Finally. We can say it.

I've just utterly broken down for Arthur.

I work full time and life is busy at the moment but if in future I get more time I will definitely look into fostering a child because of this case. This little boy should be looking forward to Christmas with a loving family. Opening his calendar each morning. I also like the idea of donating to a charity for disadvantaged children. I’m not religious but I hope this little boy is at peace. There are so many people who would have loved to have had him in their lives and who would have loved him.

Onceuponatimethen · 02/12/2021 22:04

@RubyTuesday70 I agree poor Arthur should be excited about Christmas not awaiting burial Sad

But I understand the rest in peace sentiment too. Arthur is in not in pain now poor child.

IWasHotInTheNineties · 02/12/2021 22:04

@Tryagainplease I wish Arthur knew. Him saying nobody loves him will stay with me forever

She has 4 children, the oldest 2 were removed permanently and the way she spoke to them in the street before she tried to kill herself was absolutely vile. She later had 2 more that she was allowed to keep.
Shame she didn't succeed.
allthingsred · 02/12/2021 22:06

I couldn't watch the video of him.. its too heartbreaking.
These 2 are monsters. Sick twisted monsters..

Felldownabackdonhole · 02/12/2021 22:06

Poor little Arthur. It is just heartbreaking what he went through. He must have felt absolutely broken not just by the abuse but by the fact no one came to rescue him.

I really feel that we don’t value children enough in this country. We allow them to go hungry we allow them to live with abusers. That should never happen. If you have been found to abuse a child you should never be allowed to have contact or have a child live with you ever again.

Fetchthevet · 02/12/2021 22:08

I've just read about this poor little boy and I am heartbroken. It breaks my heart that he said no one loved him. Rest in peace Arthur, you beautiful boy Flowers

The fact that the CCTV was there with Tustin's express knowledge (she did it after the hairdresser suggested it) - suggest to me either Tustin (or Hughes were (1) very thick to think that it was normal to make a case in advance against a 6 yr old child (2) had such profound personality disorders/were so cut off from society that they genuinely did not think what they were doing was wrong (3) did know what they were doing was wrong but were so evil that not only did they not think to cover it up but they actively recorded it both themselves on their phones and also via cctv they themselves installed.
I find the police bodycam interview of Tustin on arrest quite chilling - it is like when she is explaining that Arthur himself hit his own head, that the police would understand that the key thing which was going on there was a naughty kid, not the very obvious child abuse. eg going to the trouble of showing the police the concrete floor "without underlay" and adding in details like that Arthur threatened to get his mother to kill her. just beyond bizarre and twisted.

Bagelsandbrie · 02/12/2021 22:09

Social services don’t just remove a child because their parent has tried to commit suicide. Plenty of parents have severe mental health issues and go on to keep their children- I suspect Tustin was abusive towards her children and this, in conjunction with her mental health issues, was why they were removed. It wasn’t just due to her attempting to commit suicide. Social services should never have allowed Arthur to stay with her given her background.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 02/12/2021 22:12

@TuesdayRuby

One of the most haunting cases I’ve ever read. Literally hurts my heart when I think about it. I hate reading people say “now he’s at peace”.. he’s 6 years old, he shouldn’t be resting in peace, he should be out on his bike or playing with cars in his room or getting ice cream from the shop. It’s just all so fucking sad and unfair and a waste of a beautiful young life. How on earth can this stuff keep happening? Sad

I can only hope the monsters who treated him like this get what’s coming to them.

So true. I have a son the same age as Arthur - I see the joy he has for life and all it has to offer. He’s so excited about Christmas, going to the theatre etc. Arthur should be getting to do the same. He’s been robbed of a happy childhood and his whole life. It’s so devastatingly sad.
bubblesbubbles11 · 02/12/2021 22:13

"and the way she spoke to them in the street before she tried to kill herself was absolutely vile"

surely the previous case where her children were taken off her is not reported?
And surely Hughes knew about her two kids who were taken off her.
I also find it bizarre that she was pregnant with his baby and, inspite of watching how she treated Arthur, he was happy with the idea she would be a mother to his child.

Yes

Utter disgrace isn't It

Feeling really angry about all this

My ex abusive bastard in criminal court recently
One incident involved a very young child
My barrister said 'he only did x, y,z' he didn't kill her

My bloody barrister
Sent chivers down my spine

Baby P , Victoria climbelbe
No one learned one fcking. Thing

And all that every child matters bullshit they threw at us in uni?
Nonsense

So many kids suffering

ThousandsOfTulips · 02/12/2021 22:16

@dontforgettofloss

Prison needs to be made tougher for the likes of these monsters- they should be locked in a room, with a bucket, not let out for exercise, and given dry bread and water (although that's too good for them really)
They should only feed her food laced with salt.
Tryagainplease · 02/12/2021 22:16

The things that’s chilling is there may well be other children going through similar right now as we post. That makes my blood run cold.

