Calling Rolex Owners

MeridasMum · 23/11/2021 20:29

I've been 'courting' my Rolex contact for well over a year without successfully sourcing the watch I want (there is only one I'm looking for) newly released (ish) and they are few and far between.

Can anyone recommend anything else I can do to expedite it? I can't make one magically appear in store but can I try to get in touch with a head office? I'm desperate for tips.

I was aghast at the hoops you have to jump through to get a Rolex and keeping my contact sweet is really pissing me off!! I'm considering tell her to stuff it but I really really want it!!!

@justswaying an interview to buy a watch?! What did they ask you?

ILoveHuskies · 23/11/2021 21:32

Also what sort of a things do they ask you in the interview ? I'm genuinely intrigued

Glitterkitten24 · 23/11/2021 21:32

Nearly 13k for a watch! Bloody hell!

They are mainly concerned that you're not buying it to resell.
Example - a nautilus can be bought for around 38k (if you can get on the list!) but is resold for 99k.
If you buy a Patek then resell it (so it's then registered to someone else) you'll be blacklisted Grin. Yes it's absolutely ridiculous I know.

justswaying · 23/11/2021 21:39

There are very few watches that appreciate in value, certain Patek Phillipes and certain Rolex's do. It's all very emperors new clothes but if you can afford it and you love it then they make great heirlooms/investments

MeridasMum · 23/11/2021 21:41

@lobsteroll

Which one are you after?
It's the Oyster Perpetual with candy pink face.

TrickyD · 23/11/2021 21:43

We bought two ‘Rolex’ watches in a Turkish market as presents for our young DSs.

We were burgled soon after. Not much taken other than the fakes. I bet the thief got a surprise when he tried to sell them.

justswaying · 23/11/2021 21:44

Have you looked on watchfinder OP?

SuperHeroSweepStake · 23/11/2021 21:46

Thanks for responding. Bonkers how much more second hand watches are. Is that because they're limited editions?

I quite like some of the "feminine" Phillip Pateks, but the prices are just obscene!

PoppyMonth · 23/11/2021 21:47

Is it a new thing? I got one for my 40th, but I don't think DH had to join a waiting list.

Oneforthemoneytwo · 23/11/2021 21:48

Rolex’s actually increase in valuable. They’re a good investment if you can afford one. I got a vintage one for my 40th. It’s the most beautiful thing I ever owned. I don’t wear it that much at the moment as I like my Apple Watch but it has doubled in value since I got it and I could sell it tomorrow if I needed or wanted to. It was an excellent purchase

justswaying · 23/11/2021 21:48

There's a 2021 oyster perpetual with a candy pink face on watchfinder. It's coming in over RRP but they have a Black Friday sale on so a little off....?

Wow

Id be more than happy to be "blacklisted" if I made £60k selling a watch

MN is a different world sometimes honestly 😅

JuneWind · 23/11/2021 21:56

Hi OP, like a pp, I also work for a Rolex AD.

The Oyster Perpetuals have been incredibly popular since they launched. What size were you after in the Candy Pink?

Honestly, some ADs just aren’t receiving the stock, it’s really hard. My advice is to register interest with a few ADs if you can. However, you really need to work on a relationship with someone in the store. If you just drop your name on a waiting list (register of interest etc) and never visit/contact them again, it’s unlikely they’ll get back in touch.

Make an effort to stay in touch (maybe with some gentle pestering!) and if they get the model, they may want to try and get you off their backs!

Honestly though availability is scarce across the country, they’re not just giving them out to everyone else.

icelolly12 · 23/11/2021 21:59

An interview for a watch?! Are you joking? I assumed if you had the cash you could just walk into a shop and buy one. All seems a lot of faff for something that you'll probably be too scared to wear in public in case it gets damaged or stolen.

Phlump · 23/11/2021 21:59

A shortage of Rolex watches. Hilarious.

Feargalthecat · 23/11/2021 22:00

I bought a new oyster perpetual earlier this year for my daughter's 21st birthday.

Registered an interest in the model at two jewellers who interestingly both had a model "put away" for other customers that were already sold but were allowed to try on. We then waited about six weeks and heard nothing.

With her birthday date having passed we went to the next city and went into a different branch of one of the jewellers and spent time chatting to the man. The difference this time is my husband and I wore our Rolexes ( both 20 years old). While chatting he established that both our watches were bought from that chain of jewellers so he established we were previous customers. He really pushed us to buying a datejust but my daughter was adamant she'd wait it out for the oyster perpetual. 'Miraculously" he produced one from stock albeit in the next size up from her preferred choice but we snapped it up and bought it.

I think they really only sell on a history of previous purchases and regardless of if you have cash in your pocket you're profiled as to whether they want to sell to you.

These days the steel oyster perpetual and certainly submariner or Daytona steel are being called unicorn models due to their rarity and you certainly no longer see these in jewellers windows. The only windows you find them is unauthorised dealers at 50% more than the RRP from Rolex.
The submariner my husband paid £1600 for is around £10000 second hand which is baffling.

I know 😫😂 as I say, a different world

This thread is honestly fascinating me

I'm looking for the 36 mm

I have kept in touch and popped in to 'say hello' once or twice.

Im so annoyed with myself as she tried to contact me inFeb as she had one. I am an idiot and had changed my tel no and not let her know yet. So someone in my town I'm wearing MY watch 😂

She has said I'll get one when it comes in ao, from some of these replies, this seems positive

PoppyMonth · 23/11/2021 22:06

I have an Oyster Perpetual. I wear it about once a year because I always wear my Apple watch. Plus I am a bit nervous about scratching it. My husband bought himself one in Barbados in early 2020, and there was absolutely no issue or delay.

icelolly12 · 23/11/2021 22:07

"I have kept in touch and popped in to 'say hello' once or twice."

Sounds like you're being some weirdo Rolex stalker, you're probably blacklisted already Wink

Montecristocount · 23/11/2021 22:07

Just when I thought I’d been in mumsnet so long nothing could surprise me Grin
Interviews, waiting lists and courting contacts?! This is insane and I wish it was a problem keeping me awake at night 😂😂😂

What is the point in owning it if you're too scared to wear it? Genuine question.

You made me laugh then 😂

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, really. I'm not one for 'networking' and creating fake relationships. It's the thing you have to do though.

OP posts:
PoppyMonth · 23/11/2021 22:10

It was a gift for my 40th. I did wear it a lot then. And it's an investment piece which I can pass on. Think my dh would be offended if I sold it and I wouldn't do that.

Not something I would ever have bought myself.
