I've just discovered Sherry...

...after having to buy a bottle for a recipe I'm making.

I've only ever seen it being drank by Emily Bishop on Coronation Street years ago. I poured myself a small glass to try, and it's bloody lovely.

Does anyone else like a Sherry? This is a basic Tesco one, I'm guessing the more expensive ones are even nicer?

I love a sherry
I'm embracing being an, ahem, older woman by having a small sherry as a pick me upGrin
I prefer pale

RepentBirthingPersonFucker · 30/12/2021 19:33

I drink it at room temperature
Ginger wine is nice too

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2021 19:34

@PlanetNormal

I absolutely love Sherry. Sitting outside a bar in Cadiz in the evening with a glass of chilled, dry Manzanilla and some freshly made tortillas de camarones is my idea of heaven.
Mine too
TwoBigNoisyBoys · 30/12/2021 19:35

Oooh…Love a sherry. So does my fella, who’s a biker, welder, mechanic blokey bloke. He loves the stuff, it’s not just for Emily Bishop 😁 ha ha!

mamaduckbone · 30/12/2021 19:39

I only drink it twice a year - when decorating the Christmas tree and on Christmas morning with my mum. I do like it but it has such strong associations I'm not sure I could do it any other time.

thisplaceisapigsty · 30/12/2021 19:43

I bloody love a sherry, it's the taste of Christmas for me. I'm always a bit shy ordering sherry in a pub but I love it.

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 30/12/2021 19:46

I love it. Was gutted when mine never turned up for my Asda Xmas shop.

ZenNudist · 30/12/2021 19:50

I went round the lustau bodega in jerez. Great afternoon. Drank all sorts of sherry on that trip to the sherry 'triangle'.

My fave is Amontillado.

I have made my way through the 50cl medium dry taste the difference from sainsburys one night this Christmas.

Really fancy a sherry now but I'm not at home and the bottle of port I bought with me is too far away to fetch. Bah!

firefly123 · 30/12/2021 19:51

Absolutely love sherry!

Waftypants · 30/12/2021 19:55

Ooh I love a sherry, not had one for ages. Thanks for the reminder OP

AnotherMansCause · 30/12/2021 19:57

I've always liked a sherry. By coincidence I was saying to DH earlier this evening that I want to get a little sherry glass, like my grandmother used to use. Definitely time to scout the charity shops after New Year. Grin

@absolutelynotfabulous

Sherry has always been a favourite tipple of mine.i discovered it age 12 (my parents were liberal about booze). Nothing quite so Christmassy as a schooner of sherry, sweeter the better, and a large cigar at Christmas.

Gives me the munchies something terrible though. Grin

I remember years ago my dad's elderly uncle was in hospital (or it may have been when he was in a care home.) The staff asked my dad if he could bring a bottle of sherry in for my uncle. He wasn't eating enough and they said a glass before a meal would give him an appetite.
FazeleysRoyale · 30/12/2021 20:22

I asked people for sherry for Christmas because I love it so much. I got three bottles so my stash is very healthy now.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/12/2021 22:12

I've got some sherry glasses from my nan from the 50s. Going to have to start asking for bottles of it for presents!

HeronLanyon · 30/12/2021 22:14

thisplace I know exactly what you mean about ordering in a pub. Let’s go together and I may also even order a port and lemon !!

LadyOfMisrule · 30/12/2021 22:23

I like chilled dry Sherry (la Gitana for preference) with Gouda cheese and spicy salami on hot summer evenings.

OhWhyNot · 30/12/2021 22:28

My nanny loved Sherry (a little too much) it didn’t occur to me it was strange her drinking sherry on Sunday morning while cooking the roast (which we had at 1)

I used to have Ribena in our Sherry glasses (I still prefer Ribena)

Its not quite as awful as port

Witchinthedales · 30/12/2021 22:37

I love a sherry.

SerenTarot · 30/12/2021 22:44

I love a Sherry too, but only at Christmas. Sipping on a glass or two while cooking Christmas dinner is a tradition.

It also goes far better with Cheese and Biscuits than wine does. And we eat a lot of cheese and biscuits over the Christmas season.

I've got probably a couple of glasses left in the bottle and will be using it to toast in the New Year tomorrow night.

Then we're doing dry January Smile

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/12/2021 23:02

I love a sherry! You’ve just reminded me I’ve not had one this year yet.

AdaColeman · 31/12/2021 00:15

For a quick & delicious pudding pour a couple of spoons of sweet sherry such as Gonzales Byass Nectar over naice vanilla ice-cream, serve with little almond biscuits.

Take a bottle of dry sherry such as a fino or manzanilla, push in 5 or 6 dried chilli peppers and recork, ( you may need to have a little glass to make space in the bottle).
Leave for two or three weeks. Use the spicy sherry instead of vodka in Bloody Marys.

Now is a good time to shop for sherry as it’s often reduced just after Christmas.

Riverlee · 31/12/2021 09:03

Can someone tell about the difference types of sherry - I ended up buying a supermarket own brand as I wasn’t sure what to buy.

HeronLanyon · 31/12/2021 09:10

I also don’t really know anything about Sherry other than loving a very cold ‘light’ ‘dry’ Sherry often in Spain. Don’t remember any labels etc. Going to Spanish/North African restaurant for lunch in a bit with a great wine list. I shall photo and also order and sample !! Grin I may even report back after a lie down.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/12/2021 09:24

In winter I always have a bottle of Amontillado (medium sherry) on the go. It sits in a ship’s decanter - inherited from my DF - on the sideboard.

I love it.

Wouldn’t want it in warm weather though - that’s G&T time.

isitnewyearyet · 31/12/2021 12:20

Wow I wanna try it now! Which brand is nice?
