Just interested because a lot of people on mumsnet seem to have horses Grin

I used to have one on part-loan, but she went back so currently I have 0 horses

3 horses - one in work, one broodmare and her daughter who is a yearling 😊

Ostryga · 24/08/2021 23:44

0 but my tiktok algorithm thinks I’m a full blown rider so I know what a twitch is and when to use is.

And also how mineral oil helps colic

Stickytreacle · 24/08/2021 23:50

Currently 0, since I had my old mare put down, but nine cats and two dogs so still busy!

I had 6 when we were competing. We've got a farm though, so not extortionate livery fees!

NotMyCat · 24/08/2021 23:53

0 at present. My loan horse died and I can't face another yet

1 pony now , I’ve been a horse / pony owner continuously for the last 41 years , the most we ever had at once was 3 horses and a pony . Our current pony is 28 , we don’t sell any of ours .

thatonesmine · 25/08/2021 00:03

I have an adopted Exmoor pony I've never met because he lives in Devon and I live in Sheffield. However I continue to renew the adoption every year. My chances of ever owning a hands-on horse are zero.

Shannith · 25/08/2021 00:04

1 who in the spring I kept washing to see if she was in fact a chestnut mare. She's not. Just a hormonal baystard. She's mellowed recently and is a joy at the moment.

Maverickess · 25/08/2021 00:07

Have a retired old reprobate that I was given a few years ago. Had a good time with him and he's now living the life of Riley destroying things (like his rugs, twat) being put in his place by the ancient mare he shares a field with and conning carrots out of unsuspecting liveries.

  1. My ex husband had one but he’d rehomed it and it was too small to ride. It was on long term loan to a family locally.
FlibbertyGiblets · 25/08/2021 01:01

High horse
Clothes horse
Hobby horse
Saw horse

That is 4, in all.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/08/2021 01:28

No physical horses, but we are the proud owners of this rather fine chap who was apparently painted by a reasonably well known painter of war horses.

I sometimes feel I'm the only one in my village that doesn't own an actual honest to goodness horse but I'm secretly a bit scared of them Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 25/08/2021 01:29

It would have made more sense if I'd actually uploaded the photo Confused

wheresthehope · 25/08/2021 06:54

We have 11 horses/ponies. My mother and I breed them.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/08/2021 06:59

Er, none. DS has riding lessons but I can't afford a horse!

Bluesheep8 · 25/08/2021 07:01

Baby dressage horses?

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2021 07:02

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/08/2021 07:05

Used to have two.

None now.

Miss them every day.

TashieWoo · 25/08/2021 07:05

Two - one retired and one in work.

They are a big commitment and it’s stressful at times but I adore them and wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/08/2021 07:07

None, but my DPs have 1/20 (or they used to anyway) — part of a syndicate.

I've donated to the Donkey Sanctuary for long enough that I'm sure I have at least a timeshare in one by now. Grin

The horsey threads on here make me laugh because of something a colleague said once.

She didn't understand why horses are the preserve of the rich and are a status symbol here

She said where she is from (Eastern Europe) gypsies have horses. You only have a horse if you can't afford a car. Makes me laugh when I see the braggy horse threads I just think of that.

I rode a pony a beach once when I was 6. That's it.

MotherofPoodles · 25/08/2021 08:07

I love the quote from your colleague. Do people really still think that it's just for the rich though? There are people who have horses as a status symbol but I suspect real horsey people dislike them more than the none horsey type. Bit of a cliche really.

I am very privileged to have horses but because they're so flipping amazing and not because they make me look good because usually they make me look dirty and ridiculous and in actual physical pain.
