Things that always disappoint

For me it's baths. Never quite the experience I crave.

OP posts:

Holidays in Britain
Going to my mum's
opera
champagne

TartanJumper · 26/08/2021 22:41

Agree with cinema. I just want to lie fully stretched out in my PJs to watch a film!

BlancheB · 26/08/2021 22:45

Agree with Afternoon tea, especially outside of London. Prepared for a flaming Cake

MakkaPakkas · 26/08/2021 22:59

British holidays, new years eve parties

MorrisZapp · 26/08/2021 23:07

Socks. They're the absolute last word in luxury when they're brand new and your feet go OMG, then after one wash they're like all the other shit socks in your drawer.

Wincarnis · 26/08/2021 23:07

Going out for dinner. Always get food envy, always feel judged, always get indigestion, always feel robbed. Throw in my food allergy and dislikes, and it’s a total waste of time!

SylviasMotherSaid · 26/08/2021 23:07

Work nights out even though I try my hardest to avoid them when I have been on one we seem to spend our night in the pissing rain traipsing round pubs not getting a seat eating a mediocre meal fretting over missing the last train home and no one really knowing what to say to each other

Anordinarymum · 26/08/2021 23:09

@imadeitnice

Fish and chips
I was going to say this !

The thought of them is better than the experience of eating them.

MackenCheese · 26/08/2021 23:09

KFC. Smells delicious, tastes bland and texture is suspiciously not like chicken. What on earth is it?--Confused

Happenchance · 26/08/2021 23:11

People and life.

TheWashingMachine · 26/08/2021 23:14

I agree on takeaways always a let down, and chocolate just does not hit the spot like ot used to.

hellswelshy · 26/08/2021 23:15

@SquirryTheSquirrel

Cat toys. You buy an expensive, elaborate toy for your cat - he sniffs it for two seconds and wanders off, never to look at it again. Five minutes later, you find him leaping round in manic excitement over an old wine cork that had rolled under the sofa.
Yes to this! Thinking of last Christmas buying my dcats the flippety fish toy. They loathed it! Much preferred the cheap furry mouse from Home Bargains...Hmm
Unfashionable · 26/08/2021 23:24

Expensive / posh hotels in big cities. They don’t offer anything that a good chain hotel doesn’t, except fancy bed linen which I don’t care about and obsequious forelock-tugging staff which annoys me. Give me Premier Inn at a quarter of the price any time.

PeacheyPeach · 26/08/2021 23:30

Eating out, my DH is such a great cook that I think we should have just stayed at home and saved all the money !

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/08/2021 06:55

@SunShinesBrightly

Tulips.

They go from poker straight to floppy the second they are introduced to a vase.

That sounds like someone I know. Blush
Helloitsmi · 27/08/2021 06:57

@Hassled

That's because Wagamama s food IS disappointing.
Not just what you order. The entire thing is just below average.

SunShinesBrightly · 27/08/2021 07:10

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

🤣🤣🤣

BadLad · 27/08/2021 07:15

Mumsnet parking threads.

mamaduckbone · 27/08/2021 07:22

Yes to fruit teas! Also, boxes of chocolates - look really inviting but the centres are usually sickly and bland. (Unless they're really, REALLY good ones)

polkadotpjs · 27/08/2021 08:38

My people! Though crispy batter on fish definitely exists, chippy chips are always soft here. And you've had enough after 3 mouthfuls then starving again after an hour.

Abracadabra12345 · 27/08/2021 08:45

Coffee. It smells amazing and then I take a sip and am disappointed because I don’t like coffee

yumscrumfatbum · 27/08/2021 08:56

Weddings. I get excited at the idea of dressing up, the sense of occasion, nice food etc. Ends up with loads of waiting around nursing half a glass of warm bubbly desperate for even a sniff of a sausage roll.

ThePlumVan · 27/08/2021 09:08

Cocktails - sound amazing, look amazing.
Disappointing and overpriced.

MayContainNits · 27/08/2021 09:09

Always fruit teas. The promise of luscious flavours - rose hips, camomile, etc - plus the warm glow of healthy choices, yet the result is warm pot pourri water.

Cupcakes. Somehow tastes exactly the same as the sponge/buttercream combo I'd knock up at home myself. Plus resentful guilt at having spent £3.50 to be reminded of this.

Spa days. Sitting awkwardly in your swimming costume on a hot tiled banquette, trying not to make eye contact with a woman who might be your mum's friend Jean from book club, while waiting for a single 30 min massage. Why do I always imagine hotel spas will be Elemis Disneyworld?

wanderlove · 27/08/2021 09:43

@SunShinesBrightly

Tulips.

They go from poker straight to floppy the second they are introduced to a vase.

If you put a copper in the vase they stay straight. Don’t ask me how or why but they do. It’ll change your relationship with tulips 🌷
