Let me start by saying this is 100% lighthearted and fueled by being a bit bored in my last hour before weekend officially begins.

Anyway, I ventured onto the Royals board recently and found it a bit weird that people refer to Kate Middleton as Catherine. Now, I know that's her full first name (well I assume it is) but I've never heard anyone IRL refer to her as anything but Kate. Maybe I'm behind the times as my Royals knowledge isn't very up to date (as you'll notice by calling Kate Middleton.)

I'm sure I'll regret starting this but anyone else have anything?

It's the though of

Thought.

Did anyone mention an edit function would be good?

seekinglondonlife · 16/01/2022 09:32

Your straight 9 scoring child at GCSE is bright but not particularly intelligent. Every parent seems to be on The Student Room and has more knowledge about degrees/universities than the careers teachers. Most of MN children study medicine, or a STEM subject at Oxbridge. Despite this they are just 'average' children. There's never, ever antisocial behaviour in council/SH estates, they are inhabited by tertiary sector workers and are much safer than the adjacent multi million pound private housing.
Oh yes and most people earn £100k+, mostly without a degree too.

@PhilCornwall1

but everyone seems to hate ensuite bathrooms! It's just a bathroom...but slightly more convenient if you need a wee in the night!

I've got to say, I don't like them and to be honest, it's for a crazy reason.

It's the though of essentially having a bog in your bedroom, admittedly separated by a door. Just seems weird to me. I told you it was an odd reason.

But what about hotel rooms, or do you ask for one without a bathroom Grin

@Exhausteddog Haha yes! And on the subject of toilets, people's MNers not allowing tradespeople to use their loo.

Or not allowing tradesmen into their house without their husband being present, because clearly the plumber is going to pounce on them.

Also, everyone's child is "gifted" and "very advanced". And no one's husband ever watches porn, and if they do it's grounds for divorce.

Lots of posters are "very senior" at work, yet seem to post on MN all day.

PhilCornwall1 · 16/01/2022 09:56

Yeah I know and this is what's crazy. Pre pandemic, I travelled extensively for work and stayed in hotels often.

I told you my dislike of en-suites was weird.

It's not weird for MN that is literally everyone's reason!!
Bathroom next to bedroom separated by a wall if door is on the landing is ok?
Bathroom next to bedroom separated by a wall if door is to the bedroom makes it all types of awful? Confused
Although I agree "open plan" ensuites are definitely horrid.

LondonQueen · 16/01/2022 10:53

@LadyWithLapdog
Maybe you need to educate yourself on the stance of these different parties, because it's a real risk to the safety of us, our daughters, sisters and mothers.

LadyWithLapdog · 16/01/2022 11:03

@LondonQueen I think the actual evil and harm done to the entire population by the Tories is far greater than the imaginary whipped up fear from other parties. We know what this is about and you're being ridiculous.

But in the spirit of openness I will read links to reputable sources about actual proposed policies adversely affecting women that you think other parties have in store.

Oooh yes - Christmas!

Even though I have the Christmas board hidden it is impossible to avoid all the posts about snuggling and magic and pajamas, yet the post-Christmas posts are almost exclusively about fights, disappointment and misery.

@Greygreenblue

I think some of mine are cultural and locational. I spent months when I started reading this site wondering why everyone kept worrying about people having babies with men out of wedlock. Like it’s 1950. And I have lived in Uk and know that’s can’t be what it is so just couldn’t work it out. Then discovered it’s because there is no protection for anyone in de facto relationships/common law marriages there. To be honest I still don’t get it. Like, you’ve lived with a man for 10 years and stayed home to raise his babies but you don’t have any rights if he decides to kick you out of the family home because of a lack of a piece of paper? Why are people ok with this? It doesn’t have to be that way.

Also the strong presence of trans exclusionary radical feminists. Who also object to being called that. Even though that is their ideology. I wouldn’t even know it was a thing if JK Rowling didn’t exist. Seriously never spoken to one (that I know of) in real life.

Do you believe male-bodied people should be in women's safe spaces?

Do you believe a female rape victim should have a male person next to her in a rape survivor's meeting, grinning at her recounting her experiences?

Maybe the reason you've never known they exist, is because you've had the privilege to never have experienced the above?

@LadyWithLapdog It's you that is being ridiculous and using your privilege to ignore the hurt of women. And I am only too happy to provide you with links;

Is that enough for you?

Or what about this... how about the LA spa incident where a naked male-bodied person with a semi erection was walking about amongst women and children, in a woman's spa? Later emerged that they are on the sex offenders register. But that was how EASY it was for them to gain access to women's spaces.

Or what about the woman's beauty clinics where a male-bodied person demanded the person on duty wax around their penis and testicles? And then tried (unsuccessfully thankfully) to sue these clinics?

LadyWithLapdog · 16/01/2022 18:24

How are any of those incidents related to non-Tory parties proposed policies?! Especially when they're not even in the UK. Meanwhile, have a look at the dreadfully evil current, existing, government.

Because both Labour and the Lib Dems have bought into TWAW.

David Lammy thought trans women could grow a cervix if they took the right drugs!

Patsnpons · 17/01/2022 02:10

@ShinyHappyPoster

That certain posters appear on every Royal thread that mentions Harry and Meghan. It's like Bloody Mary except its whisper Harry and Meghan only once and within 3 posts, poster x, poster y and poster z will appear. It's so odd. There is no other subject that it happens on. It's almost as though they have an alert set up Grin
This is so true, I play bingo poster 3, 2, 1 yes here they are, it is uncanny how they are there as soon as a thread is about Harry and Meghan!

MulticatHouse · 17/01/2022 12:16

The shopping threads in S&B. I've never heard of half of the places mentioned much less been in one.
I'd never even heard of Boden until I joint MN.

If any thread says 'hubby' or 'let's call them X' I exit and hide it.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 17/01/2022 12:58

That women still defer to their husbands opinion. This is a womens site, with women’s opinions.

There’ll be a load of replies from relevantly qualified women, and someone will still say “i showed this thread to my husband, and he said..”

Thank, now we have a man’s opinion we can all shut up and go home.

Haha I feel this way about ensuites too, I hate them.

All the shower steam coming into the bedroom, the thought of someone having a poo and then releasing the smell into the bedroom while I'm in there...!

Same problem in hotel rooms but I don't mind as much as it's temporary. I am constantly shutting the bathroom door after DP, he just never thinks to do it. Couldn't cope with an ensuite.
