Terrified

I'm terrified of getting my first vaccine. What side effects did people have with each vaccine?

Exactly it's better than getting terrified. I suffer with really bad anxiety so I'm just terrified of everything.

3 x Pfizer

Shooting nerve pain in lower legs starting within 48 hours of all 3 vaccines and lasting around one month

Quite uncomfortable

I submitted a yellow card for it.

Talipesmum · 18/12/2021 22:29

Az, Az, moderna booster.
After first jab:Slightly sore arm and feeling a bit temperaturey and prickly for about a day.
Second jab: nothing
Booster: sore arm (nothing visible but achy) and grotty hung over feeling which was helped by paracetamol, lasted about 24-36 hours. Totally fine after that.

I did have covid a bit before my booster, and while I felt a bit crap, I was about to carry on wfh throughout.

AZ 1 - sore arm, v tired for 24 hours
AZ 2 - nothing
Moderna - sore arm, went to the gym next day

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 18/12/2021 22:35

Pfizer for all 3. First and second jabs, I barely knew I'd had them. Bit of an aching arm. 3rd one I had an aching arm and was tired the next day. That was it.

Somebodylikeyew · 18/12/2021 22:36

Pfizer x 3.
Sore arm for 24 hours after 1 and 3, nothing at all after 2.

ohfourfoxache · 18/12/2021 22:38

Could your GP give you something to help manage the anxiety?

TokenGinger · 18/12/2021 22:38

@nocoolnamesleft

I had Pfizer for all 3. Bit of a sore arm, and felt a bit tired and headachy for the first one, just the sore arm for the second and third. On the way home from the first vaccine I also felt amazing joy and exhilaration: I was singing in the car. Though I think that was relief to actually be able to do something to reduce my chances of dying, rather than an actual side effect.
I also had Pfizer my and symptoms were exactly the same as this. Sore arm with all 3. First one, I had a headache about an hour later that lasted for maybe an hour or two. No other symptoms.
bofski14 · 18/12/2021 22:45

First one - no side effects at all, second one - sore arm for a day or two, booster - bit tired.

The chance of you having anything serious to worry about is miniscule. I would bet that the anxiety you're putting yourself through doubting it is physically worse for you than the side effects even if they did come.

Twillow · 18/12/2021 22:45

1 AZ - flu-like symptoms for 48 hours
2 AZ - tired, mild body aches for 24 hours- had a long sleep in the day which is very unusual for me
Booster Pfizer - insomnia for 1 night, mild arm ache 24 hours.

Nothing to be scared of - be more afraid of getting ill, maybe long covid, and not being able to look after your baby.

MrsKeats · 18/12/2021 22:46

None.

chartreue · 18/12/2021 22:47

All 6 of us in this family have had at least 2 vaccinations and the worst side effect was a bit of a sore arm.

I suffer from anxiety too, so I understand, but honestly it's like going to the dentist, never as bad as you think it's going to be and you wonder why didn't you go sooner rather than spend ages worrying about it.

By getting the vaccine you're doing the best thing you can for yourself and your baby who needs a healthy mum to take care of her.

Della1 · 18/12/2021 22:47

I had a slightly sore arm each time (same as flu jab). The side effects from a vaccine will not be as bad as catching covid. You can do this.

Boood · 18/12/2021 22:48

AZ 1- sore arm for a few days, mild hangover symptoms for 24 hours
AZ 2- nothing
Moderna booster- only had it yesterday. The guy was a bit brutal and my arm really hurts, but fine apart from that.

Loo87 · 18/12/2021 22:49

I'm on medication for my anxiety. I just need to bite the bullet and get the vaccine. I really appreciate all of your responses

I had Astra Zeneca for the first two jabs. After the first one, I started to feel like I was coming down with a cold/flu (shivery and achey) exactly 12 hours after the jab. I was unwell and had a fever for 24 hours, but it wasn't awful.

After the second AZ jab, I felt a bit 'off' for 30 minutes a bit later in the day. That was all.

I recently had a Pfizer booster. I started to feel unwell the next day and had a fever up to 101 degrees for a day. My arm also REALLY hurt for days. None of it was bad enough to keep me off work, though.

TitoMojito · 18/12/2021 22:50

Pfizer for all three doses here.

  1. No side effects
  2. Arm was aching for a few days. Day after the jag I just felt a bit sluggish.
  3. Sore arm and a bit of a headache, but painkillers fixed it.
Changecountetextraordinaire · 18/12/2021 22:52

2 x Oxford and Biontech for booster. Slightly sore arm with first two, nothing with booster.

Only person I know who had any real side effect was 24 hours of flu like symptoms after first Biontech vaccine.

TidyDancer · 18/12/2021 22:53

I had two Oxford Astra Zeneca and then Pfizer for my booster.

First one I felt a bit lightheaded for about 24 hours (like having a hangover I guess) and a heavy arm.

Second, absolutely nothing that I can recall, went on a long walk carrying bags the next day.

Third I had a heavy arm again for maybe a day and a bit of tiredness but no other symptoms.

Just a tip OP, tell the vaccine centre that you're nervous and they will do what they can for you. I saw people being offered to have the jab laying down and the team were chatting about non-jab stuff to people who were anxious. Over and done with before they knew it.

WiltedDaffs · 18/12/2021 22:54

Had Pfizer for first and second doses

  1. Sore arm
  2. Sore arm and a temperature

Having my booster tomorrow.

Weenurse · 18/12/2021 22:57

Advantage is that if you are breast feeding, baby will benefit as well.
Good luck

Starcup · 18/12/2021 22:57

No side effects here op

Phoenix76 · 18/12/2021 22:58

I’m a fellow anxiety sufferer op, I do understand. When it all kicked off, I found myself on the shielding list (my anxiety loved that!).

I was also anxious about getting the vaccine but the fact I have two dc who need me and the knowledge that if I did contract covid it would likely kill me that spurred me on. I’ve had 3 doses. Main symptom was a sore arm (for about 2 days, didn’t stop me doing anything just aware of it), felt fatigued but was still able to do my very stressful job at work and take care of the kids. The relief having it now is immense.

ChristmasWithBellsOn · 18/12/2021 22:59

I have had three Pfizers.

Like many others I had a sore arm, and felt slightly under the weather for 24-36 hours. I could function (work, childcare, life) as normal for the period.

DontPeeInThePlayHouse · 18/12/2021 23:01

I had 2x AZ. First one I felt proper grotty but still well enough to take care of my DC on my own albeit mainly from the sofa on a TV day. 2nd had no side effects.

Had a Moderna booster and felt crappy but like a hang over. again a TV day for the DC but it was fine. All 'big' side effects stopped by 24 hrs and left an aftertaste of tiredness, but nothing a few early night couldn't sort.
