What do you order at an Indian Restaurant?

I’m going to an Indian restaurant next week and ALWAYS order a biriyani or tikka masala.

Please give me some different suggestions by telling me what YOU order?

I like a LITTLE bit of spice, but not lots!

I like pathia which is quite sour and sweet (uses lime and tamarind I think). It’s hotter than a biriyani but still not super spicy. Dhansak is not usually very spicy either, it’s thickened with lentils.

NEE1302 · 12/09/2021 21:53

Vegetable bhuna, mushroom pilau, garlic naan and saag aloo side. Not keen on meat in curries...

Ninkanink · 12/09/2021 21:54

I’m hungry now 😭😭

Nomoreusernames1244 · 12/09/2021 21:56

I like a karahi.

Loved chicken shashlik but not had since turning completely veggie. Will have a look for paneer shashlik!

ViceLikeBlip · 12/09/2021 21:57

Tell the waiter what you usually have, and ask for something comparable but different?

SeriouslyISuppose · 12/09/2021 21:58

If you live near anywhere that does Chinese-Indian fusion, Szechuan Paneer and Amli Mojo, if somewhere more standard Dahl Puri, Chanda Masala, Sag Aloo. I still dream of the Paneer Pakhora of a place we used to go to.

Goneback2school · 12/09/2021 21:59

Butter chicken
Pilau rice
Peshwari naan is my go to order.

BlackTee40 · 12/09/2021 22:00

Poppadoms
Mango chutney
Mint sauce
Onion raita
Lime pickle

Onion bhaji
King prawn puree

Lamb curry or madras
Pilau rice

Plain naan bread.

I do share the puree with my dh and get 2 meals out of the rest of it 🙈

itsutterlyshit · 12/09/2021 22:02

Nothing what so ever to do with duck, a rather acquired taste

Plump82 · 12/09/2021 22:05

Paneer dopiaza and a garlic naan.
@Bookaholic73 dopiaza basically means two onion.

DominicRaabsTravelAgent · 12/09/2021 22:06

Last time I went I had Lamb Sagwalla and Mushroom Pilau abs it was so enjoyable.

MummyJ12 · 12/09/2021 22:10

Lamb chops
Chicken chaat
Chicken tikka vindaloo (too spicy maybe)?!
Chicken shashlik
Chicken chilli balti
Butter chicken
Saag aloo
Peshwari naan
Coconut rice

We eat a lot! And a lot of chicken!! But that’s our order for a family of four.

MotorwayDiva · 12/09/2021 22:15

See if they will do a thali, I think that's the name it's a mix of a few of the chefs specials.

EatSprayGlove · 12/09/2021 22:20

It varies depending on the place. Prawn puri to start and a dopiaza is a starting point for me. Veggie places I will order a chilli paneer with peshwari naan. Yum

VeniVidiWeeWee · 12/09/2021 22:22

@bookaholic73

Forgive me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but Bombay duck is dried fish and hasn't been readily available for a number of years.

WeAllHaveWings · 12/09/2021 22:23

Kharhi, balti, madras. All medium strength and tasty

SisterAgatha · 12/09/2021 22:25

Tandoori salmon is a beautiful thing.

I get a chicken or duck tikka and vegetable curry now that I eat low carb.

DH gets a gohst or a prawn ceylon .

Theimpossiblegirl · 12/09/2021 22:26

My mouth is watering reading this thread.

I usually have a jalfrezi or Naga chicken, then split a mushroom rice and garlic naan.

Next time I'm going for chilli garlic chicken though, sounds good.

mimi14 · 12/09/2021 22:26

Chicken balti, vegetable rice, saag aloo, onion bhaji and peshwari naan. Every single time 😍

diamondpony80 · 12/09/2021 22:27

Lamb saag methi is my go to. But we each get something different and share them around. DH always gets the tandoori mixed grill with tarka daal on the side.

thetesdybears · 12/09/2021 22:29

Butter chicken. Usually a specialty, oh it's heaven quite a creamy sauce with a bit of tang and a little bit of spice. Paired with rice and Peshawari naan.

Also chicken chasni but sure it's a Glasgow/Scottish curry. It's a sweet and tangy sort of curry delicious too.

Also like a boring korma and Rogan josh.

stealingbeauty · 12/09/2021 22:32

Always a peshwari naan.

King prawn tandoori
Bombay potatoes
Chana masala

ew1990 · 12/09/2021 22:35

I have a vindaloo

Or murghh massalam (sp?)
