Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Naples, there was an air of doom around the City. Poverty once you wandered off the tourist area was scary.

I was not a fan of Tenerife. Hassled everytime you left the hotel either by people wanting to braid your hair or sell you some tacky tat.

CatrinVennastin · 22/07/2021 14:00

I can't stand Lyme Regis. Pretentious place.

Agree with others about Brighton.

In London I really hate The Shard and the immediate area around it. Gives me the creeps.

I have been to Sydney a couple of times as DSIL lived in Melbourne and I just thought Sydney was meh apart from the harbour bridge/opera house. Much preferred Melbourne.

CatherinedeBourgh · 22/07/2021 14:01

Monaco. After 24 hours Ikd had enough!

Uh-oh, whats wrong with Salcombe? I've never been before but booked for September now![/quote]
Massively overcrowded! It's such a pretty place but it's been ruined over the last 20 years. Too many of the cliche shops - Seasalt/White Stuff/Henri Lloyd/Joules/Fat Face, though there are some lovely independent shops.

If you're staying centrally you'll probably be ok but if you're travelling in, good luck with parking!

alexdgr8 · 22/07/2021 14:01

Bournemoth.
disappointing. was a muddy river mouth originally; feels like it.
not a patch on Eastbourne; wonderful, clean, and Beachy Head/ Birling Gap and lighthouse nearby. open-topped bus tour, hop on off.

ForeverSinging · 22/07/2021 14:01

Turkey. Budget honeymoon, thank god I went before I had kids.

blibblibs · 22/07/2021 14:01

Rome is one of my favourite places, don't expect my first trip to Blackpool next week to make it on to that list though!
Agree with the posters saying Malta, seen most of the island and its all grotty.

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 22/07/2021 14:02

@Cookiebox

Brighton ....dirty run down seaside resort but with a weird hipster vibe.

Shrewsbury ❤️😍 you never hear about to but what a lovely place. Gorgeous big parks with lots of history.

Ahhh I'm pleased you mentioned Shrewsbury - I was born there and I love it! Smile

Prague. Such a beautiful city that has been completely ruined by tourism. We were hassled constantly. Really would have loved to have seen it 20 years ago.

We went a couple of years ago, it was early March and we were there from Monday until Friday. We saw a much different city from Monday until Thursday, on Friday stag parties started to arrive and I could’ve wept. Already drunk as they arrived in the city, shouting and ‘singing’ in the streets. We’d met lovely locals during our time there and I felt so awful for them to see what they had to deal with at weekends.

I found it similar to what you describe 25 years ago.

We were constantly followed, had our bums grabbed and I got terrible food poisoning and ended up in an awful hospital

alexdgr8 · 22/07/2021 14:02

also Clacton, wouldn't bother again,
except the fish n chips opposite the pier entrance were excellent.

@KnickersOnTheLine

I must not fit the Mumsnet mould, most of the places you all hate are ones I really like! Which also gives me hope because I’m going to Bath next month and the amount of hate it’s getting here was making me worry. Mind you, I’m a very glass half full type of person, I mainly find something to appreciate and enjoy everywhere I go.
Love the Roman Baths there and did a walk round which was okay - we want to go back for another museum. Mind you I don't think Bristol is that bad and we liked living In Manchester and Sheffiled and even think Birmingham is fine.

Coventry - we used to do transport musuem, theaterand catherdral - but shopping bit was run down.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 22/07/2021 14:04

Paphos, Cyprus.

Brittany (most unfriendly place outside N.Wales).
The rather run-down market town I grew up in.

I’m not really picky, most places have enough redeeming features to keep me happy for a weekend.

Jojoanna · 22/07/2021 14:04

Bala in Wales , very pretty but people were fighting in the streets . Felt unsafe .

SirGawain · 22/07/2021 14:05

Gibraltar, it’s just a moving traffic jam, the monkeys are just nasty,(probably due to the tourists giving them food) Spain is welcome to it.

Tay1980 · 22/07/2021 14:05

@Tay1980

Bath, thought it would be beautiful but Harrogate (10 minutes up the road) is far nicer 🤷🏼‍♀️
Wow….obviously I meant 10 minutes from me 🙄
PrettyBlunt · 22/07/2021 14:06

Ipswich.

We do go there as some of my partners family are there. I just find it rather grim. No offence to anyone that lives there!

Malin52 · 22/07/2021 14:06

These threads are always hilarious. It starts with Pontins and ends up with entire continents because it rained once when they visited and a restaurant wasn't up to scratch.

Cuba - most depressing place I've ever been to and I've been to Pyongyang. At least in Pyongyang everyone was pretending to make it all work.

Bigboysmademedoit · 22/07/2021 14:07

Lloret de Mar - boggin

IVFNewbie · 22/07/2021 14:07

Sheffield.

LadyLolaRuben · 22/07/2021 14:08

Benidorm

MagicSummer · 22/07/2021 14:09

It's a shame so many people go to Florida just for the Disney experience, which is something I would never go within shouting distance of! So much of Florida is interesting and there is so much to see and do. OK. Miami is horrible, but the drive down to Key West from there is absolutely magical. Probably the most fabulous trip I've ever experienced!

CustardySergeant · 22/07/2021 14:09

@VickyEadieofThigh

Vancouver. I was utterly and completely underwhelmed.
I love Vancouver, especially Stanley Park which is incredible and Granville Island.
tiredanddangerous · 22/07/2021 14:10

It's comes down to personal taste doesn't it? I've lived in Birmingham for years and love it. Hate London though and avoid going there at all costs!

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2021 14:10

flingingmelon interesting view point, I found Cuba very different. what was it you found depressing? the ration shops? lack of produce in the shops? rice and beans meals?
