Where WOULD you go back to?

On the back of the other thread, which is really interesting, about places you wouldn't want to go back to, either because it was unpleasant or because you saw it all while there, I thought it would be interesting to know where people WOULD go back to.

I'll start:

New Zealand - beautiful, varied scenery around every corner. We only did parts of the South Island and I'd love to see more. Three and a half weeks were not enough!

Edinburgh - we do go back there regularly, it is a beautiful city with an amazing vibe.

Berlin - I loved it and wouldn't mind revisiting one day.

Knidos and Datca.

A little bit of my heart is there.

ForeverInADay · 23/07/2021 23:49

Angkor Wat, just amazing

Garfunkle · 23/07/2021 23:59

I’m so glad to see New Zealand and The Maldives on the “ill return to” list. Both are on my to do list for next year. Thank you! Can you recommend any trips in particular we should go on? 2 adults only - for the first time in 30 years 😊

beentoldcomputersaysno · 24/07/2021 00:29

New Zealand, Australia, Sumatra, Argentina, Maldives, Rome, Edinburgh
and ...Vegas for cheesy fun!

The Minack theatre in Cornwall. It touched my soul.

TillyTopper · 24/07/2021 06:20

Oh that's difficult! My top 3 are: the Maldives, Thailand and Japan. The first two because of swimming in the sea and weather the third because it was just so interesting. On all 3 places we didn't run out of anything to do as a family which was fantastic!

Crete and Angkor Wat.

stinkingbishop · 24/07/2021 22:02

I think about this exact question far too much! There are so many places I'd love to see again, but then there's a lot of world, and not a lot of time...

So maybe this is more about revisiting childhood places that have emotional pull, or places I went before I had family that I'd love to share with them:

Scotland - Ullapool and the Summer Isles, Mellon Udrigle, Arisaig, Colonsay, Iona, the Cheviot Hills round Yetholm

Northumberland

Iceland

Norway, far north, past the Cape

Nevis (as in St Kitts and)

Mongolia

Maine

Cheermonger · 24/07/2021 22:21

Venice - never have I been anywhere quite as beautiful
Halkidiki - wasn’t excited to go really but it’s a truly special area

MadameHomais · 25/07/2021 09:57

Has there been a “Where would you NEVER go back to thread?”.

Has there been a “Where would you NEVER go back to thread?”.
Yes, about 5 minutes ago. This thread was in response to this one - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4303150-Wheres-somewhere-youve-visited-but-wouldnt-want-to-go-back-to
intothewoodss · 25/07/2021 10:14

New York. Sadly I don't think I will get there again because of my DC's complex needs. I can't imagine him coping there and I can't imagine him coping with us leaving him to go there.

In fact that sentiment stands for pretty much every place I've loved and would want to return to: Berlin, Barcelona, Rome.

People feel trapped by COVID but don't realise that for some families that's been their life for much much longer.

VictoriaLudorum · 25/07/2021 10:29

Tobago
Kenya

Iceland, this time in winter and particularly for the new volcanoes.
Malta, because of personal history.
Watergate Bay or Sennen, happy family holidays.
The Rheinpfalz, no one knows about it.
Bernese Oberland, jawdropping beauty.

Durness and tongue

barnanabas · 25/07/2021 13:33

The 'new places' versus 'loved places' is so hard to balance. I've been to a lot of places I'd love to go back to, but places that will definitely make it on to the return visit list include:

New Zealand
Isles of Scilly
Yorkshire Dales
Lisbon
Bangkok
Italy
Brittany.

There are probably others. I'm lucky enough to go to Paris and London regularly too - both fantastic cities.

dizzydizzydizzy · 25/07/2021 21:10

Tioman (island off Malaysia). Nothing to do there except relax on the beautiful beaches, swim and eat.

Japan. Such a wonderful tourist destination- amazing culture, good hotels and restaurants and amazing public transport.

USA - well everyone loves going there! Great shopping and amazing national parks

Cotswolds - countryside to die for and chocolate box villages