Bluntness100 · 02/12/2021 22:16

I just watched the video of her outside the house saying he’d done it to himself and then her 999 call, it’s just sick, her lying like that after what she’s done to him.

Wtaf fuck is wrong with the two of them.

Livelovebehappy · 02/12/2021 22:17

There are so many Arthur’s out there living horrific life’s, who may not end up dead, but suffer every single day from neglect and abuse by the very people who should be protecting them. It’s heartbreaking.

Tryagainplease · 02/12/2021 22:17

I usually never condone violence. I try to see stuff on a societal level but my primal, emotional instinct wants her to suffer. And I hate her for what he did and I hate her for making us all feel this way.

Lockheart · 02/12/2021 22:17

It's an educational read, this thread.

Abuse is sadly a very difficult cycle to break. The odds suggest that, if poor Arthur had grown up and had children himself, he would not be of a dissimilar mould to his parents. And then the posters on here wishing death and torture on his parents could wish it on him instead.

Food for thought, in an extremely sad case.

NortieTortie · 02/12/2021 22:17

That video of Arthur made me cry until I was sick - absolutely cannot comprehend the evil that goes through their minds. That poor, sweet little boy could've been cherished the way he deserved.

JennetHumfrye · 02/12/2021 22:19

I hope the pair of them rot in hell. That poor little love. I am so angry!!! How can this happen? I truly hope they get their comeuppance. There can be no defence for what they did to Arthur.

JennetHumfrye · 02/12/2021 22:20

@Bluntness100

I have to be honest, I sincerely hope both these people are horrifically tortured in prison every single day for the rest of their lives.

Every single day I want someone to feed them salt, starve them, make them stand for hours on end, beat them, abuse them, mock them, make them sleep on the cold floor, video them and let’s us all see. Every single day I want the other prisoners to do that to them, for the rest of their lives.

Just like they did every single day to that little boy. And I want them to live till a ripe old age in prison, taking that daily torture they inflicted, and then die a cold horrible lonely death as people video them and mock them like that little boy died.

It’s the only justice.

I couldn't have put this better myself. The abusive, psychotIc, lying bastards,
Appleandoranges · 02/12/2021 22:21

But when the social worker came, apparently Arthur showed no unhappiness. How can we prevent this happening again? Or do we have to accept that there will be another Arthur, another Star Hobson, Daniel Pelka, Peter Connelly...It's absolutely heart breaking to think so! Maybe social workers are good for when adults need support or advice in parenting. But when a child is in actual danger, we should call the police as we would do if an adult was in danger? Would the outcomes be different? What's sickening about this story and others is the two adults seem to actually bond over tormenting a defenceless child together. There's something so cruel inside some of humanity. I also can't believe the hairdresser and partner? saw a malnourished and frail child who was treated cruelly and only sneaked him a glass of water. Weren't they horrified? Just wondering whether as a society we tolerate too much cruelty to children in the name of discipline. It's acceptable to make a child face a wall without speaking to discipline them? But then, you have to wonder what else the parent is doing behind your back. It will make us feel better to wish ill on the two who did this, but in the name of the children who have died already, we also need to to at least try and build a society where this doesn't happen! Also if a parent has abused or neglected a child in the past, I don't think they deserve a second chance. Children's right to a safe future be it foster care trumps the parent's rights over their children.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 02/12/2021 22:22

Why would anyone stay with a new partner who disliked their child this much

It never ceases to amaze me how often we see it on MN. People put sex/relationship above their duty to their child.

Naughtynovembertree · 02/12/2021 22:23

Miss Lucy I find your defense of the sw in this case revolting.

They had to properly look at his back. They didn't. They sat there for some considerable time however being fed utter bs by tustin and Hughes.
They then didn't speak to Arthur alone but with tustin son.

They were at the house for plenty of time to do two things, check him properly physically and talk to him alone.

It's indefensible that they didn't.
It's indefensible.

lollipoprainbow · 02/12/2021 22:24

The police should have powers to force their way into a home if they suspect abuse is taking place and check the child thoroughly for bruises etc. According to reports the police in this case were too scared to confront the mother.
