Calling Rolex Owners

I've been 'courting' my Rolex contact for well over a year without successfully sourcing the watch I want (there is only one I'm looking for) newly released (ish) and they are few and far between.

Can anyone recommend anything else I can do to expedite it? I can't make one magically appear in store but can I try to get in touch with a head office? I'm desperate for tips.

I was aghast at the hoops you have to jump through to get a Rolex and keeping my contact sweet is really pissing me off!! I'm considering tell her to stuff it but I really really want it!!!

Apandemicyousay, I have had my Rolex for 27 years and apart from the first year when it felt a bit precious and I was unsure about wearing it for day to day use I can say that I got over that pretty quick and have worn it everyday ever since.

My watch is my only constant jewellery other than wedding rings and has worked out to be great value on cost per wear over any other personal belongings I have. Although it was a gift it has turned out to be a good investment and it worth much more than original cost although pricier to service than my car (and thats only a second hand mini)

"My husband bought himself one in Barbados in early 2020, and there was absolutely no issue or delay."

Sounds like you just need to pop over to Barbados, op.

@Feargalthecat

'The submariner my husband paid £1600 for is around £10000 second hand which is baffling'

He bought it 20 years ago, aside from it being a desirable watch isn't that just rate of inflation too?

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/11/2021 07:56

@givethatbabyaname me too. Unfortunately I live with a dh who loves watches. My dns the same though, his gf told me one day she went round and he talked about the watch he was going to buy for 4hrs, I told her you get used to it.

His cousins the same, us partners should form a support group.

leafygarden42 · 24/11/2021 08:23

Utterly baffling and ridiculous.

It’s the one thing I want to buy myself for a big birthday in a few years. I don’t do handbags, jewellery but do like a good watch, never knew it was difficult to get one though!

Anonmousse · 24/11/2021 08:33

I work in the jewellery trade (but not watches) and I heard someone recently say that Rolex are saying that shops are not allowed to sell the ones they have on display or in the window, but have to order new when a customer wants one. Confused I've no idea whether that's true or how it works?!! I know there's a long waiting list.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/11/2021 08:37

Rare luxury items are a long game - you rarely can just walk into Hermes and buy a Birkin and usually need a purchase history. If you bought a few bits before you would probably get bumped up the list a bit

Feargalthecat · 24/11/2021 08:52

@Phlump

Perhaps, but finding £1600 20 years ago pre kids was easily doable but finding 10k for a watch now seems a massive stretch.

user1471517095 · 24/11/2021 08:54

Some sarky comments on here, we aren't all rolling in money, but like nice things. I have a Rolex, I bought it in 2019 and I'd saved up for years for it. (Think 20+) A small amount every month put to one side. I have noticed that the used ones have increased greatly in cost since lockdown though . And the Rolex dealership in Leeds has very reduced stock.

leafygarden42 · 24/11/2021 08:59

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Of course you're not love - but you are willing to save up for 20 years to buy a watch - how noble of you. Well Done.

jjj321 · 24/11/2021 10:09

This thread has been very interesting. We both have Omega Seamasters but it sounds as if a Rolex would have been a better investment. Rolexes are beautiful but I don't like the ones with the raised bump over the date.

OhGiveUp · 24/11/2021 11:42

My DH has a solid gold Rolex that was left to him by his father. His father used to send it to Switzerland annually for its service.
We sent it once....I thought my DH would have to sell a kidney to afford the service charge.
It's never been sent since!
That is something else to consider when buying a Rolex, the service or repair costs.
I'll stick to my cheap Timex.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2021 11:48

I have some cracking snides....

queenofarles · 24/11/2021 12:11

my absolute favourite is an old yacht master, must be around 20 years old !

But Blimey I didn’t know how complicated getting patek watches are now, I have the 24 and a complicated chronograph which DH bought when I had our 3rd dc around 6 years ago.

No more watches for me as I haven’t seen anything nicer than what I have Grin
But OP are you getting yours from Authorised retailer or through a reseller ? Confused
It’s quite risky , a lot of the these watches are used for money laundering.

idontlikealdi · 24/11/2021 13:14

Get a Patek instead😀

savvy7 · 24/11/2021 13:20

I've never heard of anything so ridiculous as having to have an interview before you can be sold a watch

gunnersgold · 24/11/2021 13:24

Is it this one?
There is a Rolex dealer in my town , I didn't realise they were hard to get !

MrsBobDylan · 24/11/2021 14:10

I don't think I like Rolex watches. Which isn't a problem because I will never inherit/be gifted/afford one.

Sorted.

MondayYogurt · 24/11/2021 14:12

Why are they so restricted? Is it like having to do the Hermes journey?

queenofarles · 24/11/2021 14:46

MondayYogurt could be to keep exclusivity , brand image , or maybe there is really very little production because of the pandemic.
I read that lots of money is being laundered through fine watches and designer bags.
Specially Hermes and Chanel .
Who knows ! maybe retailers need to do a background check first .

ILoveHuskies · 24/11/2021 14:48

I know 😂😂😂
BlackberrySky · 24/11/2021 14:54

Gosh, who knew buying a watch was such an ordeal? I popped into John Lewis in my lunch break and bought mine. Very pretty and less than £100. Nobody even interviewed me 😂
