What do you order at an Indian Restaurant?

I’m going to an Indian restaurant next week and ALWAYS order a biriyani or tikka masala.

Please give me some different suggestions by telling me what YOU order?

I like a LITTLE bit of spice, but not lots!

Paneer, if you've not had it before is like a milder halloumi, so it doesn't go melty like cheddar etc.

It's often marinaded in spices and served crispy or maybe unmarinded but in a spinach sauce like saag aloo but with paneer. I like it a lot and often have it.

I really love the starter prawn puri, but I don't need a starter so I'm trying to recreate it as a main meal. Going to try prawn dopiaza with veg paratha next time

When eating at an Indian restaurant I almost always start with the intention of taking home a good portion of my main course if I'm eating in a group where the others want starters.

Many starters, like the prawn puri, are so substantial that they're almost a meal in themselves, so if I get that, I'll either get it for my main, or just eat a small portion of my main, and take some home to enjoy the next day.

Oh yes Thali is fantastic.

Very grumpy now as I don’t think there’s any chance I’m going to have a restaurant meal anytime soon.

I try to have something different every time, I usually choose of the specialities menu if there is one, medium heat at the hottest.

Chilli paneer/tandoori paneer and s few rotis. Bhajis & dips to start- maybe an aubergine side 😋

But without the squeaky saltiness of halloumi. I love paneer, but it tastes of nothing without being marinaded or sauced in something with a lot of flavour.

I love a dahl makhani, but if I have meat, it’ll be a chicken nawabi or chasni.

I love Bombay Aloo.

Usually go for tiki masala however I’m pregnant and I think my current craving is spicy because I’m dying to try a spicier curry

I once ordered a Ceylon chicken curry when out for an Indian meal. It was very nice and hotter than my friends Madras! I don't really do hot curries but this was really nice. Acidic but also slightly sweet due to the coconut. Definitely with peshwari naan and coconut rice.

First Indian meal since this thread started and I did indeed have the chilli garlic chicken. It was bloody lovely! Thanks for the recommendation.
