Finally. We can say it.

I've just utterly broken down for Arthur.

Heart breaking. That poor child.

Bluntness100 · 02/12/2021 21:19

@FolornLawn

How can it be possible that if someone has had children removed from their care, they are allowed to live with more children later? That can’t be right.
They weren’t removed permanently and it was not due to abuse, it was as she’d attempted suicide.

As said, her children were there in the home as they abused Arthur.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 02/12/2021 21:20

That's even more heartbreaking realising her dc were complicit in the abuse unknowingly. To get other children to do that too is evil. I hope her dc get the therapy they need to live normal lives in the future.
Also why arent people who are CONVICTED of hurting children forcibly steralized? They should NEVER be given the option to breed again.
@oakleaffy the screws are known arrange for beatings to happen or turn a blind eye. I know I would if I was meant to be protecting these bastards (I am not calling them humans and certainly not ‘parents’, they aren’t worthy of it)
I hope they {The Screws} DO forget to shut a cell door or two.

I'd heard child killers and abusers are the lowest of the low in Jail, and rightly so.
It is inexcusable.
It's also appalling that little Arthur's mother is also in jail for killing .. Arthur should have been under the care of his Grandmother.. she reported her concerns , Why wasn't she gives custody of Arthur?

feelingfree17 · 02/12/2021 21:24

Poor little man. RIP sweetheart
I understand the inmates have already had a good go at her

October2020 · 02/12/2021 21:24

This is a horrific case. That poor little boy.

Those of you advocating the same behaviour to happen to them would benefit from expanding your minds by reading 'The Devil You Know' by Gwen Ashead.

We, as a whole society, need to change the 'bicycle lock combination' she discusses to stop these things happening. One social worker, one family friend etc, doesn't stop this.

Naughtynovembertree · 02/12/2021 21:26

Thanks October Confused why don't you share it more of the book with us and help us to expand our minds Hmm

Itsnotover · 02/12/2021 21:27

If they didn't want him why did they not just put him into care?

Sociopaths see their children as their belongings. Not as people in their own right. They will fight family members in court who would offer the child a truly loving home. To them, it's about winning.

In the US fairly recently there was the case of a little girl called Averylee Hobbs. She was murdered by her mother at the age of 4. Her mother had been sent to prison for fracturing her skull at just 3 weeks old. When she got out, she fought tooth and nail for custody of the daughter she hated and then beat her to death.

These are not normal people.

FestiveMelts · 02/12/2021 21:29

@Bagelsandbrie I've avoided detail on the case so had missed it - god, that is just shameful from the HD.

xmasfairy21 · 02/12/2021 21:29

Anyone else also following the star Hobson trial?
Similar with evil step mother ..!

ChipPotts · 02/12/2021 21:30

My workplace is very close to where Arthur was murdered. I feel sick that whilst I was at work this was going on just down the road.

BeardyButton · 02/12/2021 21:30

@alexander2001 👏

“We need well funded public services, we haven't got these, so the vulnerable pay the price.”

I feel rage too about those people. But we need to start looking closer to home. We need to look at attitudes towards children and how policy expresses those attitudes. The Tories have cut funding that would benefit vulnerable chn (and other chn) to the bone. Social services, education etc etc. If we really want to stop this happening we need to fund the safety net that catches chn in awful situations better.

AnnieSnap · 02/12/2021 21:30

@oakleaffy My former husband used to be a Prison Officer, they often ‘turn a blind eye’!

Yes. SB very similar. Absolute psychopath. Stood on the stand and said that the experts were wrong. Same as Tustin.

That sounds similar to that U.K. case where the father fought to regain custody and then murdered his daughter.

Yes. Tustin told the hairdresser that she wouldn’t return Arthur to his Nan and he would have “won”. She saw it as a battle of wills, she wanted to break him.

I think their abuse of Arthur was what bound them together. He was their possession.

AnnieSnap · 02/12/2021 21:35

They often also want to hang on to the child as it’s a source of income!

Oh you wouldn’t believe what social workers find acceptable. Baby’s Peter’s mother had that monster’s baby whilst in custody and social workers fought for her to bond with and keep the baby. The police overruled them. That’s how stupid they are.

I agree. It’s very dangerous to turn these people into demons (though tempting). The issues here are (partly) societal. Chn are much more likely than adults to suffer poverty and violence. We need to have a rethink about how we view chn and how we vote.

I don’t know if any literature/research on this. But I wonder..... how do scandi countries (that tend to fund services for chn) do when it comes to stats on this sort of crime.

I see attitudes on here all the time that make me shudder. The thread last yr on the crappy quality free school meals handed out during lockdown comes to mind. So many many posters going on about the personal responsibility of parents....

oakleaffy · 02/12/2021 21:39

@SnottyLottie

Bagelsandbrie “2 younger ones were living with her at the time of Arthur’s murder. One of them can be heard on the recording released of him saying “no ones gonna feed me” asking if he wants a cuddle”

Oh my God, that’s so horrific on so many different levels ☹️

Honestly this case has really affected me. I pity the poor jurors having to go through such horrific evidence.

Jurors really have my sympathy, too.They can surely never un-see or un hear those recordings.
Fallagain · 02/12/2021 21:39
@immersivereader you are right.
When one of these awful cases happen it's social services who are put in the frame. But social workers aren't well-paid and have massively heavy caseloads involving multiple children (as sadly child neglect is all too common). Its a difficult and stressful job as you say. Why isn't it paid better?

Not only that but SW options are very limited in terms of actions to take;. They can remove a child, OK, but the main option is then foster care and there is a big shortage of foster carers (here in London anyway, not sure about rest of country).
I noticed in this case he wasn't at school for many weeks - (his school was open at that time) but that doesn't seem to have raised any suspicions apart from one phone call to check up on him. Police were assured it was being looked into so didn't keep the file open.

This case is especially heartbreaking as it seemed that he was happy at his grandmother's in the annexe; it was almost by chance that they were living with Tustin when lockdown started. The grandmother begged Hughes to let her have Arthur back - but he said no. Why?????
Whoever mentioned the hairdresser and husband, I agree. I think if more ordinary people had reported this it could have ended differently.
Was it during lockdown when school was only open to some?

Naughtynovembertree · 02/12/2021 21:40

I don't deny or refute that social care and anything to do with children needs more funding but please!!

Sw did go to the house! They didn't examin him properly, they only saw his back and not the shoulder they were shocked in court when they saw the pic!
That's not a funding issue it's an incompetence issue!
They had the time to speak to Arthur and they did so with tustin child present.

The police had the time and resources to go to the house (reluctantly) and they said it was spotless and could find no issues. They reluctantly received the photos from the uncle and he didn't hear again except to say they would be charged if they went around.

Incompetent, stupid and lazy.

Not bloody funding!!

KisstheTeapot14 · 02/12/2021 21:42

@viques

Yes, I was very moved to hear of the minutes' silence in court to honour Arthur. No child should have to suffer as he did, with no one to protect him and take him out of the situation.

How do we stop this happening?
