Epstein killed himself (if that is true) when he realised he wouldn't be leaving prison again. He knew his guilt, he got lucky with his first conviction and the sweetheart deal. He knew he wouldn't get lucky with the second.

I find it truly disgusting that the same week this news broke, on this very forum a mother posted seeking advice for travel arrangements for her 17 year old daughter, who had a day ticket for a festival, but was not streetwise enough to journey home independently.

And yet, this thread many are concluding that VG not only had the maturity to "know what she was getting into", she also had a plan longterm to use it to her benefit. On a parenting forum this disgusting lack of understanding of rape culture, consent (she was underage regardless?!), abd I don't know just general empathy and humanity for a victim saddens me so much.

There are certainly different levels of street wise teen though. Sadly many dc have already lived a life time of trauma by the time they make the teenagers.

However they still lack the benefit of time /experience etc and it can't be see how even a street wise teen would ever be able to work out what the hell ghislen maxwell and epstien were up too.

I suspect the fact she was just 17 was the "selling point"/magnet used by JE and GM to lure the likes of PA along. Let's face it , he and many other powerful global make figures also happily attended in full knowledge. All with teams of legal advisors and media specialists on speed dial. Yet they all felt it both wise and risk free as money always trumps injustice.

To those musing earlier as to whether there was any "evidence" (beyond Virginia's statements), I think Prince Andrew (and others) need to fervently hope that the rumours of Epstein having CCTV cameras in all his properties turn out to be just that: rumours.

I've read from more than one source, there was CCTV everywhere. There was even a surveillance room monitoring it all. And a dedicated employee managing it.
So say, for blackmail purposes, no idea how true that bit is. This was in all his properties. It could've been for his own sexual perversions as well.

PA's interview tactic of 'I don't recall' suggests he's very worried about camera evidence emerging.

So he's not denying stuff, like a normal innocent person would - he's saying 'I don't remember, I don't recall that'. This is his strategy. He doesn't know what evidence is out there.

Let's take it that he did indeed sleep with Virginia Roberts. Let's take it also that it wasn't a big deal for him. This happened 20 years ago. I'm the same age as him. Honestly, I wouldn't be recalling things either.

I used to teach. My friends now sometimes mention students and I say I never taught them. But they insist I did. I don't then say, you're lying. I go, well, I don't recall them. Because I genuinely don't remember but there's always a possibility I did. Why do MNers always expect everything to be so black and white?
