And if so, what?

Booksmart has some really funny moments.

I tend to find films that are not true comedies funnier, Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost for example is hilarious.

Onceuponatimethen · 28/11/2021 10:05

Bad moms 2 is a Christmas movie so it’s a good time to watch both films now!

Crappykitchen · 28/11/2021 10:06

Also Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty

Bride Wars is much funnier.
There were a few laughs in Bridesmaids but the storyline was honestly 2/10

I actually can't believe no one has mentioned Good Boys. I've watched this so many times and I still laugh out loud.

NigelWithTheBrie79 · 28/11/2021 10:24

What was funny about Muriel's Wedding?!
You're terrible Muriel!"
"You've done a lot for your community Bill. Who told you that? You did."
"...and you three. What a bunch of cocksuckers."

It's definitely not a comedy but it does have its moments.

TSSDNCOP · 28/11/2021 11:12

Not funny. The Hangover is funny. Women doing gross out movies just isn't. Writers can do better than that surely.

I did find the Sister role in Knocked Up very funny.

I'm actually trying to think of women's roles, outside of Victoria Wood and Gavin and Stacey, that are funny.

Maybe they need to be written by women without men even in mind.

RightOnTheEdge · 28/11/2021 11:24

I didn't find any single but of Bridesmaids funny. I thought it was sad.

AbFab maybe. Definitely Derry Girls.

Thank you @NigelWithTheBrie79 spot on. Also Mrs Doyle.

Lois in malcolm in the middle is awesome and so funny.

All the female characters in Friends

Bridesmaids is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Not funny I the slightest.

I thought it was sad in parts as well but I think that was the point? The opening scene where she is pretending to enjoy sex with whatsisname and then gets up to put on a full face of make up before he wakes... it was very well written and well observed but horrible to watch.

The scenes with Melissa McCarthy were extremely funny and the scene where she calls the little girl in the jewellery shop a cunt made me laugh.

But overall, I find it quite an uncomfortable watch as you watch her life slide down the pan. It's basically a tragedy with comic moments.

phonetica · 28/11/2021 13:30

Bridesmaids is very marmite on here but I loved it and thought it was very funny, bar the parts with Matt Lucas and rebel Wilson which I don’t think added anything.

Agree White Chicks is hilarious, more in a ‘so bad it’s good’ sort of way and it received terrible reviews critically. Absolutely loved the 1000 miles song part with Terry crews comedy gold Grin

Classica · 28/11/2021 13:37

Bridesmaids has some funny moments but I don't love it. But I do find that people are way harsher in their feedback at a film that's aimed at women than one that isn't.

goose1964 · 28/11/2021 14:39

Every funny film ever made. It's awful

surreygirl1987 · 28/11/2021 14:45

Both The Internship and The Intern were funny.

amusedbush · 28/11/2021 15:02

I’ve somehow sat through Bridesmaids twice and I didn’t laugh once either time.

Very few things make me laugh out loud (especially when I’m alone, I laugh more easily when watching with someone) but I love Napoleon Dynamite. It’s bizarre but endlessly quotable.

The only TV shows to make me laugh like a drain are Brooklyn 99 and Schitt’s Creek.

Crappykitchen · 28/11/2021 15:09

Yes Schitts Creek, Moira and Alexis are another 2 fab female comedy roles.

Karmagoat · 28/11/2021 15:12

Stepbrothers is much funnier and still makes me laugh everytime I watch it (its me and DS guilty pleasure films along with Billy Madison which is really silly but makes us laugh). Also Anchorman, legend of Ron Burgundy.

surreygirl1987 · 28/11/2021 16:38

It's interesting how different people are isn't it, in terms of what people find funny! I find Bridesmsids utterly hilarious, but some say that they don't see anything funny about it. Conversely, I have never found stand-up comedy funny at all, but others must, considering comedy shows have so many people paying good money for tickets. There are loads of films my brothers say are really funny that I barely even crack a smile at. But Fawlty Towers has me in hysterics. guess we're all just really different.

Onceuponatimethen · 28/11/2021 16:39

Me too @surreygirl1987 - love Bridesmaids

helicopterwonderwoman · 28/11/2021 16:44

Stepbrothers, The Other Cops these made me laugh out loud but the bridesmaids, not so much.
