umm but how is a gay couple supposed to have kids if not through surrogacy? sperm plus sperm does not a baby make

The answer is not to create a child with the intention of taking them away from their bio mother. Using women in this way, hiring a womb, risking their health isn’t acceptable in my opinion.

I believe an egg donor was used so the baby was not 'taken away from their bio mother'. If that's what's bothering you.
knittingaddict · 07/08/2021 22:00

I would suggest that people have a look on Ravelry and then tell me that knitting is for old ladies. It certainly isn't these days.

The mother that this baby knows is the mum that carried him for 9 months. The baby was created to be taken away from its mum. What bothers me is babies being created to be taken away and women being used in this way.

knittingaddict · 07/08/2021 22:04

This.

People swooning over Tom Daley because of his knitting should probably consider whether they’d have a similar reaction if it was a woman athlete doing it.

I would actually leafstamp. It's always good to see people who aren't the stereotypical "granny" knitting in public. It's a wonderfully mindful craft and I think more people should take it up. They would be better for it, in my opinion.

This baby 'knows'?

MondeoFan · 07/08/2021 22:05

I saw the cardigan he made. I thought it was fab

it absolutely isn't and knitters & crocheters know this.

but sadly it's still very much a common perception by non-crafters and more annoyingly a notion that actually is being kept alive by crafters!
one day, when a man knitting/crocheting/x-stitching won't be news and won't have a reaction of fangirling we'll know that "knitting is nans" is over.

He didn't steal a baby from a woman.

He used a donor egg in a woman who made the choice to be a surrogate and deliver the baby for parents other than her to raise.

I don’t agree with creating babies with the intention of taking them away from the mum that has carried them. I don’t agree with using women in this way.
If you do, then we disagree.

Choice..lol. I wonder why rich women don’t choose to be surrogates.

Yes we disagree, and this thread is titled 'Tom Daley and his knitting' so not sure why the derail really.

Oh wow, HQ are deleting the comments about surrogacy. Biscuit for you HQ. Try to remember your user base here.

Where is your evidence for this?

Many women who don't need the money, become surrogates.

Stop trying to make out it's only poor and desperate women who are used by the RICH, as baby-making slaves (in your opinion,) to give them a baby. It's nasty and untrue.

Other people started talking about other things about him like family etc. Maybe tell them they’re only allowed to talk about his knitting. If people mention family etc then surrogacy is part of what got him that family.
Thread police alert. 🚨

They only seem to be deleting the unpleasant comments with no factual evidence in them.

Now you are policing the thread . Confused

I want to police a thread. do I need a uniform?

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2021 22:18

@SupermanWithTheGreyHair

I love his humility, bravery and love for his family too

Just a shame he used a surrogate to have a child. I don’t believe in rent a womb.

Yep

You and the other 'derailers' on here are not remotely interested in talking about Tom's 'family.'

You just want to show shade (and hate) on him for using a surrogate. That is the only agenda you(and several others have.)

Are they? That’s awful considering some of the stuff they leave up. No surprise though. I’m not going to bother arguing further then if it’ll just be deleted.

emmylousings · 07/08/2021 22:19

I don't knit, but I love how he just smashes gender norms with such ease and confidence and he's able to be so open emotionally. I'm not saying everyone has to do that, but he's cool.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 07/08/2021 22:20

thank fuck for that
