Been watching and listening to a lot of George on Spotify and YouTube lately. Beautiful voice, still miss him! Anyone else?

AnyFucker · 02/01/2022 21:22

Bloody hell what happened to my typing ? It would pass some time beautifully

IntrovertedOldLady · 02/01/2022 21:22

I was just listening to him on radio 2 as well. There was an interview with him from early in his career and all I could think was how down to earth and intelligent he sounded. Just so sad he’s no longer with us

I'm with you. Been listening to a lot of GM recently. Careless whisper, all she wants, praying for time.

That man was the most physically perfect specimen of a man I have ever seen.

I'm so sad I will never see him live.

Longdistance · 02/01/2022 21:24

Back in 2012, I had tickets to go see George in Perth Western Australia when we lived there. He cancelled on us and we were offered Elton John.
I was so disappointed 😢
I have actually met him in real life when I was cabin crew. I was so looking forward to seeing him live too.

He also gave Andrew Ridgeley wiring credit on Careless Whisper so he'd be financially secure. Too empathetic for the world, I think. Sad

Writing obviously. I'm with @AnyFucker on the shit spelling today.

PlanetNormal · 02/01/2022 21:27

I remember when he was on the celebrity version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, play for charity. I can’t remember who his partner was, but they were doing pretty well. They had got to, I think, the £125K question & used their last lifeline to get it down to 50/50. They didn’t know the answer and George said ‘let’s go for it, if we’re wrong I will match it’. Top bloke.

His early Wham stuff is what gets played on the radio & remembered by pop culture shows but for me Listen Without Prejudice was his strongest album. It was completely his own artistic statement and it’s still an amazing album today.

Jagsy · 02/01/2022 21:29

He is very much missed, loved and still love his voice - amazing talent. Was lucky to have seen him live but sad that won’t ever be able to do so again. Every time I listen to I can’t make you love me - it reduces me to tears.

AnyFucker · 02/01/2022 21:29

Thanks

GoodnightGrandma · 02/01/2022 21:29

Saw him in Wham, back in the day. He was my first love 🥰

canary1 · 02/01/2022 21:30

Loved him, miss him. Listen to his music often, wish I had seen him live. Wish he had lived a longer life

AnyFucker · 02/01/2022 21:30

You Have Been Loved reduces me to tears every time

TheVolturi · 02/01/2022 21:31

George was amazing, still can't believe he's gone. Hope you're better soon @AnyFucker

Floralnomad · 02/01/2022 21:32

We saw him live 3/4 times , my daughters first concert was when he played at the new Wembley Stadium just after it opened .

Alieninmybody · 02/01/2022 21:34

He was the only singer I've been to see live. I'll always love his music. He seemed so invested in making other people happy, it's a pity he wasn't always as content in his own life as he deserved.

AnyFucker · 02/01/2022 21:35

@TheVolturi thanks.

5thHelena · 02/01/2022 21:36

Yes. His is the only 'celebrity' death that made me feel genuinely sad. I find his voice so soothing... he sings like an angel. So sad to think of the music he could have made in the future. And he seemed like a good bloke. Very human. Generous. Lots of donations to charity with No Publicity clauses. And not afraid to take the piss out of himself. A genuine shame 😞

Hersetta427 · 02/01/2022 21:36

I still miss him- such a wonderful talent and human being. Listing to him live was like listening to a recording it was so good. Lucky enough to have seen him 3 times. My George Michael playlist is still my most frequently listened to on my Alexa. I have played it so much my 10 yr old son knows the words to all the songs- even the uncommonly ones like Fantasy.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/01/2022 21:38

I remember his death was announced quite late on Christmas Day in 2016. DS1 was almost 2 and I was 5 months pregnant with DD and sitting up watching tv because I had heartburn.
I was really shocked and watched about 5 mins then ran upstairs to DH who was asleep in bed. I woke him up saying 'It's on the news George Michael has died' and he said 'Shit! Really? Are you sure?' as if I might have imagined it or got the wrong person.
He came downstairs with me and we watched it on BBC and Sky News for about an hour.
It felt like one of those really significant deaths and we were both so sorry about it. George was one of those people you just loved- a decent, funny person as well as incredibly talented and somehow very British, bit of a National Treasure I always felt.

OverByYer · 02/01/2022 21:39

I can quite often start crying when I hear a 'Different Corner', such a beautiful song.
His voice was so gorgeous.
I am sad that I never got to see him live.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 02/01/2022 21:42

I tend to get songs stuck in my head when I’m swimming and one day I came home from the pool with “Young Guns” absolutely stuck in my head. It was so stuck I had to play it to my 15 yo DD

I explained to her that it was written by the best songwriter of my generation.

Her scathing put down to that was “How many songwriters were there”.

I then had to introduce her to “A Different Corner”

ESGdance · 02/01/2022 21:44

His Desert Island Discs episode is heartbreaking.

KaptainKaveman · 02/01/2022 21:44

LuluBlakey1 same here. I'm always the last one up and I saw it on the news. Went upstairs in tears to tell dh who was Shock. And then his sister 2 years ago Sad
