For me it's baths. Never quite the experience I crave.

OP posts:

My family ignoring the washing on the steps

janj2301 · 28/08/2021 07:13

That email from National Lottery on Saturday morning saying you've won a prize. Until I log on I imagine I'm a millionaire, then only win £2.30, doesn't even cover the cost of the ticket, but I keep playing, mug

tanqueray10 · 28/08/2021 07:44

@MorrisZapp So true about the socks!!

Also cupcakes… always look amazing but taste too sweet and claggy

Coffee - never tastes like it smells, nearest i can find are the Rombouts or Dowe Egbert one cup coffee filters where the water drips through, when you open the sealed vacuum pack you get that lovely coffee smell...but all the high street coffee shops just a bit .....meh

@KitchenDancefloor

Cookbooks.

The photography is always amazing. Yes, this time I will fill my table with abundant, colourful dishes and surround myself with happy people who will be grateful for this feast. Just like the book.

Nope, I'll cook something straight from the freezer again for my family who will inhale it in 10 seconds flat and then just get on with their day.

I read every cookbook cover to cover when it arrives then it sits on the shelf for the next 10 years because the recipes are just a bit too fiddly, or have too many ingredients or have flavours that one person in the family doesn't like, or, or... so pizza it is again.

This is me too Grin

4 start hotels. ‘Almost luxurious’

@Terrysmyorange

Takeaways- expensive, faff of collecting them and they taste disappointing.
How come you collect? The whole point of a takeaway is the ease. You click a few buttons and it arrives 30 mins later no?
Ilovegardens · 28/08/2021 11:22

@AnnieSnap I would but living in a small town there isn't much choice sadly.

That’s a shame. A good GP is so important 😔

youlookingatme · 28/08/2021 11:56

Gateau..........always sounds nicer than it actually tastes.
One thing that never disappoints is hot toast and butter.

I used to love Rombouts and Douwe Egbert, but you never seem to see them anywhere these days, it's always latte, flat white or God knows what, made from a very noisy machine so that you have to shout to make yourself heard, and they all taste like shite. Sorry, rant over.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles
Have you met one of my ex's 🤣🤣🤣

TheLivingAnt · 28/08/2021 13:39

Having a facial. Never look any different and could just as well put the stuff on myself

AnnieSnap · 28/08/2021 13:45

I have loads of cook books (well baking for me, cooking for my hubby). The occasional recipe is used repeatedly. We mostly now look for recipes online. BBC recipes is a great source and free.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 28/08/2021 14:03

Christmas
Non alcoholic gin 'ette' overpriced drinks. Taste like acid and you get ripped out of £20 for the privilege.
Any Indian takeout. A bit of meat in a tray of bright red/orange slop. Why does everyone go on about curry like they are eating gold. It's a fancy stew at best.
Anything that's billed as ' an exclusive experience' I'll be the judge of that and no it usually isn't.
The beach
Snow

nopuppiesallowed · 28/08/2021 16:50

@miltonj Make your own hot chocolate. Melt 4 squares Cadbury plain choc in a mug of milk. Microwave and stir well. Add a few drops vanilla extract (essence?). To die for!

Worrysaboutalot · 28/08/2021 18:09

@cricketmum84

Definitely agree with cinema. Too loud, my wheelchair only goes in the shit seats at the front and have to crane my neck to watch. Crazy expensive drinks and popcorn.

Also they just don't make films like the used to!! I would rather sit at home with a G&T and watch the full monty than go spend a tenner on what cost the cinema approx 68p and watch the newest marvel blockbuster.

God I sound like a right miserable git 😂

I go to my local Vue Cinema because although I still have to sit at the front, I transfer from my wheelchair to one of their comfy reclining seats. Which means the neck ache isn't a problem. Smile

NYE, traditional Christmas Dinner, have now changed menu to Ottolenghi, Chinese take away, my birthday, cakes and pastries,

CherryRipe1 · 29/08/2021 04:50

Netflix. Loads of rubbish content.
Pork pies. Eew. Given up eating them as always feel pukey afterwards.
Fortnum & Masons preserves etc etc. Lizzie, you'd get nicer tasting stuff at Aldi or Lidl Ma'am.
Shop bought "wraps". Tasteless soggy clag.
Dismal Disneyland/world. Forced
over-hyped "entertainment".
Boohoo clothes. Always returned so given up buying from there.
Tapas bars. UK ones in particular. Overpriced indifferent offerings.
Candy floss aka Cotton candy. Gross, migraine inducing dentists delight. Ditto toffee apples.

ellyeth · 29/08/2021 12:52

I absolutely agree about Netflix, which I think is really over-hyped. I have seen six or seven good films and a couple of excellent documentaries but I think most of the content is dire - trashy, unrealistic dramas that seem to be churned out, conveyor belt style.

In fact I agree with most of your choices CherryRipe. I think the secret of most of these products' popularity is marketing rather than quality. (I like candy floss though - very occasionally).

potty39 · 02/09/2021 12:21

I love this!! So funny and so very true .... dont bother with the cat toys they love weird oddments like newspapers shreds and ballpoint pens!!
Thanks for making me smile!

Ddot · 02/09/2021 12:50

Lotions and potions that promise youthful skin 🤬 anti frizz for hair 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

nopuppiesallowed · 02/09/2021 13:03

Lipsticks photographed on 16 year old models, making me think I, too, can have a luscious pout if I buy the overpriced lipstick. And I always fall for it Confused
