What normal household task do you irrationally hate?

Our dishwasher has broken so we're having to wash up. I've remembered that I completely HATE washing up - no idea why. It feels ridiculously primitive to me, like taking clothes down to the stream with stones! We never had a dishwasher growing up so it's not even like something I've always been used to. I'm perfectly happy doing other cleaning up jobs in the kitchen, listening to music and pottering about. Don't even mind doing the bathroom and toilet!

Taking piles of clean things out the airing cupboard and leaving them on beds to be put away by the owner.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 11/11/2021 19:19

I don't like ironing very much either but it's quite easy to just not do it very much at all. Washing up is very demanding! It has to be done and I resent it! I also hate putting clothes away.

I've said that if I ever get to design a kitchen from scratch I'd have 2 dishwashers so I'd never even have to unload, let alone wash up.

Cleaning the floors, both vacuuming and steam cleaning the kitchen floor. Hence I don’t do it as often as I should.

KnobJockey · 11/11/2021 19:25

Hoovering the stairs

DaisyDozyDee · 11/11/2021 19:29

@KnobJockey

Hoovering the stairs
This is mine too.
minniep · 11/11/2021 19:30

Not really cleaning related as it's a food thing but I absolutely and utterly despise peeling potatoes. I swear to god I feel like crying if I have to do it. And I have young DC who all love mash and will happily eat it so I should make it more often but I find it soul destroying.

anchorbuttercakes · 11/11/2021 19:30

Emptying the dishwasher .

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 11/11/2021 19:32

miniep frozen mash is your friend. My eldest DC actually likes it more than when I go to the trouble of making it. It's a bit of a running joke in our house.

Dusting. Changing the beds. Most household tasks, actually.

Keladrythesaviour · 11/11/2021 19:35

Unstacking the dishwasher. But I put that down to running a café for two years where I was constantly loading and unloading dishwashers.
I think I feel like if I'm going to do it, I should be bloody paid for it Grin

househuntinginthesouth · 11/11/2021 19:36

Putting freshly ironed or washed clothes away. I actually don't mind ironing and laundry etc, but putting all the clothes away gets on my nerves even though it's literally just walking to bedrooms and putting them in a drawer or wardrobe and it's probably the easiest bit of the whole laundry process.

Prattypitel · 11/11/2021 19:39

I love doing the washing up,but absolutely hate dusting.unless there is quite a visible layer of dust I will leave it.My mum used to dust every day.what is the point of wiping a shelf every day???

TurnUpTurnip · 11/11/2021 19:41

Love washing up? I can get not disliking it but love doing it? 😂

Blindleadingtheblind · 11/11/2021 19:42

I spend my life washing up but I dont mind it.

Cannot stand making lunches for the next day - even my own. I keep asking the kids would they not prefer school dinners, especially with the cold weather coming but they love packed lunches so they flat out refuse. It's honestly the last thing I want to be doing after a full day at work and doing all the other household tasks when I get in. Can't wait til they are old enough to make their own.

SquirrelFan · 11/11/2021 19:43

Sweeping the kitchen floor. Why do chairs and tables have so many legs?

Watto1 · 11/11/2021 19:43

Emptying the food waste caddy in the kitchen. Especially as I seem to have a dodgy roll of compostable bags at the moment which all split as I’m emptying it.

Why are you bothering to peel the spuds?! Leave them unpeeled

Also, get frozen mash pellets, they’re the best

PivotPivotPivottt · 11/11/2021 19:44

Washing the dishes
Hanging washing up to dry
Putting away dry washing
Putting shopping away
Bathing the kids
Changing the beds

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/11/2021 19:46

Peeling potatoes. Hate it.

CurryLover55 · 11/11/2021 19:46

Not really irrational but I hate dealing with the tide of clutter! DD12 is the worst & doesn’t seem to know what a bin is for! We end up with piles everywhere!

Bonbon21 · 11/11/2021 19:46

ALL OF THEM.

kindler · 11/11/2021 19:48

Bathrooms! I don't mind most other chores but bathrooms I hate.

LoveComesQuickly · 11/11/2021 19:48

Ironing and hoovering. I almost never do either so maybe they're not actually as bad as I think!

Prattypitel · 11/11/2021 19:49
