Well yes being cold and dirty are key signs of abuse and neglect...

Malibuismysecrethome · 03/12/2021 20:31

Maybe the grandmother was referring to the hairdresser who was one of the last people to see Arthur

AliceMck · 03/12/2021 20:33

@vickyp0llard

Surely if you choose to work in the police it is literally your job to deal with scary people like this? If you don't want to deal with horrible/intimidating members of the public then a career change might be in order....
And if the police push too much they get accused of bullying, harassment, intimidation…. They are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t.

The sad reality is that everyone but children and victims of crimes have an abundance of rights that prioritise their needs and protect them over the people who actually need protecting. This will never change. There will be investigations, reviews “lessons learnt”, policy changes blah blah blah, nothing will ever change. Politicians care about lining their own pockets, talking shit and playing games, they will never prioritise social welfare and victims of crimes over themselves and their mates. Then there are the namby-pamby liberals who will cause outrage about the rights of everybody else but the actual people who need protecting.

I said it on the last thread, Hughes just had a better barrister than Tustin

She got 29 years minimum and may never leave
He'll be out in 14

They both killed him, they both tortured him. Arthur was so weak when he died that it could just have easily been Hughes that killed him, more than likely the next attack or beating would have killed the poor boy and it just so happened to be Tustin that time.

Please tell me that that short sentence for Hughes can be reviewed and extended?

They both deserve to rot in there!

Feenie · 03/12/2021 20:34

Tustin’s stepfather, I reckon - he clearly didn’t regard him as one of his grandchildren.

That's a huge sweeping statement! Having a lovely home does not equate to having a loving family. And if that's all some social workers are going on then it's no wonder things get so bad for some children!
Feenie · 03/12/2021 20:39

The hairdresser’s dad posted on Facebook in an attempt to explain his dd’s actions. He said she’d been assaulted by someone but was so misrepresented in court than the male perpetrator got away with it. He said as a result she was mistrustful of the system and it took a lot for her to take the stand in this case and that she really was a lovely person.

Yeah, didn’t wash with me, either. Hmm

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 03/12/2021 20:41

Yeah, she sounds like a lovely person, just misunderstood, I’m sure. Hmm

Malibuismysecrethome · 03/12/2021 20:41

Feenie but he reported Arthur’s abuse to social services anonymously and was disgusted by their treatment of Arthur. So many reported their concerns.

Hearwego · 03/12/2021 20:48

I believe they could appeal Hughes sentence to make it longer, it’s unlikely he will appeal himself for a shorter sentence given the evidence against him.

I believe ET should be locked up forever, but 29 years is a long time, yes not long enough, but it’s possible she may never be released anyway.
I also think Hughes should have had the same too. Why wasn’t murder by joint enterprise used?

Feenie · 03/12/2021 20:49

No, he didn’t, that was a lie - he couldn’t remember whether it was him or her mum and no record was found of either. He said he’d reported Hughes, not his stepdaughter. She was a stand up mum, according to him.

user1481840227 · 03/12/2021 20:51

Cannot believe Hughes mother did not point any blame at her son Thomas Hughes. He is a monster. He is equally to blame.

Malibuismysecrethome · 03/12/2021 20:55

How do we know it was a lie it may just have not been recorded

Feenie · 03/12/2021 20:57

Of course you would remember which one of you had phoned social services about your stepdaughter’s boyfriend! He was shown to be a very unreliable witness all round - and was also fairly belligerent, just like his stepdaughter. He did her no favours.

Malibuismysecrethome · 03/12/2021 20:59

Feenie he did say the abuse he witnessed was terrible or words to that effect, so yes he didn’t do her any favours but he was a good prosecution witness.

Feenie · 03/12/2021 21:00

He was there for the defence!

Naughtynovembertree · 03/12/2021 21:06

Tustin said her step dad said they couldn't have Arthur around anymore because of his behaviour.

I'm really annoyed by the press calling tustin Arthur's step mum
She wasn't she was pretty much a random gf... It was a new relationship

I consider the term used for people who are married or, where care, attention and time has been taken to build up a relationship.

They were all living together and by the sounds of it, Hughes was out a lot leaving Arthur in her 'care'.

I don't think the term is misleading, she was the female head of the home he unfortunately lived in Sad

Naughtynovembertree · 03/12/2021 21:33

Whilst the units mobilised should rightly be investigated also we need to focus on those perps.

ufucoffee · 03/12/2021 21:33

Not sure if this has been asked and answered but does anyone know why Tustins 2 children were removed from her care?

Feenie · 03/12/2021 21:33

I agree with naughtynovembertree, an accident of living circumstances doesn't make a parent.

Feenie · 03/12/2021 21:35

Because she threw herself from the sixth floor of a multi-storey carpark.

user1481840227 · 03/12/2021 21:37

@Feenie

Because she threw herself from the sixth floor of a multi-storey carpark.
It can't be as black and white as that though. I'm sure there have been other parents who have attempted suicide and not had their children taken off them permanently.
Feenie · 03/12/2021 21:39

Spending six months in hospital would probably do it though.

Previously to that, she'd jumped out of a bedroom window and broken her leg.

Malibuismysecrethome · 03/12/2021 21:41

I really don’t believe she fell six storeys and survived. She must be a medical miracle.
