err, let's not knock Canada, that's where Emma was born.

@Unfashionable

Is this a good time to point out that Fernandez has won three setters against Osaka, Kerber, Svitolina & Sabalenka to get to the final, while Emma has beaten Bencic plus a bunch of nobodys....
Dreadful isn't it, a Briton winning on the international stage, sorry it's offended you. Once you've finished all your excuses, the name on the trophy is all that matters.
blameitonthecaffeine · 11/09/2021 23:43

I don't know viques I think she'll be in with a very good shot. Tough ask in an Olympic year though and with it being US open rather than Wimbledon. But she's definitely caught everyone's attention. I can't see anything else on Facebook tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2021 23:43

I hope we see much more of both of them.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 11/09/2021 23:44

@whyisitsohardtochangemyname haha me too just googling ‘tennis lessons north west’ right now 😂😂😂

mydogisthebest · 11/09/2021 23:44

@Antsinyourpanta

I hope Piers Morgan eats his words!!
Yes me too, along with all the others that slagged Emma off. I believe it was all men that did so.

She played brilliantly. I liked Fernandez until she started that smirking and then had a tantrum about Emma needing medical assistance. Blood was running down her leg for goodness sake

Kendodd · 11/09/2021 23:45

I don't know what McEnroe or Morgan have said...
Will have a Google but if anyone has links that would be brilliant!
I want to know as well.

flowerycurtain · 11/09/2021 23:45

That was amazing. Absolute class.

She is so composed. At 18 I freaked out having to stand up in front lf my a level class let alone a crowd of 20 000 plus a world tv audience.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2021 23:46

It wasn't a tantrum, it was pressure leaking through.

MinesAMassiveSalad · 11/09/2021 23:46

Nice to see Virginia Wade getting a shout out. And Tim Henman.

derxa · 11/09/2021 23:46

Won’t get her sports personality of the year though. There will be some golfer/ football player / racing driver/ snooker player with a penis (and no personality) standing in line.
Don't be so bloody silly

Anjo2011 · 11/09/2021 23:47

Wonderful result and great tennis from both ladies. The stadium is nowhere near as classy as Wimbledon and neither is the prize giving but that doesn’t matter ! Well done ladies and amazing tennis Emma, what a wonderful role model for girls.

Sakura7 · 11/09/2021 23:47

Absolutely incredible, probably the greatest sporting achievement I've seen in my lifetime. I really can't think of anything that compares to a qualifier winning a grand slam at 18.

She will walk the SPOTY vote, though that's only an afterthought really.

BrilloPaddy · 11/09/2021 23:47

What a match.

Not sure I liked Fernandez's attitude at times though...... reminded me of Serena Williams and not in a good way. But then you have to remember that they're both so young. Exceptional talent and you could watch with the sound on because neither were screeching and grunting. Happy days.

BornFreee · 11/09/2021 23:48

She's 8/1 odds on to win SPOTY so yes she will win it

Furries · 11/09/2021 23:48

That was absolutely brilliant! First time I’ve enjoyed a women’s tennis match in quite some time.

Looking forward to seeing many more matches between them in the future.

And completely agree with PPs - the absence of grunting was a very welcome change.

everythingcrossed · 11/09/2021 23:48

I hope Piers Morgan has his tongue firmly in his cheek

I said she needed to toughen up after she quit.
She toughened up.
The words you’re seeking are ‘Thanks Piers’.

Rollerbird · 11/09/2021 23:48

Piers said she needs to toughen up, and mcenroe said 'it all got a bit much'
(after Wimbledon)

I'm watching Channel 4 + 1 and my heart's still thudding!! I'm never allowed to watch a sporting event live if I;m interested in the result, kiss of death.

SirChenjins · 11/09/2021 23:49

Won’t get her sports personality of the year though. There will be some golfer/ football player / racing driver/ snooker player with a penis (and no personality) standing in line

Everything crossed that you’re wrong, it would be a travesty if she didn’t get it - she absolutely deserves it. What a star! Star

MinesAMassiveSalad · 11/09/2021 23:49

I had said a few points before that it was great that Fernandez was still smiling and not losing confidence. She clearly does smile a fair bit on court. I like that!

RubySlippers123 · 11/09/2021 23:50

What a superstar! 🌟💫

MinesAMassiveSalad · 11/09/2021 23:50

I commented on tg lack of grunting!
Most welcome.
