Abscess (pic), should I pop it?

Very painful abscess on inner thigh developed Sunday evening, saw Dr Monday morning, she prescribed antibiotics which I don’t think is making any difference - red area has grown over last 3 days.

This spot came up today and it getting larger. Do I pop it?

That looks like it's going to go at any moment. I would put a warm flannel on it to help it disperse.

Try not to pop it. (Easier said than done I know, most of the time I can't help myself when they're like this)

I would also use a pen to draw round the redness

TokyoTen · 08/09/2021 21:48

Personally I'd pop it and make sure I got the ingrown hair out - it will probably ly soon heal afterwards.

Tistheseason17 · 08/09/2021 21:50

Hot compress will bring it out!

Looks totally bursty but not an abscess, more an ingrown hair that's got infected.

FuckingFucksicles · 08/09/2021 21:51

Oh Id be right in about that trying my best to pop! Where is this sporner corner people speak of?

WanderingTrolley1 · 08/09/2021 21:51

I’m so tempted to pop it but worried about what shall befall me…

Pop it! Pop it!

IdblowJonSnow · 08/09/2021 21:56

It looks like it's going to blow very soon!

I'd pop it if it were mine but not saying you should!!

If you do, keep it very clean and sterilise everything.

Sounds like it could be cellulitis so keep a veryclose eye on the tracking op.

HermioneWeasley · 08/09/2021 21:58

Definitely pop it, it will help things along. Hot flannel or do it after a hot bath/shower. Clean hands and keep it clean.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/09/2021 21:58

That red area is enormous, go back to the GP. If it's really sore pop it (hot compress and magnesium sulphate first of course).

Here you go. You’re welcome Grin
DSArnott · 08/09/2021 22:04

I would have pierced it with a sterilised needle, let it drain (without squeezing or pressing on it) and drenched it repeatedly with Natrasan spray.

choosername1234 · 08/09/2021 22:06

It will probably heal faster with the pus out, it's got to go somewhere after all? You might find the pain lessens after the pressure is released

userxx · 08/09/2021 22:07

Hot flannel pressed down quite hard, heat as hot as you can take it.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 08/09/2021 22:08

Pop itttt! And take photos, lots of photos.

Has there ever been a live sporn thread? Grin

ememem84 · 08/09/2021 22:08

Doooo it

hollyberrytree · 08/09/2021 22:08

Get in a warm bath, it looks ready to blow!

Fere · 08/09/2021 22:08

Are you feeling OK otherwise? Not tired or losing weight?

Whitegrenache · 08/09/2021 22:09

@FrangipaniBlue

If you don't video yourself popping that amazing specimen then I'm leaving MN, I mean otherwise why am I even here?

WinkGrin

I concur in the highest possible way
Northernsoullover · 08/09/2021 22:11

I had something like that on the back of my thigh. I had a hot bath and as I was drying off I put two fingers on each side of it to try and pull it round for a better look and with the pressure it ejected an arc of pus 6ft across the room Shock

NessieMcNessface · 08/09/2021 22:14

I had one the same, hot bath burst it in the end just when I thought I couldn’t stand it any more; it was such a relief. They’re horrible; you have my sympathy. I wouldn’t burst it personally but I can understand you wanting to. Hope you get it resolved soon.

ljcudd · 08/09/2021 22:14

I have a skin condition that causes numerous abscesses. One of the methods we use to help them drain them self is to use vicks rub on it. Then cover with dressing or a large plaster. The vicks also helps with the pain.

Also draw around the red circle with a sharpie and time. If it goes beyond that circle, draw another circle with the time and seek further medical advice.

Aquilegias · 08/09/2021 22:14

How the heck could anyone not pop that?! Grin I literally could not, not pop it

AuditAngel · 08/09/2021 22:14

I’m surprised no-one has said to draw around the outside of the hot red area to check if it is still growing.

I would have stick a needle in it, after a hot compress, then cover with magnesium sulphate paste and a dressing to draw it out

TinselTime21 · 08/09/2021 22:15

I get these all the time. I always pop with hot sterile needle. Then squeeze. The pain makes me feel sick but the relief.!! Then finish antibiotics
