When do you take the lot down?

Just that really!

We had a lovely Christmas at my parents this year. Come home, got a big pile of DDs old toys and clothes to take to the woman's refugee shelter, new clothes washed and hung up, new toys in her toy basket.

Tree down, lights down, all the decks are down. I don't know about anyone else but as soon as Boxing Day is done I get an overwhelming urge to take down the decs. My mum keeps them up until New Year's Day but it stresses me out!

Just a little light hearted one really, when do you take your decs down?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Mine came down yesterday, took the tree to the top today.

It wasn’t the only one I the garden waste skip.

Thesearmsofmine · 27/12/2021 16:58

12th night here. Ours went up at the start of December and I’m still enjoying the lights. I will probably put some of the extra bits away like the nativity.

Helpstopthepain · 27/12/2021 16:58

Ours stay up as long as possible! I love how cosy they make the house!

@Itstheprinciple why is it miserable? I’m not competing with anyone I’m just happier by this point with a clean and tidy house.

Tinsellittis · 27/12/2021 17:01

12th Night, it’s still Christmas Xmas Grin

User2638483 · 27/12/2021 17:02

New Year’s Day for me
I like to have the pretty lights up for New Year’s Eve but definitely had enough by then, especially now we put them up beginning of December. I think the real tree will be starting to tire too.

Chloemol · 27/12/2021 17:03

New Years Day, my birthday falls between Christmas and New Year so I leave them up

Popetthetreehugger · 27/12/2021 17:04

We did our family Christmas on Christmas Eve, DH was eyeing the tree by Christmas afternoon 🤣…. But it’s staying till New Year’s Day !

I can't believe people have already taken their Christmas decorations down! I am sitting in my Christmas PJs still stuffing myself with Christmas food with the light off and Christmas tree on.

This year the tree went up the middle of November (admittedly early even for me) and doesn't come down until the 5th January!) I absolutely love Christmas!

KerryLopez123 · 27/12/2021 17:11

Hello all!!!
Did you know that Ethiopia is one of the oldest nations in Africa.
It still follows the ancient Julian calendar, so Ethiopians celebrate Christmas on january 7.

✝ Merry Christmas For my Ethiopian members.

Used to on 6th but usually 29th/30th December now.

Oblomov21 · 27/12/2021 17:12

Stresses you out? We take ours down beginning of Jan.

KatherineJaneway · 27/12/2021 17:13

6th January

Chatwin · 27/12/2021 17:14

2nd or 3rd January for me. Would be weird to celebrate Hogmanay without decorations up. I always find the ones who are fed up of the decorations by Boxing Day are the ones who put them up in November, which (to me) seems bonkers.

Holothane · 27/12/2021 17:15

Done and throwing stuff out as well 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂0h yes 9m going to enjoy the next few months.

danidandan · 27/12/2021 17:18

I think it stresses me out because DD is crawling and starting to walk and she's constantly trying to eat the tree / baubles / presents / lights and they're in the space for her new toys.

We bought her a corner foam ball pit for Christmas and a wooden climb frame, and it needs to go in the corner where the tree was (due to its shape) so I guess I just wanted to get everything in place so DD can get to her new toys.

I bloody love Christmas but I see post Christmas as a fresh new start and have a declutter for the new year.
(I still have mince pies, Camembert, stollen bars and baileys to get through yet though!)

Mum has her tree up from November - mid of jan so we do get to enjoy decs for a while anyway!

No, Orthodox Christians in the United States celebrate Christmas a little bit later than everyone else, on 7 January.
Orthodox Christmas also celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God.

Wickywoo1984 · 27/12/2021 17:21

Mine has been up since the end of November as we had covid and needed something to do and cheering up so we put the decs up. Think I'll put them down on 29th as we're going away on holiday for New Years and don't want to come back to have to do it.

danidandan · 27/12/2021 17:22

It's a good time to have a declutter!

Thankfully we are off the whole Christmas period so I see it as a time of 'out with the old and in with the new'

Love going into the new year on a clean slate!

Today, we have them up early because w really enjoy the build up and take them down now so we enjoy the 'quiet' before new year

IsThePopeCatholic · 27/12/2021 17:24

New year’s day.

Livpool · 27/12/2021 17:24

After New Year sometime - I love decorations

zafferana · 27/12/2021 17:25

Ours will be coming down on either New Year's Day or 2nd Jan and I'll go out and buy some nice flowers instead.
