What did you do with your wedding dress?

I have separated from my husband over 20 years + and I've always had the dress hung up in its bag in the wardrobe. But I was having a clear out today and I was wondering what to do with it.

I don't fit in it now Blush
Regardless of whether you are still married or not, what did you do with yours?

First one was dyed and reworn, second one is still worn quite often and when not in use it’s displayed on a mannequin.

MrsColon · 14/09/2021 18:56

Gave it to my sister, who altered it (to look different) and wore it for her wedding.

She's going to make it into a christening gown for her DC.

Bontanics · 14/09/2021 18:59

I still wear it occasionally.

My mum cut it up to use as dusters 😂

MsTSwift · 14/09/2021 19:03

Have mad parties with female friends where we all wear them and get drunk. It’s actually really fun.

KKTGW · 14/09/2021 19:05

Mine lived in its bag in the loft for 13 years until we split up.

I donated it a year or so later to the textiles department at the school where I work.

cushioncovers · 14/09/2021 19:08

It stayed in a box in the loft for years then when I moved house after my divorce it went in the skip along with all the other rubbish.

I know someone who had one of these made and my cousin had hers made into a christening gown fo their daughters

xprincessxjanetx · 14/09/2021 19:18

Nothing, it just hangs in my wardrobe. I'm far too big for it now and it isn't even a 'proper' wedding dress. It's a white summer dress I bought from next as I wanted it to be really simple.

Ttbhappy · 14/09/2021 19:20

Wrapped in acid free tissue paper and in a box and if my daughter wants to wear it one day she can

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 14/09/2021 19:20

I've been wondering what to do with mine too.

I paid a fortune to have it sent off for professional cleaning and boxing. Then it's sat on top of a wardrobe for years. I got divorced a few years ago and it won't fit me when I remarry in the next couple of years. No idea what to do with it.

Twizbe · 14/09/2021 19:23

Mines in the loft in a special box. Been married 10 years and not sure what I'll do with it long term.

YoComoManzanas · 14/09/2021 19:27

Ooh thats just given me the idea. I might repurpose mine into some silk pillow cases or something.

Heatherjayne1972 · 14/09/2021 19:35

It’s in the loft. In a bin bag. Probably mouldy by now
Can’t say I’m bothered

MeredithMae · 14/09/2021 19:43

My (£1500) dress went to the dry cleaners then to charity! I loved it, but it had been so stressful finding it, getting it, altering it, etc and it cut me to bits on the day so I couldn't see the back of it quick enough.

I can't remember the charity but they gave gowns to brides who had a terminal illness or their soon to be husbands did.

SkylarFerris · 14/09/2021 19:57

I saw an advert by a student artist and donated it to them. They ran in a race where people throw coloured paint at you. She displayed it as one of her final pieces.

SkylarFerris · 14/09/2021 19:58

I wish my mum had kept hers. She made hers in the 70s. It had a hood instead of a veil.

WeAreTheHeroes · 14/09/2021 20:03

I gave mine to a charity shop with a wedding dress department. Had the dress longer than the husband.

Chotuladoo · 14/09/2021 20:04

I have 2 bridal sarees (as is the fam tradition) one I can wear again but the other languishes in a vac bag thingy. I have no idea what to do with it so there it stays. I am not at all crafty or Id have made it into a cushion cover or something.

PurplePosies · 14/09/2021 20:05

Sold it not long after the wedding. I was lucky enough to get a stunning designer dress that cost a small fortune. I wanted someone else to have the chance to wear it without the same price tag.

I wanted to donate here. I got married 2 5yrs years ago and no ones ever got back to me.Sad

BobsBurgersisthebest · 14/09/2021 20:11

Mines is in my wardrobe.

Iamblossom · 14/09/2021 20:30

Mine and it's matching bolero jacket is in a bag hanging in the loft. It is a deep crimson red as I chose a white one then had it dyed to my colour of choice so quite niche I guess?

It's too big for me now but I would love to wear it again to something, it was the most expensive outlay of our whole wedding bar the food and drink.

Iamblossom · 14/09/2021 20:31

should say it was 20.5 years ago now

Charlieandlola · 14/09/2021 20:31

I put it in the ragbag for recycling
