What normal household task do you irrationally hate?

Our dishwasher has broken so we're having to wash up. I've remembered that I completely HATE washing up - no idea why. It feels ridiculously primitive to me, like taking clothes down to the stream with stones! We never had a dishwasher growing up so it's not even like something I've always been used to. I'm perfectly happy doing other cleaning up jobs in the kitchen, listening to music and pottering about. Don't even mind doing the bathroom and toilet!

All the things, but I’m totally with you on the washing up OP!

We house sat for friends in their very lovely house with no dishwasher a few years ago, I wouldn’t do it again as it felt like the entire week was dominated by the endless washing up, I hate it (& am fully aware that that is a massive first world problem & very minor in the scheme of things - but I do dislike it disproportionately to any more f the other menial & thankless tasks involved with housework! Oddly though I don’t mind loading/unloading the dishwasher).

itsutterlyshit · 11/11/2021 19:51

I hate cleaning in general!
My most hated jobs are putting away clean washing and cleaning bathrooms. Both get left for far too long meaning the take longer to do, vicious circle really

midsomermurderess · 11/11/2021 19:52

Ironing. But then that's not really irrational, is it?

Atozofpoodles · 11/11/2021 19:53

Feeding my dogs

BreakfastOfWaffles · 11/11/2021 19:55

Dusting the bookshelves.

Dizzy1234 · 11/11/2021 20:06

Making packed lunches, seriously, takes me 10 minutes but I hate it so much that I put it off and it hangs over me like a black cloud all evening until I force myself to do it

TractorAndHeadphones · 11/11/2021 20:23

All of them. Every single one.

33goingon64 · 11/11/2021 20:25

I don't mind washing up! Jobs I hate: cleaning shoes, cleaning out the detergent drawer in the washing machine, and the worst - cleaning the oven!

mynameismaybe · 11/11/2021 20:28

Cleaning out the fridge to make room for the big shop. The shame of discovering the "meal prepped" food hidden at the back, that's growing new organisms because I opted for takeaway and beans on toast instead of chicken and veg.
Oh and that one squeezy yoghurt/sauce packet or unsealed lid that's oozed gunk and dripped right down into the crevices and takes forever to get un-sticky. FML.

(This happens at least bi-weekly, I never learn apparently)

hotmeatymilk · 11/11/2021 20:29

The fucking fucking all of it.

Actually, no, my most loathed: taking dry washing up off the drying rack and putting it away. I’d rather build a teeter-totter tower that collapses then breaks all my stuff than even contemplate going near it, and no I’m not doing to dry up as I go.

CatsLikeBoxes · 11/11/2021 20:30

All of them. They're so dull, and you have to do them again and again and again

ScreamingBeans · 11/11/2021 20:31

Emptying the dishwasher cutlery basket.

MrsAvocet · 11/11/2021 20:31

Putting ironed clothes away. I don't actually mind ironing oarticilarly bit I just can't be bothered with putting everything in the drawers and wardrobes, it's so tedious.

Blurberoo · 11/11/2021 20:31

All of them!
All of them, all of them, all of them.
Am scrolling through and thinking yep, hate that, hate that, oh yes that, too…
Tidying, cleaning, sorting, general drudgery. I know it’s all necessary to varying degrees, but it seems like such a waste of precious time! Life is too short for it! If I could outsource the lot, I would.

minou123 · 11/11/2021 20:32

@GrealishHairband

Putting the big shop away. Can not be arsed with it.
Oh god, yes.

I've spent spent time, money and effort to buy the fuckers and NOW they need a place to live in until I need them.
Needy arseholes.

Ragwort · 11/11/2021 20:38

Vacuuming - have spent so much money over the years trying to find the 'perfect' vacuum cleaner ... we live in a town house so at least I now have one on every floor, not that I actually use them much.

ohtsmeagain · 11/11/2021 20:39

Any "practical" school homework for my DC that involves "make a 3D model of...".

I hate them.

I don't know why teachers set them, as it always ends up being parental homework with some arses being competitive about which parent can "help" make the best one.

Over the years we've had make a 3D model of:

The Shard in London.
A working volcano. Three times.
An Ancient Egyptian Boat.
Stonehenge.
A cell of the body with labels.
A famous painting.
A Christmas Scene.
An ecosystem with labels.
And countless more.

Just the thought of them gets my heckles up.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 11/11/2021 20:41

Bathrooms
Dusting skirting boards and the ceiling edges.
Stairs
Putting wet clothes on the airer and taking dry clothes off it.
Dusting blinds
Washing windows

Needspace21 · 11/11/2021 20:42

Couldn't agree with you more. Washing up I hate too. Don't mind everything else.

JSL52 · 11/11/2021 20:42

@SickAndTiredAgain

Drying up. It’s a job that will literally do itself
Don't bother
Heruka · 11/11/2021 20:43

Not exactly a household task but posting things. I just cannot do it. The post office is not handy and so things that need returned or presents sent abroad etc, it just doesn’t get done. It’s like a phobia or something!!

crochetcrazy1978 · 11/11/2021 20:47

Cleaning grout. It makes me livid for some reason Grin. When I redo the kitchen and bathrooms I will be having no tiles so I never have to clean grout again

hotmeatymilk · 11/11/2021 20:49

Sitting here realising I’ve lived in this house 3 years and don’t think I’ve ever dusted a skirting board or a ceiling Blush

BeyondOurReef · 11/11/2021 20:50

All of them. 🤣

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 11/11/2021 20:54

Hoovering, though it's much less bad with a cordless vacuum cleaner - it's the cord getting caught on stuff/not being long enough/coming out of the plug socket that I most hate.

Also cleaning the inside of windows, especially the window sills. I seem cursed always to live in houses with loads of fiddly small panes, not a nice big picture window.
