There should be a full, independent inquiry into Prince Andrew's goings on - including the financial side as well as the alleged rape. The US litigation focusing on a particular case can run its course, but I don't think there is a chance of uncovering fully what has been covered up by the RF unless there is an exhaustive inquiry.

Truthseeker34 · 11/08/2021 07:43

Yes plenty .

ProfessorSlocombe · 11/08/2021 07:44
@mathanxiety

Prince Andrew is a potential witness in the Ghislane Maxwell case which is a Criminal case.
Any information provided to them (FBI) in relation to this case could potentially be used in the Civil case and vice versa
Not in the US, under the 5th amendment.

Truthseeker34 · 11/08/2021 07:44

For you saying innocent until proven guilty, why was he with Epstein so much , why do you think epstein "killed himself "

Roussette · 11/08/2021 07:52

We are not in a court of law, we are on a discussion forum. And I think PA managed to cast immense doubt on any innocence with his entitled lets-brush-it-under-the-carpet Maitlis interview
It just goes to show how he takes everyone but himself for complete fools, as if we'd believe the garbage he came out with. What surprised me was that Beatrice strongly advised him to do this interview. Madness. It sealed his guilt as far as I'm concerned.

Guiffre's lawyers.... footage here with them saying he cannot ignore this US lawsuit. PA's lawyers have ignored them for five years. If he ignores them now, there will be a default judgement.

Good.
Older adults having sex with under 18s should be a crime in the UK imo.

OhWhyNot · 11/08/2021 08:00

Yes why does anyone choose to hang around a known sex offender why has served a prison sentence

What could you gain from a relationship with a high profile known sex offender

Apparently the relationship wasn’t close so why not cut ties

Channel 4 asking questions of VG's lawyers.

“He can ignore me and he can ignore Virginia… but he can’t ignore judicial process.”

Virginia Giuffre’s lawyer, David Boies, says Prince Andrew and his lawyers have “simply ignored every letter, every phone call, every outreach that we’ve made”.

SpindleWhorl · 11/08/2021 08:05

@Roussette, I watched the you tube analysis of PA's Maitlis interview by The Behaviour Panel, four body language experts (recommended by @Ouch44 upthread). It's fascinating.

The Panel reckon they were looking at a very high ratio of deception and deceptive strategising from PA, that he's quite a smart deceiver but no genius, and that he's very invested in his own status and in demanding others people's compliance.

I see he's now at Balmoral with the Queen with Sarah Ferguson in tow, and that the Mirror is running a story about another potential sexual assault allegation against PA from one of Epstein's former assistants.

PA is the lead story on the news on my radio station, and has been since at least 7am.

Roussette · 11/08/2021 08:11

Oh and Sky News have turned off comments on Twitter on the sexual assault complaint against PA. Proof of the invisible contract between the monarchy and the media... surely?

BBC mentioned it in passing this morning... maybe 30 seconds on it. Hmm
I need to check out the US press, at least they can't be gagged.

'Royal reporters' are having a meltdown too.

Roussette · 11/08/2021 08:13

Thanks Spindle I have seen one youtube vid on this, I must check and see if it's the same one.

tropicalwaterdiver · 11/08/2021 08:16

@newstart1337

Her testimony

In America that is hardly enough to get it into court. I imagine they are hoping the court of public opinion will get her a settlement. It seems almost impossible there would be a conviction.

It's a civil not criminal case, in civil cases people sue for damages not for conviction. And agree with others, I think RF will settle it outside the court.
DancesWithTortoises · 11/08/2021 09:23

An American friend says this is a tactic to try to force him to settle out of court which is what usually happens. Listening to the lawyer on TV this morning he was saying much the same.

Just another white man exploiting a vulnerable woman. It's been her life.

Dreamstate · 11/08/2021 09:49

IF a settlement out of court is made or actually even it wasn't and damsges were awarded, that money better not be taxpayers money but come from their own private wealth

It makes no difference, the Sovereign Grant is the same amount whatever it’s spent on. I actually wouldn’t mind my money going to her, I can think of far worse things to spend it on.
MissTrip82 · 11/08/2021 10:05

@lljkk

I hope VR loses. Badly. Because I'm tired of Guilty until proven Innocent attitudes.

i don't care what happens to PA otherwise, btw.

I Wonder when this thread will go poof.

Do you have difficulty grasping the concept of the presumption of innocence?

It’s a maxim that applies in one place only: a criminal court. It applies there because it is there that the state can impose the ultimate sanction on and individual, the deprivation of their liberty.

It applies literally nowhere else. Nowhere. Not in the street, not in the media, not in your home. Outside of a criminal court we are entirely free to decide whether we think someone is guilty.

It also, of course, does not apply in the civil forum in which this case has arisen.

I can’t really fathom how you can hope that someone who asserts they have been sexually abused as a child will fail in proving that assertion because you have not managed to grasp how this maxim works and in your ignorance feel affronted by it.

I am not sure what the term is for the junction of stupidity and lack of empathy but you’re standing on it.

Why has the woman who killed the boy not faced judicial process. She has even admitted it. Not even a driving ban. Still driving round as bold as brass last time I read anything about it.

awaynboilyurheid · 11/08/2021 10:15

Perhaps Sarah is in tow with him hoping to “write”a new mills and boon cover up story of the poor wronged prince, who never sweats, and the nasty sex trafficked teenager who should just keep quiet.

It was said her DH was CIA but you wouldn’t get immunity in that case. It’s more likely she’s CIA.

It’s disgusting though.

Roussette · 11/08/2021 10:18

I certainly don't defend all women of all accusations. But I think we need to look at the facts.
I read somewhere there were 150 witness statements, and PA was part of a circle of people that included hundreds of young girls, procured and groomed. Some were as young as 14, they were vulnerable, financially poor, they were promised modelling contracts, doors being opened, stuff beyond their wildest dreams. Then they became just another commodity to be passed around.

The Queen's son was part of that. It's hard to take that in.

And his long close friendship with Maxwell... who is accused of six federal crimes to include enticement of minors and sex trafficking. And yet we are supposed to believe he did not sleep with Guiffre, he had no idea about any of this, even after his pal Epstein was jailed for prostitution of a minor and on the sex offenders register, he carried on the friendship and only gave it up when the heat was on, and he doesn't regret it.
Shock

I know who I'd prefer to believe.

He killed himself when the reality of him being in prison hit

You clearly never met a paedophile they can be very very nice people even when they are arrested make people feel they are the victim they simply wouldn't get close to people if they weren't charismatic

Theunamedcat · 11/08/2021 10:35

Plus innocent until proven guilty is the standard of the British criminal justice system the American is quite complex and different you can be in jail and innocent which I really don't understand

VladmirsPoutine · 11/08/2021 10:36

According to the news this morning PA is facing another lawsuit from another woman.

If it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck. What is it?

Maireas · 11/08/2021 10:37

@Mandalay246 - Mumsnet isn't a hive mind, though. On this thread alone there are posters arguing that teenage girls enjoy it, VR isn't as innocent as she claims, she's out for money etc. So not all of the same opinion.
Of course lives can be wrecked by false accusations. It must be horrendous. It can't be belittled, but it shouldn't stop the 99% fearing to come forward for fear of not being believed.
For too long, girls and women have been exploited, abused and raped without hope of justice, which is what the point many are making on here.
Who knows. Andrew could just be an innocent party goer with consenting partners.
Or it could all be less palatable.
