Strangest thing you have found embarrassing

I was waiting for a friend with a bunch of flowers for her. I found this so embarrassing for some reason! Something about standing on a street with a bunch of flowers. I also find having a baby bump cringe!

@currering

Ordering food in a busy queue makes me embarrassed.

Years ago in New York on honeymoon and always dreamt of going in one of those delis and getting an amazing sandwich.
Walked in, queue huge, so fast moving, everyone shouting behind the counter "whaddya want??" There was waaaay too much choice and I walked out with a boring cheese salad sub as I was too scared to delay the queue Blush

Yes!! Having to shout out my fussy coffee order in a noisy cafe where the barista is standing really far away. I have a really quiet voice and find it excruciating.
Myhamstergonerogue · 25/01/2022 14:08

The thing that happened to me just now!!! Had appointment at new hairdressers at 12.30. Got there 12.25 told to sit down. 1 hour later was still sat there 😲 spent ages trying to get the courage to leave and when I did I ended up apologising for leaving even though they left me there for 1 hour without a “sorry I’m running late” or “ do you want a drink”

So so embarrassing….

RobertSmithsLipstick · 25/01/2022 14:34

Sitting on a bus seat that's still warm from the person before.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 25/01/2022 14:49

@rocksonrocks

I loathe filling my car with fuel
So do I but not because I find it embarrassing, it's just an irritating chore.

Agree with meeting someone in a supermarket and then meeting them again after you've said bye.

Also hate going out when neighbours are in their front gardens.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 25/01/2022 14:51

I also find a lot of "comedies" excruciatingly embarassing.

TambourineTimesThree · 25/01/2022 16:04

I've never felt more reassured by a thread in my life. Can relate to almost everything mentioned, but I have improved over the years and forced myself to get over the anxiousness.

Two things that have helped with the dreaded hair washing process at the hairdressers:

  1. Book a dry cut. You don't have to get your hair washed. You can wash it when suits you the day before, or the day of. I only found this out a couple of years ago and it's changed my life. Cheaper too.
  1. If you are getting a wash, tell them as you walk towards the basin that you don't enjoy getting your hair washed very much or that you have a headache or could they just do the bare minimum because you have sinusitis... whatever excuse you can think of to ask for a quick wash.

Yes, very embarrassing to say something, but far far better than the horrific experience of having your head scrubbed for 10 mins. I hate it so much. Especially if they have long/fake nails and it actually bloody hurts.

autumnlights · 25/01/2022 16:20

I can't deal with any kind of fancy dress. Also, any kind of Harry Potter merchandise makes me cringe, I don't know why.

SkiingIsHeaven · 25/01/2022 16:30

@RobertSmithsLipstick

Sitting on a bus seat that's still warm from the person before.
That's not embarrassing it is totally gross and should be banned.
sofakingcool · 25/01/2022 16:50

Self cooling seats @SkiingIsHeaven ? Grin

Somethingsnappy · 25/01/2022 16:58

@StorminaBcup

It makes me cringe when I can only see the top half of people’s faces (for example if the bottom half their face is obscured by a filing cabinet). I have no idea why Grin
Oh no, the mask situation must be awful for you!
Lizzy1980 · 25/01/2022 17:03

@ApocalypseNowt

Waiting for change after I've paid for something with cash.

There's an inverse relationship where the smaller the amount of change I'm waiting for, the stronger the embarrassment.

1p in change = hard cringe

OMG this 🤣 Having to wait for a penny is excruciating isn’t it
nansbigpants · 25/01/2022 17:05

Any form of audience participation- even just clapping along or a round of applause at the end.

Logically, I know that a) no-one is looking at me b) no-one will care if I am slightly out of time or get the action wrong etc and c) it's supposed to be fun. But in that moment I am convinced that either a) I will go for it a bit too much and look weird; or b) I won't look like I'm enjoying it and so will look weird; or c) I'll have misunderstood and the audience is not supposed to join in so I'll be making a noise etc on my own- and that d) everyone will stare at me and the incident will become legendary (and not in a good way). None of these things has ever actually happened to me. Every year I take a group of local children to the pantomime and whilst the other helpers are all getting on the spirit of things I feel like I'm about to sit an exam.

Somethingsnappy · 25/01/2022 17:09

@Veryverycalmnow

Oh and that Christmas song that goes ropopompom
Yes!!!
Lizzy1980 · 25/01/2022 17:11

Going to meet someone I know well when I’m wearing something new. Wouldn’t bother me if it was just an acquaintance but if it’s someone I’m close to they would realise that they hadn’t seen the new garment before and therefore know that I’m in something new. I just dread them saying ‘oh I like that, is it new?’ and it’s especially embarrassing if they say it in front of anyone else. It’s excruciating! Please someone else say you feel this way too???

Somethingsnappy · 25/01/2022 17:15

When I'm in a very big group of people, all moving slowly forward and so forced to SHUFFLE.... Urgghh Blush

At least the pandemic has put paid to that. Silver linings...

pinkpillower · 25/01/2022 17:20

Watching bands or any live music when standing up (like a festival) I have no idea where to put my hands and I feel stupid pretending to dance

Idkillforadoughnut · 25/01/2022 17:26

The postcode lottery adverts. When they hold signs and dance! I can barely even type itConfused

HeronLanyon · 25/01/2022 17:31

Pink - me too partic if you’re wearing something. With no pockets (they kind of help you at the outset !).

Ahhhhhbisto · 25/01/2022 17:36

I find lifts embarrassing Blush
Who pushes the button for your floor, you or the person closest to the buttons?
Or when the lift arrives and the doors open to a space crammed full of people. Others start doing some strange, half hearted shuffle as if that will miraculously make more space.

sofakingcool · 25/01/2022 17:41

When I was younger i used to be unable to watch the prom scene from Back to the Future where he's playing the guitar frantically on the stage and everyone is staring BlushGrin

It made me feel so embarrassed for him!

TigerKat · 25/01/2022 17:58

I’ve just thought of another thing that makes me feel embarrassed- gardening in the front garden and people walking past.. I always imagine they’ll think I’m doing it all wrong 😅😬

Harls1969 · 25/01/2022 18:02

Meeting someone in a busy public place. That embarrassing moment where you look around desperately trying to see them and feeling like a knob.
The little awkward dance when you're trying to move out of someone's way and they move the same way; and this happens several times.
Walking in or out of a public building and not being sure if the door is push or pull.
Audience participation.
People dressed up as characters (Disneyland would be hell for me).

Alcemeg · 25/01/2022 18:03

@iklboo

When someone lets you across the road and you do that really weird skip / trot / walk instead of just crossing normally Blush.
I think that's the least we can do 😂
Ahardyfool · 25/01/2022 18:04

When at the pantomime or whatever and the cast look you in the eye while doing the snail et dancing stuff.
I’ve actually been a member of the chorus at a fairly large AmDram society so I should find it less cringey. But no.

Ahardyfool · 25/01/2022 18:05

Was supposed to say smiley dancing stuff.
