New branch just opened near us. Tesco is getting more expensive so thought I'd give Aldi a go. Any recommendations of things to try?

Chocolate butter biscuits 😍

Hayup · 15/10/2021 19:21

I've always found their skincare to be excellent value and pretty much indiscernable from their more expensive counterparts.

Their nappies were also great for DD.

Teddansononmyown · 15/10/2021 19:23

Sea salt dark chocolate bars. They're mini size so perfect for small snack (but you end up eating all 5 in one go)

Their version of pop chips and Candy kittens sweets. Love the pineapple ones.

The Lugana and Poulle Fume wines are generally very good

Antipasti

Candles are great, as are the diffusers

I can't get on with the skincare, but all my friends rave about it.

Straight to wok noodles
Cold pressed rapeseed oil
Calabrese Salami pizza (frozen)

sofakingcool · 15/10/2021 19:36

@FrangipanFlower

The cheese and onion crisps in the black specially selected range are amazing, kalamata olives, veggie sausages in the chilled section, frozen prawns, chocolate, orange and mango squash, big tubs of Greek yogurt, protein yoghurts esp. the passion fruit and mango flavour, packs of nuts cashews, almonds etc work out so much cheaper than Tesco, I could go on and on
Our Aldi doesn't stock the cheese and onion crisps anymore 😞
Violetparis · 15/10/2021 19:38

Love the Lime and Basil Jo Malone style candle. The Orange and Bergamot handwash is lovely too.

DandyHighwayWoman · 15/10/2021 19:38

Wine, beer, liqueurs etc recommendations would be much appreciated.
I have enjoyed both the strawberry and the white chocolate cream Liqueurs.
Their flavoured gin liqueurs have also been good.
Any recommendations for red or white wines?

InFiveMins · 15/10/2021 19:41

The mushroom risotto they do in a packet. Best risotto I've ever tasted!

Tittyfilarious81 · 15/10/2021 19:47

Almost everything I absolutely love the triple cooked beef dripping chips 😋

didireallysaythat · 15/10/2021 19:47

What's the name of the Greek yoghurt everyone is raving about? I got a large pot of Greek style yoghurt and it was runnier than natural yoghurt, perfectly fine but not thick and creamy.....

InFiveMins · 15/10/2021 19:47

The halloumi chips are very nice too

GuyFawkesDay · 15/10/2021 19:52

Their wine is great, pay £6+ a bottle and it's as good as twice the price at Sainsbos.

Groovy biscuits
Their lotus biscoff biscuit ripoffs
Rosemary crackers
Tempura chicken pieces
Mueller crunch corner ripoffs
Gin
Frozen onions, peppers

Mufflette · 15/10/2021 20:02

Part baked bread
Sea salt dark chocolate and the pretzel milk chocolate especially
Mint mini vienetta on sticks
Sea salt or rosemary crackers
Big tubs of peanut butter
Almond butter
Rapeseed oil

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 15/10/2021 20:10

Lacura Caviar night cream and this bread which is the incredible but I suspect only available in Ireland.

Floogal · 15/10/2021 20:13

The Romeo bars. Knock off Bounty bars but they actually taste better

IsThePopeCatholic · 15/10/2021 20:41

Wine

FrankiesKnuckle · 15/10/2021 20:53

Organic Prosecco and the Greek assyrtiko white wine.

Mighty peas - frozen peas with chilli and mint are really nice.

Chocolate orange 'magnums'

Kids smoothies

Tiramiwho · 15/10/2021 20:57

My very fussy cat won't lower herself to eat Gourmet, but she loves the Aldi rip-off version 😹

Auroreforet · 15/10/2021 20:58

Their Kalamata olives are brilliant.
Can't get them in my French Aldi. So frustrating.
Also you may find the scented hanging sticks for the Christmas tree, they're divine.

TheGriffle · 15/10/2021 20:58

Chocolate ganache with salted caramel. In the chilled section in a little Gu style pot. 99p and is the most delicious thing in the world once you take the rancid bitter chocolate covered cacao beans off the top.

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/10/2021 20:59

Love Aldi. Their tiger bread is lovely, red fox Red Leicester cheese, dusted basa and sole, crunchy Somerset cheddar, apple strudel, medallion steak, pumpkin seed and cheese crisp bread, skinny meatballs, pesto, while chorizo, Roquefort, topaz blue gin, Danpak butter (just like lurks, 1/3 the price), buffalo mozzarella, edamame bean stir fry, beetroot burgers…..

Could go on and on. Whatever you normally like, try theirs.

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/10/2021 20:59

Lurpak, not lurks 🤣

Monkeytennis97 · 15/10/2021 21:03

Like their cornflakes- not too dissimilar to Kellogg's.

Don't like norpak their version of lurpak.

Papergirl1968 · 15/10/2021 21:10

Their bread, milk, eggs etc are fine. Some of the bread rolls I find a bit dry.
The fake Pringles are better - less salty - than the real thing.
Croquet potatoes are nice.
Baked beans are fine, but I didn't like the little sausages in them.
The frozen or chilled breaded cod is fine. A pack of steaks can be good value and I like the free range chickens and chicken thighs. They had big packs of sausages which were great but I think those were a summer BBQ promotion.
Cooked meats are good, and I buy the £1.99 big packs of ham, chicken or turkey trimmings for the pets.
Love the packs of four big cookies from the bakery, and the tubs of cakes. I bought a frozen strawberry cheesecake for about 65p which was lovely.
If you have cats, the Aldi version of Dreamies - think they're called Pawsome Pockets - go down well.

Galaxyinmypocket · 15/10/2021 21:11

Beef and horseradish crinkle cut crisps (large share bag)
Tex mex dip
Yoghurts

Wipes and nappies
Lacura face wash.
Cat litter and food.
Mini bottles of juice (fruit shoot style)
Butter beans/carrots etc, their tinned stuff is good value and tasty.
Shortbread
Their version of frosties.
Carmel shortbread slices.
Chocolate filled waffles
Birthday cake (big enough and always tasty)
