Emma has won the US Open as a qualifier, in only her second Slam, without dropping a set or playing a top 10 opponent. You absolutely could not make that up.

What I find so impressive is how she came back from what happened at Wimbledon and went on to win a grand slam in the same season

Fernandez behaved quite badly with the smirking and the tantrum. Just amazing that Emma has won wirh no family there and the crowd behind her opponent as an absolute unknown before this year. It’s staggering.

Absolutely amazing achievement from Emma, and a great match!

I felt very sorry for Fernandez, it was a very tense ending , and I think her inexperience and youth didn’t help. There was nothing Emma could do, she had to have medical attention, she was bleeding.

Wow getting the trophy from Billie Jean as well.

They couldn’t get visas. Emma had her return tickets booked , did t expect to get past the qualifiers.

She mentioned either just before or just after the semi-final that they needed some kind of waiver to travel to the US and there was insufficient time to organise it, so they couldn’t be there.

She was fabulous wasn’t she!
