Very painful abscess on inner thigh developed Sunday evening, saw Dr Monday morning, she prescribed antibiotics which I don’t think is making any difference - red area has grown over last 3 days.

This spot came up today and it getting larger. Do I pop it?

Thanks everyone for the support!

It’s better than it was, but still very sore (and it’s unbearable walking)!
Saw GP today, have been prescribed another week of antibiotics! He advised no creams or coverings and to return next Monday if still painful, in which they’ll send me to A&E with a letter.

It does look much better, and less 'angry' than before. I think the antibiotics are now getting to work!

I don't understand what your GP is playing at. It needs to be lanced, and the core removed. Otherwise it will keep coming back. That is a boil and I've had a few of those. The core needs removing. Leaving it like that is a recipe for disaster.

If you can't walk, something really needs to be done about this now. I agree, I don't understand your GP's logic at all.

Something is being done, the OP has more antibiotics and it's looking loads better so is healing. maybe it's not the sort of cyst/boil to have a core that needs cutting out?

The point is that it might be looking better, primarily because it currently isn't draining and the surface skin is beginning to heal, but it's still so painful that OP can't walk. That suggests that things are going on below the surface that the antibiotics are not dealing with. After more than a week, they should be making more of a difference.

Eugh you should of seen the one on my mother the doctors kept fobbing her off untill she had not one but two holes just angry and oozing. 4 weeks of antibiotics she had in the end and I was the lucky person getting photo updates.
