For me it's baths. Never quite the experience I crave.

Christmas dinner. By the time I've cooked it all, I'm sick of the sight of it.
I can really relate to this . The build up of excitement towards the day , convince yourself everything you cook is going to be fucking perfect , and it is . But you are so fucking sick of the sight of it you just want a glass of something nice and a seat .

Me too. I never enjoy it.

Definitely hair salon appointments.

Every time I go I imagine leaving with a lovely bouncy, healthy hair cut and blow dry.

The reality : Limp, product laden hair that needs rewashing the minute I get home and a wait of 3 weeks before the cut grows into a half decent shape.

It doesn’t matter where I go. Always the same.

SunShinesBrightly · 26/08/2021 20:25

Cheese on toast and Welsh rarebit from a cafe.

Never as good as homemade.

Agree with NYE and fruit teas. Mine is bacon sandwiches. Bacon smells so amazing when it’s cooking that eating it is always a bit of a let down.

TSSDNCOP · 26/08/2021 20:30

@AdaColeman with sunflowers, cut the stems short and arrange them in a low vase/bowl.

merrymelody · 26/08/2021 20:34

Nail polish. I always make a mess of it.

AchingLimbs · 26/08/2021 20:35

Chocolate cake. Looks nice but tastes like a waxy, oily, claggy mess.

bubblepond · 26/08/2021 20:36

Chinese takeaways

SausagePourHomme · 26/08/2021 20:41

going on holiday. The adverts make the places look peaceful, deserted. When you get there there's a load of other hapless holidaymakers crammed in to the same attractions, beaches etc. And the travel is so stressful you spend half the holiday recovering from it or preparing to set off again

AuntieJoyce · 26/08/2021 20:43

Agree with bacon sandwiches. Stinking out the kitchen all day and soaking pans for four mouthfuls

Ebor Day. Dressing up, exciting trip on train followed by queueing for bus with feet on fire, sad seafood in styrofoam, watered down pimms and 500 quid spanked with one place bet coming all day and that’s if you’re lucky

elizaco · 26/08/2021 20:44

Steak
A day on the beach (namely the sand in the car afterwards!)

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/08/2021 20:45

Sunday Roast dinners from ‘cosy countryside pubs’ it’s either the shite gravy, awful roast potatoes or naff veg.

Primark

Motorway services

OrangeBananaFish · 26/08/2021 20:47

Totally agree with Christmas day, NYE and birthdays (my own).

Christmas day used to be exciting cos Santa came, then as I got older it was a fun drinking session. Now its just work, work, work and driving to various relatives.

Never been a fan of NYE

My birthday - I have this dream that I'm going to get spoilt and feel loved, yet I never do. Once the disappointment of my 40th passed I gave up.

Evenings in. I often go to the gym or running club, but when I decide to skip it and have a lovely evening in I get bored by 6.

Fairyliz · 26/08/2021 20:47

British summers.
It’s either cold and raining or if it’s hot it’s all muggy and you can’t sleep.
Other countries seem to have sunny warm days where it’s lovely to sit out.

Was just about to say chocolate cake. Somehow it never actually tastes like chocolate.
TheBullfinch · 26/08/2021 20:48

The theatre. Doesnt matter where/who, it just bores me and I cant stop yawning and wishing it was over.

Meals out. Always hot, noisy, by the door or worse - the toilets, grumpy staff, waiting ages for service, mediocre food.

New Year.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 26/08/2021 20:49

'Miracle' volumising shampoos. Nope, my hair looks even limper than with my normal shampoo and now I'm stuck with this useless stuff because I've spent a tenner on it and I don't want to waste it.

They are my favourite thing. I have one for an hour every evening.
HumbugWhale · 26/08/2021 20:52

Ready meals, even the posher ones. Homemade is always so much nicer. Same applies to shop-bought cake. Nice if from a proper bakery, mass-produced supermarket-type cake is vile.

God yes. I'd forgotten about holidays. It's the hordes of people that ruin it and I never go on holiday in June/July/August so it must be even worse then.

The only peace and solitude i ever found was on a nudist beach in Tenerife and strangely enough, Sunset Beach in California at 6pm. I think the shark flags were flying though.
