing. (Basically done into the wall of the vagina)

The two are uncommon and what I would consider to be specialist and ‘extreme’ piercings.

You know more than one type of vulva exists right?
Oopsydaisynotagain · 25/01/2022 15:53

It’s illegal for under 18s. It’s classed as FGM.

Regularsizedrudy · 25/01/2022 15:53

Jeez some of these replies. If you don’t like it you don’t have to get one, you don’t have to “boak” at other peoples choice. So much for the sisterhood eh

No I thought I had the only one.

Or more realistically I’m aware more than one type exists but was wondering if it was usual to be able to see your clitoris piercing when getting changed.

Kanaloa · 25/01/2022 16:05

@Oopsydaisynotagain

Other than FGM I think there are pretty obvious reasons a piercer wouldn’t want to handle the genitals of an under 18.
SilverHairedCat · 25/01/2022 16:09

I can highly recommend a VCH piercing for anyone with a clitoris looking to improve their orgasms. Especially if they struggle to have them.

Forrandomposts · 25/01/2022 16:18

Unless your vulva sticks forwards at a right-angle to your body, you're not seeing a piercing without putting your head between your legs

I presume all the close minded people on this thread wont want to listen to this but yes this had a big impact on my orgasms Smile
CovidCorvid · 25/01/2022 16:22

Definitely not illegal to have it done. Why do people have it done? For me it improves orgasm.

When the guidelines came in in 2015 it was classified as the lowest type of fgm. Our safeguarding lead (I’m a midwife) said anyone over 18 with piercings had to be reported to her as they had to be included in stats to send to the govt. anyone under 18 the police had to be informed. Which is why I don’t trust the Govt stats on fgm as I suspect a large percentage are consensual piercings.

In 2015 I came onto shift on the labour ward once to find another midwife had misinterpreted the new law and called the police on an adult woman with a piercing. The police a arrived as well!

I think it’s changed now to not include piercings.

Is there a danger it can go wrong? Do you orgasm very quickly? I'm probably on the wrong thread for this! 🤣 I like the idea of it

Okay, small labia, flat stomach, deep piercing so it sticks out. Yes lean forward when getting changed, I don't know how else to take my knickers off without leaning forward. If I look at at my crotch I can see my piercing.

Happy or do you need a diagram?

SilverHairedCat · 25/01/2022 16:28

@Sleepyquest essentially it's a piercing through the skin above the clitoris. It's shallow, heals really fast (mine took only a few days!) and the jewellery sits just above the clitoris so gentle pressure is all it needs really.

And given there's a bloody ring through it, you'd think men would be better able to find it 🙄🤣

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 25/01/2022 16:30

Oh wow I didn't realise starting a thread like this could cause so much hilarity 😂😂😂 I'm laughing my head off at some of these replies 🤣🤣🤣
