What normal household task do you irrationally hate?

Our dishwasher has broken so we're having to wash up. I've remembered that I completely HATE washing up - no idea why. It feels ridiculously primitive to me, like taking clothes down to the stream with stones! We never had a dishwasher growing up so it's not even like something I've always been used to. I'm perfectly happy doing other cleaning up jobs in the kitchen, listening to music and pottering about. Don't even mind doing the bathroom and toilet!

I hate washing up too, but for me it's definitely a sensory thing. I remember having a tantrum aged about 14 when my parents insisted that I washed up. I find it so repulsive. I eventually realised I could tolerate it with gloves on, and wouldn't do it without gloves for several years.

Now I've built up a kind of tolerance I don't bother with gloves anymore but I still hate doing it and put as much in the dishwasher as possible.

Putting washing away… takes forever and there’s always a new sodding pile

oxfordgreen · 11/11/2021 22:04

@crochetcrazy1978

Cleaning grout. It makes me livid for some reason Grin. When I redo the kitchen and bathrooms I will be having no tiles so I never have to clean grout again
Gosh I agree. What's the alternative please.
JuneFromBethesda · 11/11/2021 22:06

Hoovering. I hate it. Which is unfortunate as we have a Labrador who sheds enormous hairy tumbleweeds daily.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/11/2021 22:08

@saywhatwhatnow

Cleaning the shower! So much to clean, so many crevices and different surfaces. I never know where to start or what to use and I always put it off until last. Any tips would be helpful...how do you actually clean a shower cubicle well?
I was wondering this today, as I surveyed our grotty manky shower Blush I’m very good at cleaning the rest of the bathroom but the shower is such an awkward space.
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/11/2021 22:10

Cleaning the fucking bathroom.

The bloody limescaley, mouldy bastard gets dirty again in seconds.

Workinghardeveryday · 11/11/2021 22:14

Bathroom - HATE it. When it’s done it looks ever so pretty. 2 hours later like a bombs gone off and I am sure they wait for me to do it to go in and leave skiddy’s - for me to clean off 😡

MrsJBaptiste · 11/11/2021 22:15

Cooking - hate it.

Ironing - best job by far.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 11/11/2021 22:15

I've realised I actually really dislike most of the other things people have mentioned too! They don't give me the same irrational rage but I still hate them Blush

Blue4YOU · 11/11/2021 22:17

Hoovering- I get hot and sweaty and I fucking hate it. So I only do it when I can’t take it anymore (once a week).
I hate carpet and can’t wait til our house is done so I can get a robot hoover

Tumbleweed101 · 11/11/2021 22:19

Cooking after a long day at work.
Washing up.
Sorting laundry which then sits without the owner bothering to take it to their rooms and so gets muddled again (youngest is 12 so they are all perfectly able).
Putting shopping away.
Cleaning out the fridge.

caringcarer · 11/11/2021 22:19

All of them except cooking. I have a bad back and standing for more than 4 or 5 minutes very painful.

Tumbleweed101 · 11/11/2021 22:21

I don't mind doing any of them if I'm not working full time. Just having to do two jobs drives me loopy (single parent so it all fall to me - work, house, kids etc.)

justustwoandmoo · 11/11/2021 22:21

@Luredbyapomegranate

Taking the bins out, I just.. resent it. Often there is a big full black bin bag in the kitchen, looking at me forebodingly..

It used to be washing up though. My table top dishwasher has given me such happiness.. it’s like having a maid.

Didn't even know there was such a thing as a table top dishwasher until you said!! Am ordering as we speak 😂😂
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/11/2021 22:23

I feel like there should be some kind of swap system going on here. I don't mind hoovering, and I enjoy cooking - but will someone please clean my bastard bathroom for me in exchange??!

Callcat · 11/11/2021 22:26

Hoovering upstairs. I can't explain why I don't mind hoovering downstairs, but hoovering upstairs gives me the rage!

BertieBotts · 12/11/2021 10:28

Get a second hoover, that you keep upstairs.

RobertsRadio · 12/11/2021 12:44

I've got three different vacuum cleaners for a two storey 3 bed house and all of them are covered in dust Halloween Blush.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 12/11/2021 13:20

Taking the stupid little plastic tags off new cartons of milk. It's just.....annoying!

QueefofSheena · 12/11/2021 13:38

Everything. DH loves ironing, I think he’s faulty.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 12/11/2021 14:06

@QueefofSheena

Everything. DH loves ironing, I think he’s faulty.
Send him over here. I'll get him mended. Eventually.
Meruem · 12/11/2021 14:41

Removing all the hair from the hoover brush. We have 2 long haired cats and all of us shed a lot of hair, so I seem to have to do it every couple of weeks. I find it really gross and would rather clean the toilet.

prettyteapotsplease · 12/11/2021 15:35

I hate vacuuming and dusting - there's nothing irrational about it. I'd much rather knit, read or watch telly. The former task I loathe as I had to do this as a child each Saturday morning and it gives me the ick to this day. Also changing the bedclothes and mowing the lawn. I tell myself that one job would only take ten minutes but still find it almost impossible to get started. Shall I go and live in a hotel?

prettyteapotsplease · 12/11/2021 15:39

To @oxfordgreen would tongue-and-groove be an acceptable alternative? It can be painted pretty colours and just needs a wipe down. I've had this in previous houses and it looked great but is not to everyone's taste.

mangomelba · 12/11/2021 15:46

I absolutely hate gardening. It's exhausting, dirty and boring. My garden isn't even that big but it seems to take ages. If I could afford it I would gladly pay a gardener.
