I’m sure he had been advised to step away from this man, even before it all came out. Dodgy is dodgy. Lie with dogs, etc.

Too arrogant to listen to advice?

DuncinToffee · 15/08/2021 10:28

@SpindleWhorl

Didn't he or his 'people' try and suggest the photo was faked at one point? Until it was obvious it wasn't.

The Mail Online is pretty excoriating today.

Yes he did vaguely suggest that in the interview, on some earlier threads we had posters claiming his hand was photoshopped etc.
Roussette · 15/08/2021 10:32

I'm sure about that too. There is no doubt in my mind he will have been advised to curtail his friendship with Epstein, but I doubt Andrew listens to anyone.

But maybe he is today. Listening to his lawyers that is. Apparently, he has a team advising him over here, and a team in NY also. No guesses who's paying for that level of legal advice...

diddl · 15/08/2021 10:32

"Too arrogant to listen to advice?"

That wouldn't surprise me at all & that's what will probably trip him up.

KittenKong · 15/08/2021 10:34

I can’t believe his mum didn’t have a word...

diddl · 15/08/2021 10:47

@KittenKong

I can’t believe his mum didn’t have a word...
Maybe she did?
OhGiveUp · 15/08/2021 10:52

If I remember correctly, he was advised by the palace not to do the interview, but he went ahead anyway and dug himself an even deeper hole by doing so.
He comes across as being a very arrogant ' Do you know who I am! ' type.

Viviennemary · 15/08/2021 10:52

Not sure the Queen does have words with people. She ignored the Charles/Camilla thing. And Margaret's behaviour was quite outrageous at times. Nothing on this scale though. But non blood royals are dealt with severely. Eg Fergie's toe sucking incident.,

Roussette · 15/08/2021 11:09

I agree Vivienne.

There's a scathing article in The Times today. It's behind a paywall so I can't see it all, but I've seen the main points.

The Queen is underwriting PA's legal fees.

This will no doubt be couched in the terms of money from Duchy of Lancaster BUT the DoL is not the Queen's private estate, it belongs to the british state. She can't sell or transfer it, the income from it is public money that she has access to whilst she is Queen. So basically, yes we are paying his legal fees Shock And this will come to millions

Royal aides believe there are 'credibility' problems with PA's version of events.

Maireas · 15/08/2021 13:00

That's outrageous, Roussette.
I hope it all comes out, all of it, including tax payer support.

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 13:29

His lawyers were always going to be tax payer funded. I can’t get upset about that because the pot of money the monarchy gets is the same, regardless of how it’s spent.

The court of public opinion has condemned him and there’s no way back for him, regardless of what happens in any court case. The Times today reckons he’ll soon be stripped of all his military honorary ranks. It also thinks there will be an out of court settlement. The really interesting thing is what comes out in Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial.

justasking111 · 15/08/2021 13:56

Will they serve Sarah with papers I wonder??

Maireas · 15/08/2021 14:00

I was thinking about Sarah Ferguson, currently touting her Mills and Boon book. I strongly suspect she won't be implicated.

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 14:04

@justasking111

Why would they?
Roussette · 15/08/2021 14:23

But if there is a payout of say £14M, surely that means the Sovereign Grant will go up by £14M to accommodate that payout?
I get upset about it. (not upset really, but you get what I mean)

Yes, on Maxwell's trial. I've read different opposing views on this. One... that she is going to be as tight as a drum and not implicate him. Two, quite the opposite.

Part of the court papers show that he asked Maxwell for information on Guiffre. And under oath she admitted she talked to PA about her.

More will happen with PA before Maxwell's trial because once papers are served PA has a 3 week window to respond.

Roussette · 15/08/2021 14:24

Back on the money aspect. The money is not always the same. It was increased by a huge amount just in June.

Blossomtoes · 15/08/2021 14:28

But if there is a payout of say £14M, surely that means the Sovereign Grant will go up by £14M to accommodate that payout?

I don’t think that would happen. It will be like the repairs to Windsor Castle after the fire, the Queen had to pay for those from her private fortune. There’s plenty kicking about, after all, Charles seemed to find £20 million for Harry and Meghan without scrabbling down the back of the sofa.

I think the taxpayer will foot the bill for Andrew’s legal fees but from existing funding.

Roussette · 15/08/2021 14:30

It's talk that it will be from the Duchy of Lancaster. But that is not private funds as I said in a previous post, although it will be dressed up as that.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 15/08/2021 14:34

I think the royal family is finished if they carry on shielding this man. If he's as innocent as he claims he has nothing to hide. The queen might be oblivious/in denial/or believe him, but the British public aren't as easily convinced.

SpindleWhorl · 15/08/2021 14:37

So could there be an argument to be made that the Queen, to fund Andrew's defence, will be raiding the crown coffers for money that could have been held in public/state ownership?

The Queen is not a shrinking violet when it comes to anything that affects her personally. Remember she has the first (not last) say on any and all legislation parliament discusses.
Maireas · 15/08/2021 16:34

HM may be a bit blinded/persuaded by Andrew. However, she will not return from Windsor Castle, and Charles is increasingly taking on her responsibilities, and passing his on to William. On certain projects to do with the monarchy, they've been working in tandem. Neither of them have much time for Andrew by all accounts, and won't want him trashing the institution. Andrew must hope that his mother lives for a while longer yet, he would be less supported by Charles and William.

8misskitty8 · 15/08/2021 16:58

They knew it was coming, hence Fergie being wheeled out to the media to talk about how great PA is and she does not believe the allegations the last few weeks. Also big thing in the press about going to Balmoral with him and that she will be there for weeks with the queen etc.

He won’t go on trial, there will be a large settlement with gagging order instead. So we will never know the truth.

Dreamstate · 15/08/2021 17:20

This is absolutely disgusting the royal family using public taxpayer money to find his defence. We pay the monarchy to represent his country not defend their legal issues that absolutely go against what this country represents

Shame on them, nothing but a bunch of free loaders and time the monarchy was consigned to history.

Dreamstate · 15/08/2021 17:21

Oh and the uproar over taxpayers money being spent on h&m ....nothing in the media about how we are paying for his defence and no uproar over that.....funny what people and the media choose to make a deal about
