I bloody love him

He's the only Olympic athlete I've seen knitting while waiting for their turn at an event so for that reason alone it's worthy of a comment.

I knit a lot and it's always good to see other people do it in public. I wonder if he had to endure an endless stream of questions about what he's doing. I get that all the time if I'm out and about with my knitting

I love him too. teen DD & I are in awe at all of his talents (and physique !). Hope whatever he does next makes him happy , he’s very talented.

reprehensibleme · 07/08/2021 21:23

I don't think knitting is the only the domain of grannies these days. There's so much talk of mindfulness, tbh craft of every kind gives the mind space (jigsaws are another great example).

Anything that means men feel more comfortable doing traditionally 'women's crafts' can only be a good thing.

My lovely Dad and his brothers learned to knit in a bomb shelter during the war - lots of hats, scarves and socks for the navy. Kept their minds off the bombs and gave him a lifelong skill.

His knitting is incredible! He’s SO good! I love watching him dive and his interviews, he seems like such a happy, lovely, balanced guy.

SixesAndEights · 07/08/2021 21:25

I'm impressed because if I'm not alone with zero distractions all I can manage is straight garter stitch. How he does all that with everything going on around him is amazing.

As charming as he is, I can't get over his use of a surrogate to get a child. It's just not ever right to order the creation of a child and use a woman's body as the means to an end. I don't care how much or how little they paid her, it's not the point.

umm but how is a gay couple supposed to have kids if not through surrogacy? sperm plus sperm does not a baby make
SeaWitchly · 07/08/2021 21:29

I think his knitting is great but -
It's interesting how a young man gets such adoration for a craft which otherwise is derided as something 'old women do'.

His knitting is fab, I think it is becoming more fashionable with younger people.

I can crochet, I tried very simple knitting and found it difficult to keep the same tension.

We saw Robbie a few weeks ago in something Tom had knitted, it was very cute. It looked likr a hybrid of knitting and crochet, it was a knitted jumper but it had a band of crochet granny squares.

I crochet, but I do find knitting very hard. I do think that its lovely to see an olympic athlete knitting at the side of the pool.

I'm the opposite - experienced knitter, can't get my head around crochet.

Not sure why my comment was deleted, basically agreeing with PinkTonic

Isn't that the point? He's happy to knit in public despite the risk of being labelled and old woman for it. As it happens it's gone the other way. He couldn't have predicted that.

Good for him. He seems like a positive, hard working man, who has achieved an awful lot at a young age.

AngryWhompingWillow · 07/08/2021 21:51

I didn't even know he knitted, but I do like him a lot. Smile And he and his husband are adorable. Grin

@ssd Shame your thread is being derailed by the surrogate bashers though. I don't think the thread is going to go anywhere good anytime soon. People with an agenda (who clearly dislike Tom,) are trying to derail the thread with their bile.

Yes I agree with this but was finding it hard to articulate.

@TheGenealogist & @callmeadoctor

I'm pretty good at both crocheting & knitting, feel free to PM me if you need help

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 07/08/2021 21:56

The answer is not to create a child with the intention of taking them away from their bio mother. Using women in this way, hiring a womb, risking their health isn’t acceptable in my opinion.

itsgettingwierd · 07/08/2021 21:56

I also love him.

He's a very intelligent man and is very emotionally intelligent too.

He's suffered a lot of heartache in his life and he's only young.

I love how open he is and think he will do so much for the LBGT community in sport too.

I hope him and the American diver Joshua Windle can work together in this as Josh's dad is a homosexual man who adopted him as a single parent.

knittingaddict · 07/08/2021 21:58

@Muchmorethan

Why does he have...what appears to be...clingfilm around his upper arms?
New tattoos?

He has ice in it. It's to help his muscles heal.

Like an ice bath for the biceps Grin
