Terrified

I'm terrified of getting my first vaccine. What side effects did people have with each vaccine?

OP posts:
KloppsTeeth · 18/12/2021 23:27

AZ for 1 and 2. No booster yet. No side effects at all. Didn’t even know they had done it, I hate needles, and was scared. I need not have worried

fedup65356 · 18/12/2021 23:31

AZ 1 - feverishness and tiredness kicked in about 4 hours after the jab, lasted about 24 hours, felt fine after about 48 hours. Sore/itchy arm lasted about 2 weeks afterwards.

AZ 2 - nothing other than slight tiredness.

Pfizer booster - had this morning - slight chills and possibly slightly feverish, arm feels bruised, feeling hungry and a bit thirsty. Think it may have aggravated my existing tinnitus but only mildly. Otherwise OK so far.

Don't be scared - please get your jab. The benefits far outweigh not getting it done.

ohfourfoxache · 18/12/2021 23:32

You should be really proud of yourself

Managing to get to grips with anxiety enough to get a vaccine is a big deal

You know you need it. And you will get it. Because you need to stay healthy for your little one. That’s more important than anything else

Instead of booking would you feel any better going to a walk in site?

We're living on a rock filled with boiling lava spinning through space at constant risk of being obliterated by comets and other extinction events and you're afraid of an injection?

Perhaps that will give you a sense of perspective.

Clearthinking · 18/12/2021 23:38

I had the shivers with first AZ for a few hours and little light headed. Nothing with second

Blinky21 · 18/12/2021 23:41

First AZ felt really ill for a day, painful joints, delirious
Second AZ slightly tired for 2 hrs

catscatscurrantscurrants · 18/12/2021 23:43

Well done for deciding to go. Terrible anxiety held me back from going for mine. I had my second one two weeks ago and am so glad to have got through the fear. Pfizer for both, 24 hours of a sore arm for first one, 48 hours of sore arm and tiredness for the second. Painkillers took care of it and all was fine.

Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 18/12/2021 23:44

My first two were AZ; first I felt a bit coldy the next morning, nothing after second.

Booster was Pfizer, again no reaction at all.

I do feel very happy that I am as well protected as possible, it is so worth it :)

HideousKinky · 18/12/2021 23:46

First 2 - AstraZeneca
Booster - Pfizer

Absolutely no symptoms after any of them

WutheringHeights66 · 18/12/2021 23:48
  1. AZ - slight aching muscles in the middle of the night for an hour or two, resolved with two paracetamol.
  2. AZ - nothing.
  3. Pfizer - sore arm for two days

Get your vaccination!

Timeisavirtue · 18/12/2021 23:49

Had Astra Zeneca, no side affects with either, arm hurt for less than 2 hours.
My mum had Astra and felt tired with the first and just a sore arm with the second..
DP had phizer, sore arms both times.
DS had phizer and only had a sore arm
My uncles both had phizer, one felt tired for one and fine for the 2nd and the other was fine for both. They’ve just had thier boosters and only a sore arm.
My brother had moderna and was lethargic, sore arm, fever for both. He hardly ever gets ill

Lunaduckdrop · 18/12/2021 23:51

2 AZ then Pf booster.
None at all from AZ.
Very slight sore arm after booster.
No other symptoms.

waterlego · 18/12/2021 23:52

I had AZ x 2 and a Pfizer chaser today. Sore arm each time (difficult to lift the arm to shoulder height) but very short-lives and no other side effects.

I don’t think it likely you’ll regret your decision to get vaccinated. Thank you for being brave enough. 💐

Lalliella · 19/12/2021 00:00

I cried when I had my first one. Proper sobs. Just overwhelmed by the work and dedication from so many people that had gone into developing it and delivering it. What an amazing achievement to save so many lives. I’m so grateful. If anyone here has been involved - thank you so much.

momiamarichman · 19/12/2021 00:01

I had two Pfizer previously and booster Moderna on Thursday. Nothing but a sore arm- in and out in 5 minutes.

Very glad to have had my booster!

Theunamedcat · 19/12/2021 00:05

I have a condition called graves disease so I reacted to the vaccine I was the only one in my family who did because I'm the ONLY one with graves

But I'm still getting my booster next week

Smokeahontas · 19/12/2021 00:07

2x AZ with a Pfizer booster

After AZ 1 - sore ankles and knees for 6 hours the day after
AZ 2 - absolutely nothing
Pfizer - sore arm

MissCruellaDeVil · 19/12/2021 00:08

Sore arm like any other vaccine really, never been unwell from them.

DelurkingAJ · 19/12/2021 00:11

AZ twice, nothing, not even a sore arm. Pfizer booster a few days of mild diarrhoea…could work at my WFH office job effectively throughout.

MintyCedric · 19/12/2021 00:12

3 x Pfizer for me and my mum, 2 x Pfizer for DD.

AZ initial jabs for XH and his DP. Not sure about boosters...

None of us have had any side effects beyond a sore arm for 24 hours or so.

My best mate felt flu-ey for about 36 hours after her first AZ but was fine after the second one.

I've now known anyone in RL who has had side effects otherwise.

Dazedandconfused10 · 19/12/2021 00:14

Moderna

First - Ill for about 5 days, couldn't stay awake, no energy, fever, felt horrendous

Second -as above but only for 3 days

livinthedream1995 · 19/12/2021 00:15

I had Pfizer for all 3. I had a slightly sore arm for a day or so after each one, that’s literally it. Hope all goes well!

CafeCremeMerci · 19/12/2021 00:17

@Loo87

I have a little baby and I'm terrified of the side effects of the vaccine. But I know I have to have it rather than the seriousness of catching covid
Oh lovely, try not to worry. After hearing peoples side effects, I got properly prepared with pain killers, easy to grab food, a friend checking in on me (I live alone). Everything.

2x AZ & I didn't even have a sore arm!
Pfizer booster. (Forgot to 'get prepared'- was cross with myself!!) but again, nothing!!

I'm sure the vast majority of people have nothing/slightly sore arm & some people feel a bit rough. The chances of you feeling so bad you can't look after your baby are very very very small. I'm sure someone will be happy to help if you feel a bit yuck x

RamblingOldWoman · 19/12/2021 00:35

8.7 billion doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered so far OP. The vast, vast majority of those people will have had little to no side effects.

In my household 5 of us have had both jabs. DH and I have had the booster as well, DS3 is 11 so can’t have it yet. We’ve had a mixture of Pfizer, AZ and Moderna. None of us had anything more than a sore arm and I had a very slight headache for a few days after my 1st. Out of the running into the 100s of people I’ve talked to who have had jabs, they were similar.

You have more chance of having a car accident on the way there, than becoming seriously ill from it, and obviously more chance of Covid itself making you ill.

Just prepare yourself that you may feel a bit crap for a few days. stock up on shopping, plan to get takeaways, have someone on standby to take your DC. You’ll be unlikely to need it but being prepared will help you feel less anxious. Be aware that any side effects may be magnified by your anxiety as well.

Dogshark · 19/12/2021 00:40

Az1- felt a bit rough the next day, nothing that would justify a day off work
Az2- as above
Moderna booster- felt hungover and fuzzy for a couple of days. Again, nothing that would justify a day off.

Well done for going for it.
