Things that always disappoint

For me it's baths. Never quite the experience I crave.

@SylviasMotherSaid

Work nights out even though I try my hardest to avoid them when I have been on one we seem to spend our night in the pissing rain traipsing round pubs not getting a seat eating a mediocre meal fretting over missing the last train home and no one really knowing what to say to each other
I agree but I can’t be disappointed by them as I don’t look forward to them, at all! An occasional necessary evil 😬

@yumscrumfatbum

Weddings. I get excited at the idea of dressing up, the sense of occasion, nice food etc. Ends up with loads of waiting around nursing half a glass of warm bubbly desperate for even a sniff of a sausage roll.
YES! I get so excited about having a chance to wear a nice frock and be part of someone's happy occasion.

Three hours in, my feet are absolutely killing me as I'm wearing heels for the first time in six months, I'm bored stiff making small talk to dozens of people I've never met before and will never see again, and I have a headache after two glasses of prosecco on an empty stomach.

Chinese takeaway, I always feel my insides are grubby afterwards. Which is annoying because I enjoy eating it at the time!

RandomDent · 27/08/2021 11:08

Spas.

TrampolineForMrKite · 27/08/2021 11:20

Getting a Chinese from one that isn’t your usual. Never hits the spot in quite the right way.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 27/08/2021 12:41

Yes to this! Thinking of last Christmas buying my dcats the flippety fish toy. They loathed it! Much preferred the cheap furry mouse from Home Bargains..

Yes, I was tempted by last year's heavily-advertised flippety fish but gave my head a wobble because past experience should have taught be it would be greeted with the utmost disdain ...

kidsatuniemptynester · 27/08/2021 12:49

@SquirryTheSquirrel

Cat toys. You buy an expensive, elaborate toy for your cat - he sniffs it for two seconds and wanders off, never to look at it again. Five minutes later, you find him leaping round in manic excitement over an old wine cork that had rolled under the sofa.
Ha ha! Our local FB marketplace page is full of sneeringly rejected hardly used cat towers!
Afonavon · 27/08/2021 13:12

MacDonalds (ALWAYS disappoints, but my brain still makes me believe that it is such a treat...before I start eating it).

Takeaways

Most restaurant food

Hairdressers

Cocktails

Holidays (stresssssss)

BrilloPaddy · 27/08/2021 13:15

Yes yes to weddings.

Basically the concept of being held in a cattle pen all day in your best clothes.

No ta.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 27/08/2021 13:17

Shop bought scones

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 27/08/2021 13:19

@SunShinesBrightly

Tulips.

They go from poker straight to floppy the second they are introduced to a vase.

Make a pin prick at the tip of the stem, as close to the flower as you can and they won’t do this. And chop a cm off the bottom of the stem and refresh the water every day. They’ll last for ages then.
LadyLindaT · 27/08/2021 13:23

Croissants. The idea of them is always better than the actuality.

IdblowJonSnow · 27/08/2021 13:49

Husbands.

LadyPoison · 27/08/2021 14:19

Cornish pasties - even from highly recommended Cornish bakers.

They smell glorious but never quite deliver

iamprobablynotyourcupoftea · 27/08/2021 14:34

Spending money. Lol I buy things and think I spent all that on nothing!

AndSoFinally · 27/08/2021 15:31

Fruit teas. Smell amazing, taste of nothing

CurbsideProphet · 27/08/2021 15:47

Baths - how do they look so comfortable on tv? My neck and shoulders ache from having nothing to support them properly.

Tulips - I snip the stems at an angle but they're still floppy within a few hours.

Christmas - no children so we have to do the rounds of my family / in laws and make polite conversation all day.

NYE - just feels so anticlimactic and pointless.

I agree that being a grown up is disappointing.

Samcro · 27/08/2021 16:13

getting my hair cut.
in my head I think it will make me look so good.....come out hair is great, but I still have the same face Grin

OldMamaOf3 · 27/08/2021 17:36

My Mother

MissCherryCakeyBun · 27/08/2021 17:51

Cheaper perfume.....ends up smelling a bit like piddle after a few hours 🤨

Ddot · 27/08/2021 17:52

Cake!
90% of time its disappointing, too sweet, too dry, no flavour 😭

Angelil · 27/08/2021 17:52

re: fruit teas - just don’t fish the tea bag out, and it will be fine. The time on the box is always a gross underestimate.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 27/08/2021 17:55

Make up and hair products that promise to transform you and never do. Heaven knows what I've spent over the years.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/08/2021 18:03

Politicians
Sainsbury’s strawberries
Planned nights out (unplanned ones always seem better)

CatAndHisKit · 27/08/2021 18:04

TheBullfinch

yep, most theatre, with a very few exceptions. Sometimes part of the play is great but hardly ever all of it.
