What normal household task do you irrationally hate?

Our dishwasher has broken so we're having to wash up. I've remembered that I completely HATE washing up - no idea why. It feels ridiculously primitive to me, like taking clothes down to the stream with stones! We never had a dishwasher growing up so it's not even like something I've always been used to. I'm perfectly happy doing other cleaning up jobs in the kitchen, listening to music and pottering about. Don't even mind doing the bathroom and toilet!

Emptying and reloading the dishwasher. Collapsing cardboard for the recycling bin.

DidgeDoolittle · 11/11/2021 20:58

I absolutely loathe cleaning the fridge. I only do it if I'm shamed into it.
I don't like changing the beds or ironing either.
On reflection, I hate all of it.

Pyewackect · 11/11/2021 21:04

@TractorAndHeadphones

All of them. Every single one.
Which is why I have a dishwasher and employ a cleaner. Hate cooking too so I leave that to my husband but then I work 60+ hour shift patterns. I’m working all Christmas, again !. I do change the beds though, I get enough practice !.
Sandsnake · 11/11/2021 21:11

Putting my clean clothes away. Don’t mind doing the kids’ stuff but bloody hate doing mine. I huff like a child and try and get away with putting it in a corner on the floor but DH is a fascist and makes me do it properly. Can feel the resentment building just thinking about it Grin.

Also, doing the online food shop. I realise it’s such a privilege to have food delivered to my door but God I hate doing it. It’s because it’s tied in with meal planning / general thinking about what we need. I also do it whilst watching TV and flipping over to things like Mumsnet on my phone so it takes bloody ages!

BertieBotts · 11/11/2021 21:12

I'm with you, washing up is awful, I think it's the fact you have to do it so much and it takes forever and the water invariably slops onto my clothes or feet and it makes your hands feel all wrinkly or you have to wear gloves.

And the sponge gets manky so it doesn't feel sanitary (I use a new cloth each time but DH would use the same sponge for weeks Envy) and if you want to do it properly then I always end up refilling the bowl a few times because otherwise you're washing in dirty water and it doesn't feel effective.

Just a horrible chore in general! Couldn't live without a dishwasher!

Could you buy an extra laundry basket, stick it in that and hide the pile in your wardrobe. It will be out of DH's view and technically using the wardrobe space but you don't have to do anything with it.
FawnFrenchieMum · 11/11/2021 21:14

Pairing the socks up, hate it with a passion. I have a huge pile that’s been staring at me for a week now!

Blindleadingtheblind · 11/11/2021 21:15

@Dizzy1234

Making packed lunches, seriously, takes me 10 minutes but I hate it so much that I put it off and it hangs over me like a black cloud all evening until I force myself to do it
Preach!
noblegreenk · 11/11/2021 21:16

The weekly shop. I detest everything about it. I hate writing the shopping list, going to the supermarket and putting the shopping away.

Sandsnake · 11/11/2021 21:19

@BertieBotts An excellent shout! I’m notorious for putting the clean clothes laid out on my bed back in the basket. But the idea of a secret second wardrobe basket is a very good one. Then I could take my clothes for the day out of a laundry basket, inkeeping with my preferred lifestyle Grin

maddy68 · 11/11/2021 21:19

Unloading the dishwasher

Chunkymenrock · 11/11/2021 21:19

Dusting and cleaning windows.

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 11/11/2021 21:20

Moping the floors pisses me off
Cleaning windows pisses me off so I just use a tissue and wipe them rather than windolene or vinegar. Cannot be bothered

sofakingcool · 11/11/2021 21:20

Emptying the dishwasher. It's the one reason I like DH working from home.

I hate the fucking bastard (dishwasher not DH)

riotlady · 11/11/2021 21:25

Getting more loo roll out of the cupboard for the bathroom. Literally takes like 30 seconds, idk why I resent it so much

lovablequalities · 11/11/2021 21:26

I'd say ironing but I don't do it so 🤷‍♀️

I am equally aghast and amused by the notion of school asking for a model of anything but particularly of the Shard. Our class WhatsApps would erupt with rage! It's not really a household task though. Just a dick move from a weird teacher/school.

Probably washing the windows. I live near the sea and the windy salty water makes the windows opaque. Fortunately the rain is heavy so that sorts it a bit. Just occasionally I hear the voice of my great aunt from beyond the grave giving out to me about my slatternly ways.

MauraandLaura · 11/11/2021 21:27

Putting the washing away Sad

I used to get my boys to do that as a punishment when they had been particularly heinous.
CorpusCallosum · 11/11/2021 21:42

@ragdollmum

Hanging up socks to dry. Having to match them up. Hate it.

I've stopped matching socks. DD is only 2 but she can do it herself if she wants. Mostly she just has odd socks, no one cares!

Also hoovering the stairs. Can't stand it & have been unsuccessful in my attempts to delegate.

saywhatwhatnow · 11/11/2021 21:45

Cleaning the shower! So much to clean, so many crevices and different surfaces. I never know where to start or what to use and I always put it off until last. Any tips would be helpful...how do you actually clean a shower cubicle well?

itswinterfall · 11/11/2021 21:45

Ironing. I. Hate. It.

Galaxyinmypocket · 11/11/2021 21:47

Changing beds
Putting clothes away
Ironing.

Everything else I can cope with.

SilentBob · 11/11/2021 21:48

Putting the dishes away. I'll wash dishes all day long (I regularly do in my day job) but shit me the putting away is not for me.

speakout · 11/11/2021 21:48

Ironing. I. Hate. It.

Psst- let you into a secret- ironing doesn't have to be done.

samwitwicky · 11/11/2021 21:49

Cooking.

And cleaning.
