Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

@FakeTanandProsecco

Teguise, Lanzarote. Felt really drab and run down outside of the resort we stayed in.

Stirling, and Edinburgh actually as well

Agree with pp about Brighton!

Do you mean Costa Teguise? Teguise is in the centre of the island and there are no resorts there.
GotBeatenUp · 22/07/2021 14:11

Stoke-on-Trent.

Pipsquiggle · 22/07/2021 14:13

Stevenage and Milton Keynes - 'new towns' with no soul

Originalyellowbelly · 22/07/2021 14:14

Nairobi, scary place.

DinosaurDiana · 22/07/2021 14:15

London. Paris. Barcelona. Thailand.

DoubleTweenQueen · 22/07/2021 14:16

Great Yarmouth

Egypt
Pisa
Eurocamp
:D

Daisyhoney · 22/07/2021 14:17

Also Tunisia wasn't a picnic either - another place with awful food and if you left the hotel you were hassled by the locals .
Been to Turkey 3 times and always enjoyed it there.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 22/07/2021 14:17

@Monoxide totally agree with Birmingham. Ive had to work there and had a drug addict interrupting me on a phone call asking me for money. When I said no he called me a tight bitch and then followed me back to the office shouting abuse at me.
It happened several times with various beggars but nothing as bad as the time above.
I've also been followed back to my hotel when I've had to stay over for work and it feels very unsafe as a lone female walking around the centre.

TheSockMonster · 22/07/2021 14:18

Butlins

At the time it was having some sort of a marketing push to attempt to rival Center Parcs. It was nothing like Center Parcs.

vampirethriller · 22/07/2021 14:18

@dea56 I live in Sheffield, the zombie beggars are on spice. It's a big problem here. Away from the city centre is completely different.

I would go back to most places I've been but Croydon was pretty awful.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 22/07/2021 14:19

Most of the coastal resorts in N Wales...oh, and New Brighton.

Ascot Races.

The Lake District.

DinosaurDiana · 22/07/2021 14:19

Jamaica - scary place if you’re not in the hotel or tourist places.

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 14:19

@Originalyellowbelly

Nairobi, scary place.
My DH's company works world wide, they now refuse to work in Nigeria, his clients always offer to pay the exorbitant cost of bodyguards for his staff but there is still no guarantee of safety. The last person they sent there said he was scared shitless all the time despite two armed guards accompanying him literally everywhere.
ABCDEF1234 · 22/07/2021 14:20

@Rainallnight

Marrakesh - really hassly

Lisbon - got food poisoning, ended up in a hospital that was like something from the developing world, lots of hassly beggars.

Surprised to see Lisbon on this list. Went 3 years ago and loved it. Hoping to return again soon
gigi556 · 22/07/2021 14:21

Marseille - went for a day trip about 20 years ago. Don't know if it's improved since but what a dump.

waterlego · 22/07/2021 14:21

I love Vancouver, especially Stanley Park which is incredible and Granville Island

Me too @CustardySergeant. My parents lived there for three years in an apartment on the waterfront right next to Stanley Park. Loved it- felt like a very healthy city; everyone outside all the time cycling/sailing/skiing. The views of the water and the mountains were lovely and there are some really sweet little towns and villages along the coast to the north of the city. Lots of great restaurants too! We were there once during that huge firework display they have every summer. Was SO impressive!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 22/07/2021 14:21

@GotBeatenUp

Stoke-on-Trent.
DH worked there for a while.

It's grim.

A particular cottage on the Renvyle Peninsula on the west coast of Ireland. I saw recently from a Google Earth search that the cottage is still there but the surroundings have been sorely commercialised.

That is one reason I would never return - the contrast with my memories of an idyllic solitude and friendly locals would be too great.

I'm old and my visit was nearly sixty years ago. But the other reason is the existence of some entity in the small back bedroom who turned to me as I opened the door, rose from the edge of the bed where it had been sitting, and moved towards me. I've never been so scared in my life. I never opened that door again and somehow knew I would be safe.

Once home again, I told the person who had loaned me the cottage and they said 'we didn't tell you before you went because not everyone can sense it'.

I've posted about this on MN before in more detail and under another name, but several years ago.

Cam77 · 22/07/2021 14:22

Barcelona. It was quite nice to look at, but nothing special, and they clearly don't like tourists very much. Probably my least favourite place in Spain.

I think dump is a fair word, having been about 3 years ago! Although ds loved it Confused

@IseeScottishhills

Nairobi is in Kenya

00100001 · 22/07/2021 14:24

@Soubriquet

Those saying Las Vegas and New Orleans can you say why.

They are two places I would love to visit. I know everyone’s opinions would be different but it would be interesting to know why you wouldn’t go back

For me, it was a great spectacle and good fun.

Just no desire to go again. I feel like I got what I want from the place and can't offer anything new / worth repeating :)

Thats just reminded me years ago we stayed in Thornfield Hall (Jane Eyre) its beautiful but the ghost of a women in the attic really unnerved us, we wouldn't go back.
brokenbiscuitsx · 22/07/2021 14:24

Bristol.

Never been hassled so much by so many beggars (for money) Even sat outside in a restaurant, one became really aggressive too. Not even had that in London or New York. It was sold to me as a ‘vibey’ ‘funky’ place but unless you see beggars harassing you as vibey then I’m really confused!

kikipie · 22/07/2021 14:25

New Orleans felt very unsafe, we drove through the worst type of ghetto to get to it. The hotels were very strict about what door/street to enter and exit onto, we were supposed to stay overnight but cancelled and moved on
