New branch just opened near us. Tesco is getting more expensive so thought I'd give Aldi a go. Any recommendations of things to try?

Oh yes, as pp said, cornflakes are fine and only 50p.

userxx · 15/10/2021 21:20

@Floogal

The Romeo bars. Knock off Bounty bars but they actually taste better

They do! Bloody lovely.

OooohAhhhh · 19/10/2021 15:20

Avid Aldi shopper, love it, but.....
What's going on with the dark soy sauce there? It's all sealed etc so it's not a faulty bottle, but it doesn't have a shaker on it, so when you pull the plastic ring off and go to use it, nearly all the bottle comes pouring out!
I won't be buying it again from there Confused

Guacamole001 · 19/10/2021 16:10

Rose facial oil.
Mince pies.

SpeckyWithTheGoodHair · 19/10/2021 19:22

Toro loco red (the organic one with the green label) and their mini brioche.

bonfireheart · 19/10/2021 20:09

Pine nuts .
Every other shop charges ridiculous prices for nuts, except Aldi.

Nsky · 19/10/2021 20:23

Almost everything, except their bread rolls taste soda like.
I don’t buy cleaning stuff as bu eco bio d, and oranges, very few things I think you’ll dislike

Their butter with big flakes of salt

Irridescantshimmmer · 19/10/2021 20:35

Chocolate chip cookies
Malted milk biscuits

😄

@OooohAhhhh I thought exactly the same when I opened a new bottle this evening, my noodles were nearly swimming in it!

DP also tells me that their anti bac wipes are not nearly as “juicy” as dettol ones and the crumpets don’t rival Warburtons but apart from that we love most things.

YungDumbThrills · 19/10/2021 21:21

Clotted cream rice pudding - it's absolutely delicious

PeriChristmas · 19/10/2021 21:27

@NatriumChloride

Oooh watching with interest - it’s the same here - brand new branch. I took a very very quick look and picked up some gorgeous hand soaps, OP! I’ve forgotten the name of them but the scents - orange & bergamot and rhubarb & rose - were just gorgeous!
Ooo noted!
jocktamsonsbairn · 20/10/2021 00:02

@nancybotwinbloom

Most of it actually.

The florentines are amazing 🤩

Oh man I was trying to forget about the florentines! They are amazing! I eat them by the box!
userxx · 20/10/2021 12:46

They do a specially selected chicken kiev - delicious.

altforvarmt · 20/10/2021 13:07

The blond chocolate honeycomb is amazing.

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/10/2021 13:32

It all sounds lovely!

I’ve got an Aldi near me but because I’ve used Ocado for nearly 20 years, I’ve got a bit lazy about supermarket shopping.

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/10/2021 13:36

Are their strawberries good? I find them so tasteless lately from other places.

onlyhereforthefood · 20/10/2021 13:45

Their fake greggs frozen products!
Their ready meals are pretty decent, for ready meals.
The vegan cauliflower sausages
Cheese
Yoghurts
Chocolate and crisps are great

userxx · 20/10/2021 13:52

The bean one is lovely.

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/10/2021 13:53

Is it Aldi where they have that fast/aggressive checkout process and you have to keep up? Or is that Lidl?

DentalWorries · 20/10/2021 14:02

@bendmeoverbackwards I think they’re both like that. Thankfully our Aldi has recently implemented self checkouts which you can use trolleys with which has genuinely made me shop there more as I can’t cope with the packing when I’m doing a big shop and there’s only me to pack!

Loopielu · 20/10/2021 14:12

Frozen tempura fish burgers. Chicken and mango flatbread pizzas. The chilled sticky toffee pudding is divine! Their chicken soup and mushroom soup are both as good as Heinz in my opinion.

Both those stores prefer it if you just chuck all of your shopping back into your trolley then move to the long bench at the front of the store to do your own packing.

I often take one or two of those big rubber buckets with handles, throw all my shopping in then just put them in the boot.
