Do you keep your windows open at night?

I’ve never dared do this due to security concerns… but I am so hot tonight I am considering taking the risk. Anyone else? Am I silly to worry?

I live in a bungalow and have the bedroom windows open throughout the year.

Yes I did until I got dickhead neighbours, who think regular bonfires and blasting music whilst in their hot tub until gone midnight moved in late last year. I am actually hoping for lots of rain this year Sad

I keep mine open, I have mesh screens to prevent bugs from coming in, if I didn't have them I wouldn't. A burglar would have to be stealthier than spiderman to avoid waking my dog 😂

All upstairs windows wide open all night. The only issue we have is my cat can get in and out of our bedroom so he sometimes brings us gifts

TiddleTaddleTat · 20/07/2021 11:13

No because DH is woken by noise and won't wear earplugs (which I do).
We've compromised and got a fan that circulates air at night.
I'd prefer windows open though.

We leave the Velux window vents open upstairs, and have screens on two other windows so we can leave them open without bugs getting in. Cheap and effective, bought a kit online and made the screens. Have one on the kitchen window too so it can be opened wide while cooking.

Absolutely. I live in a bungalow and have the windows open all the time.

There is a brilliant fixture called a locklatch you can fit to any window or door, any material or type of opening. It secures the window or door to a set distance with a tungsten steel bar, smaller opening for air, larger for pets to come in and out. They are about £55 from Locklatch.UK. I've one on my livingroom window just wide enough for the cats to come and go and one on the bedroom wide enough for air. They are fabulous and I highly recommend

Upstairs bedrooms all day and night. Bought some mesh to prevent creepy crawlies coming in which is holding up well.

Those who leave their windows open all year round.. do you not care about your heating bills or global warming?

You should always make sure your house is ventilated as well as heated.

caringcarer · 20/07/2021 15:41

Yes, too hot to sleep otherwise. Only about 2 inches with security catch though. I'd love to open it really wide but would be as bit scared.

Divineswirls · 20/07/2021 15:45

I always keep my bedroom window open year round unless someone's having a party down the road.

At the moment in this heat I'm only opening windows and doors that don't directly facing the sun as the windows facing the sun make the room warmer when I open them. So the curtains are closed on those ones.

Divineswirls · 20/07/2021 15:48

I would never have a window open at the front downstairs that's low enough for someone to climb through. Although my back doors are open I'm a bit concerned that animals can get in.
