too good to go food waste app - anyone else use it?

Huge fan of this app - friend told me about it over lockdown and after I'd had my first "magic bag" I was hooked! The basic idea is that you pay for a lucky bag of food from a local retailer which would otherwise have gone in the bin. Picked up a bag from a M&S petrol station shop last night, cost me £4, got two large packs of salmon, two panini wraps, two packs of sandwiches, a side salad, a bag of mixed veg, and a pack of melon. Greggs also do bags which the kids enjoy - most of the bags we've had from there have a couple of the bakes, sausage rolls, cakes, pastries.

Yes it's all short-dated, yellow sticker stuff but lots can be frozen. Or eaten the next day. Definitely worth looking at if you're flexible about what you eat. Lots of restaurants do it too, although pick up times can be much later in the evening.

Any other fans???

On the strength of this thread I got a £4 mystery bag from M&S.
For the amount of stuff we got it was all good although the most expensive items were chicken and fish and we are vegan/vegetarian
They didn’t go to waste. Dcats dined on £4.75 battered chicken pieces and tuna😀

They were really happy cats.

We then picked up a Budgens £2.50 mystery bag which had loads of fruit and veg from apples, raspberries, pineapple to baby new potatoes, 3 lettuces, 2 packs of baby tomatoes, peppers, onions.
The bag was overflowing snd most of it wasn’t out of date.
Very happy so far.

We don’t get supermarkets around here - just expensive bread shops, Indian restaurants and coffee shops.

KittenKong · 04/08/2021 10:25

Oh and Karma had a massive wheel of cheese for £24 yesterday...

Lucky cats!

I've managed to reserve a Morrison's bag to collect later today! They usually sell out fast so I've been lucky.

NotMyCat · 04/08/2021 14:46

My Starbucks one has cancelled again..

Today they have slices of honey roast ham for tea.😻

I may be being a bit dense but is there any way you can get alerts when something is available on the app? Or is it just a question of keep checking?

There are quite a few places near me using the app but always showing as having sold out.

Keep Checking as far as I know.

Got another Greggs bag today...

Cheese & ham baguette
Chicken & bacon sandwich
2 x Steak bakes
2 x Fudge donuts
2 x Glazed donuts

Not bad for £2.59 👌

HoollyWugger · 04/08/2021 19:42

Today's haul - around £16 worth of food for £5 SmileSmile

Bit disappointing one from Wenzels

A guy went in before me who it was clearly his first time and they shouted at him for being in the shop about 10 minutes before time.
There are ways of speaking to people without being nasty.

Got my bag. 1 loaf of Bread, a Chicken Fajita wrap that went in the bin as we are vegetarian/vegan and 9 iced buns which also went in the bin as no one likes ice buns snd a lemon drizzle cake that will probably stay in the fridge for a few days then end up in the bin.
I won’t do bakeries again as we don’t like buns and doughnuts and don’t want to be stuck with a very expensive loaf

Problem we have is if we specify vegan then there are loads of places in London but nothing further out.
Even the ones in London closest to us are all cake related.

Well, I'm very impressed with this one from Morrisons Daily!

A meat and potato pie
A steak pie
Bag of fresh egg noodles
Bag of spring onions
Tub of mushrooms stir fry
Punnet of plums
Two jam donuts
18 individual trifles
2 tubs of chicken and bacon salad
2 snack packs of falafel and dip
4 balls of fresh mozzarella
2 packs of wild rocket
Bag of carrots

The kids will be happy with the trifles!

I’m not impressed with my Morrison daily one.

The value is actually £9.80 (I added up the pre sticker price) so not £10 although it’s only 20p.

I actually got noodles too @Boobahs. Wonder if we went to the same store haha. Yours was a lot better then mine.

Chillie chicken noodles tomorrow for tea now Grin

I need less bread products

I was shocked when he handed it all over still in a packing crate!

I've taken some steak out of the freezer so we will have steak stir fry tomorrow and DS5 and I will have the salad stuff for lunch while DS2 is at nursery.

Going to google how to freeze mozzarella!

Vanilla1Cookies · 04/08/2021 22:26

I wonder if the later you go the more stuff you get as the store is nearly closed so they add more on?

That’s lots of trifles though!

I’m a glutton for punishment though as I just ordered another one. I’m praying for no bread products!

I just like to see what I get more then wanting the actual Stuff!

Vanilla1Cookies · 04/08/2021 22:27

I hope your whole family loves trifle @Boobahs !

NotJustACigar · 05/08/2021 08:39

I've got another Dobbies booked for today. It's my birthday so they better not cancel again Grin. I watched the site like a hawk to book it and they sold out within 1 minute of being posted. They must be really good as 95% of people rate them at least 4 out of 5 stars which is the highest I've seen!

Boobahs · 05/08/2021 18:45

Picked up another bag tonight from a big Morrisons (not my local one though)

A loaf of wheat bread
A galia melon
Punnet of cherries
Punnet of gooseberries
Punnet of blueberries
2 bunches of spring onions
Punnet of nectarines
Punnet of flat mushrooms
A cucumber
A mooli
Pack of romaine lettuces
A block of mature cheddar
A block of double Gloucester with onion
A block of Wensleydale with cranberries

I’m impressed with this one too, especially all of the cheese!

M&S garage for me too today:

Veggie pizza
Bread rolls
Tortilla wraps
Egg salad
Egg sandwich
2 burgers

FizzyLizzie · 06/08/2021 08:41

I signed up after reading this thread and got my first order last night. It was M&S garage.

I got;

1 count on us raspberry dessert
2 x corn on the cob
1 pack falafels
1 pack luxury hot cross buns and
2 ultimate burgers.

I added up the full price cost and it was £14.50. I paid £4.00. I am really happy with that because we will eat all of it.

I am collecting a Costa bag tonight and will try for a Morrisons bag next.

Bythemillpond · 06/08/2021 09:05

Dd ordered a bag from Costa yesterday.

Arrived at the alloyed time and was told to go away as they were fed up with people saying they had come for a TooGoodToGo bag as Costa didn’t do them.

So from a great start it has really gone down hill.

We probably won’t bother again as neither want to pay to be shouted at.
